In my searching for how to make this work i keep seeing people saying they have it working with their Mendel, but I can't find anything that tells me how to make it work. I can't figure out why it won't connect to the printer. Also, I can't get the version of skeinforge that it comes with to use E codes. Is there a way to make it use them, or is there a way to upgrade the version of skeinforge itby Azdle - General
The issue with jpg and png it that they're pixel based, the issue with pdf is that it's a typesetting and lyout format. So, they are not a suitable format for this use. However I see on reason not to use svg. Its an open standard, it's supported by all modern browsers and image editors and whatnot. That's what I am using for distribtung my midified mounting plate design on thingiverse for the tecby Azdle - General
It's going really well, aside from a communications problem. I'm really starting to get it tuned in: Where in the cities are you? I'm in Shoreview. How far along are you?by Azdle - Minnesota Twin Cities RepRap User Group

I use a start.gcode as well, but skeinforge puts it own start codes in too. Is there a way to make it not do that? I can't find the setting.by Azdle - Reprappers
So, what do you use for G-Code generation? Since this forum software doesn't seem to do polls, we'll do it the old fashioned way. If your option doesn't exist, add it! Add one to your selection and bold it: [0] RepRap Host [0] RepSnapper [1] Skeinforge [0] Custom Program that I Don't Distribute I use skeinforge to generate the actual movements then manually edit the g-code files for the initiaby Azdle - Reprappers
Otherwise, I used a bit of kapton tape it's working just fine.by Azdle - General Mendel Topics
As long as you can bend it and it'll keep it's shape it will work fine. I'm still trying to think of something more ridgid, every one in a while you'll accidently bend it the wrong way and it'll crash. If you're careful and keep an eye on it while it's printing it'll be fine. Either one should work. It looks like the dxf one just has an extra mounting point so it won't twist arround on the bolt.by Azdle - General Mendel Topics
wait, are you saying that you think the makerbot is violating the GPL? You do know that the makerbot plans are availible under the GPL as well, right? The whole point of the GPL is that you are free to distribute and modify it.by Azdle - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Is the board getting power? Remeber, the cable gets put on opposite the way it does on the motherboard. Are you pressing the reset button after you click upload? That's the error you get when your timing is off.by Azdle - General
I see the last post here was in Feb, by me... so is anyone around here working on a reprap/strap? I'm currently to the point of being able to say 'I have built a 3D printer', as opposed to 'I am building a 3D printer'. It's not finished by any means, I still have yet to print a part that I would call good quality, but it's getting there.by Azdle - Minnesota Twin Cities RepRap User Group
Depends on your priorities, speed or price? The least expensive that I know about is batch pcb, but I can take up to a month(worst case). I've heard good thing, but I havn't used them myself. Being a poor college student I don't know about the faster ones.by Azdle - General

It compiled just fine for me on Ubuntu 10.04 after changing the one line that it mentions in the wiki. I was actually shocked at how fast the G-Code was generated. It was practically instant on the smaller parts I was playing with. However, it was giving me strange issues with the G-Codes that it made. It seemed to retract the extruder after every time it extruded, so no plastic ever came out. Sby Azdle - RepSnapper

That picture is missing one thing. You need another wire going from the i2c on the MB to pins D9 and D10 on the extruder controller. Assuming that you're using a stepper for the extruder.by Azdle - Controllers
Can someone post up the G-Code for a simple object for the current (five-d?) firmware. I want to try sending a few other commands along with it, but I can't get the software to save to a file. Nevermind, I am just sending codes manually. Or is there a way to manually send G-Codes?Nevermind, figured out how to do this. I'm using a program called GTKTerm. This is what I've figured out so far: The 90-degree 6pin connectors are the serial interface to the computer. The extruder controller's is only used to program it, the motherboard is also used to send printing commands. The three 10Pin connectors on the MB go to the steppers controllers. One of the four RS485 sets (A and B ) go the the extruder's A and B (A to A and B to B ) The I2C lines go toby Azdle - Controllers
I've solved the problem, it ended up being a bad RS485 serial chip. Replaced that and it talks just fine. Now I just need to figure out why the thermocouple isn't reporting to the real firmware.by Azdle - Controllers
I've been battling with this for over a week now. No matter what I've done, I can't get the Extruder Controller Board to talk to the Motherboard. Note: I'm using the tech zone remix boards There are a few things that I'm not sure of: Do I need the i2c line for simple serial communication? Has anyone that is using these boards redesigned the motherboard-plate and the stepper-plate dxf files that the boards get mounted to? EDIT: I realise that the existing ones would fit, but I'd like one that is more space efficient since these are smaller.by Azdle - For Sale
I've got little rubber feet that I was planning on putting on if I couldn't fix it, just wanted to make sure that there wasn't a bigger problem. I had the problem with the z-pulleys at first too, but I just removed one of the washers and it had just enough clearance. If I'm putting feet on it anyway, I guess I may as well put them back.by Azdle - General Mendel Topics
The Mendel that I'm building wobbles because the Y-Axis brackets are the lowest points. (Lower than the vertexes) What could cause this? I'll post a better picture when I get a chance, but you can kinda see how I have it in some of the pictures I already posted here. EDIT: Photo 1 Photo 2by Azdle - General Mendel Topics
I agree that it wouldn't work for all applications (like a sphere), but for something like a rounded corner of a chamfer greater than 45 degrees from verticle on the bottom edge of an object, it would just end up being a 45 degree chamfer until it meets the edge of the object again. If I'm thinking correctly, I can't find any scenario where this would cause any harm. The only time that this wouldby Azdle - General
Right, but wouldn't it be possible to, when it's figuring out it's paths, check if it's past the edge of the layer below by more than half the width of the extrusion and if it is stop it at that distance. Then it wouldn't matter if it a hole at all and you wouldn't nee to worry about designing all your holes funky. You would have to check to make sure it's not going to cut something off completelby Azdle - General
When I design an object, do I need to make the teardrop shape for my holes, or will the RepRap software or skeinforge take care of this for me. I've been playing around in skeinforge and I can't seem to fin a way to do this.by Azdle - General
