I'm putting this post here, as I don't see a specific "support material" section. About 80% of the chatter here should go in: http://reprap.org/pipermail/reprap-dev/ our official friendly-but-technical mailing list for all you officially frendly-but-technical people out there. (You have to join, Nether10, it's compulsory. ) The other 20% should go into mediawiki talk pages. (We should neveby SebastienBailard - Paste Extrusion Working Group
Dunno if the nichrome will melt at the bronze's pour temperature, but ... all that metal surrounding that resistive wire is going to short out the wire. The electrons will just go winging out into the bulk of the metal, rather than through the nichrome. Another option might be to make a hole in my part big enough to insert a resistor later, a-la nophead. This sounds like it will work. Don'by SebastienBailard - General

Yay! I'll have to come out for one of those (from Ottawa), but not till it warms up. Rob, you should use the blog (and back link to here). I'll blog my journey here: and post questions on occasion if people don't mind yet more 'beginners' questions! That's what we're here for. Only two criticisms: At this stage, it's probably more a RepStrap than a RepRap since I'm using wooden joints. Yay! richrap, Think of it this way: if you take Clive up on his kind offer and do up a nice reprap review article for the journal, his readers will all dogpile our website, buy or borrow a set of parts, join reprap-dev, http://reprap.org/pipermail/reprap-dev/ and start stuffing files and other documentation into our wiki. richrap, Clive isn't actually selling stuff here. He's the editor of an academic journal, and he dropped in to ask you (and everyone else) if you'd care to submit your work to the journal for publication. (pst: go for it, it will be fun, and it will help your cv!)by SebastienBailard - General

You can also search for Custom Machined Metal Mendel, a user by the name of swighton built a very nice Metal Mendel and made a number of drawings for it that you can also find on the web, he built based on the original which would cost you more. Yup: http://reprap.org/wiki/Metal_Mendel Mind you, the important thing about Metal Mendel is that, like Wooden Mendel, it's a little bit silly. Mendelby SebastienBailard - General Mendel Topics
We've got 2-3 flavors of parameterized Mendel kicking around, but I do not think someone's actually set the parameter size dial to "big" and printed one. I was a bit surprised too not to have any comments about the parts needing to be modified. That does not seem to be a problem to the manufacturers, but I'll need to get the samples to be sure there's no mistake ... The evident problem with this project I see is of course : if this is feasible, why has nobody done it yet, and why is everybody selling the plastic parts for 200+ $ ? I'm wondering if I buy from the US ( for example, ultimachine or makerbot), do I have to pay custom fees on top of shipping? I bought from ultimachine. Shipped to Ottawa, I did have to pay GST and PST on it. (e.g. customs.) I avoided UPS ground, which charges a secondary 'processing' fee. Dunno about the local-vancouver stuff.
