QuoteFirst, it seems to home the X axis wherever it happens to be, so that seems to be an issue. If I either send the command or use the web interface the extruder head will move slightly to the right and be at 'home'. Per David's suggestion, I'll be checking the proximity sensor out when I get back to it. If anyone has any other ideas, the info would be great. Hi brlowe, That's a lot of vague questions, so I'll try to answer or clarify some of them if I can, as dc42 has assisted me recently. Quotebrlowe Where are the most current hookup and setup instructions? For what exactly? I am assuming the Ormerod 2 since you have later questions regarding various components. Disclaimer: I would rate myself just above "Novice" level If you're printing 528.5 parts and it's single extruder, then I'd be tempted to say "build as is". From what I can see, the 528.5 x-carriage with the MR93ZZ bearing that runs on the underside of the x-axis plate, rather than on the back of it reduces the amount of flex of the x-axis-plate. Quoterichokarl You can connect the ormerod to your wireless using a nano router. I agree, much simpler and you use the Duet web interface without adding an extra point of failure in the form of the Pi (as much as I like them and Octoprint) I've used a TP-Link TL-WR802N in client mode. Cheap and maybe a little slow compared to Ethernet, but worked perfectly well.by cheeseandham - Ormerod
So the DuetWifi was faulty. Replaced (Thanks Duet3D!) and it immediately fixed the problem. Installed the aluminium bed. Wiring has been made good and is in braided sheaths. I've just ordered a differential modulated IR height sensor from Duet3D. Received some Printbite over the weekend, tested on the original Ormerod 2 and initial results look promising. Today I was demonstrating to a friend and he pointed out that to him, it looked like it might be heat related, as it works from a "cold" state (not been switched on recently) but doesn't work after it's been on a while. We then did further tests by pointing a big household fan at the board when switching it on from cold. Many (unscientific) repeats seem to show that it works a lot longer when a fby cheeseandham - Duet
The Duet forum is not accepting any more registrations, so I can't ask there but I'm having exactly this issue on the X-axis It's weirdly intermittent, as occasionally it drives correctly, as the previous poster says. Although I find it doesn't last and will change to this weird crunching after some time. The Duet forum is not accepting any more registrations, but I'm having exactly this issue on the X-axis Changed the loom and changed the NEMA17 motor (tested against my working Ormerod X-axis and the Y-axis on this one), and it's not those causing the problem, so it looks like the DuetWifi is driving the issue. Quotetrevmas If you want to max out the improvements, have you thought about a direct drive Z-Axis? I was never happy with the original threaded rod so moved to direct drive lead screw. I found it well worth the small outlay. I've certainly thought about it, but I haven't really suffered from Z-axis wobble, so these thoughts went in the "ain't broke, don't fix it" pile Quotetrevmas I also driby cheeseandham - Ormerod

Eric, all I know is that it is the Backlash Z Nut by sooyewguan - and the the nuts are fitted in the part as shown, I'm not sure what you mean by "mechanically secured" in this context though, other than "it's fitted in there and can't move", but that is no doubt due to my ignorance. Thanks dc42. Yes, that was a private area "whoops". Fixed now. Printed a Duet enclosure last night, just need to wire up and commission, but I'm betting X-mas is going to try and get in the way (along with businesses, wife and kids!)by cheeseandham - Ormerod
Machine almost rebuilt. It's taken me a year I see! Time does fly! I have a shiny Duet Wifi delivered today and a nicely built dual extruder (just got the Y-Axis Aluminium Print Bed Support 2 days ago too, I don't think I need it, but I figured I'd be nice to myself for Christmas! Not sure if I'll fit it on this just yet...) In the end it had everything I needed bar some minor screws &by cheeseandham - Ormerod
Any further update sinnedwrong? I've been watching your post with interest , so I'll post about where I am in the hope it'll spur you on to do so I'm making my second Ormerod 2 at the moment as way of upgrading my existing one without dismantling my fairly original 528.4 work-horse (although I changed the extruder on the original last night as it's a simple update as I've been getting itchy toby cheeseandham - Ormerod
Yes, I'd get a Duet Wifi I didn't realise it would be quieter. Isn't most of the noise generated by the steppers? The Prusa i3 is a Sunhokey 2015. It's taken work to get it calibrated to the point where I'm getting half decent prints out of it, and there is more to go. After a couple of commissioning issues, my Ormerod 2 has been a good, stable workhorse in the time I've had it. To the point tby cheeseandham - Ormerod
So back in March, after the demise of RepRapPro, I was looking for parts from across the Internet to make for a dual extruder for my my Ormerod 2 528.4. I made a spreadsheet detailing where the parts could be sourced, and the price came out at £70 - without delivery from multiple places. My background is computer networking and I'd done many tests. There were no Ethernet LED's lighting up when the Duet was connected on any device (switches, routers or PC's) with any of the many cables I own. I could also see there was no traffic on the static IP I'd assigned (or DHCP lease when I put it on DHCP) so this was the one part of all this that I was fairly confident with my "faulty" diby cheeseandham - Ormerod

Hey Darathy, Thanks again. Yeah, I also should have mentioned that I followed the documention and was very careful about solder touching (checking and clipping off ends) as well as putting Kapton on the bottom of the shield. Darathy, firstly I appreciate the input! Not sure what you mean about the heating bed, because of this (perhaps badly worded, sentence) "I have disassembled , removing all wires except the PSU to 5V regulator connection) ,and checked the duet solder is not touching the case (and there is kapton on the metal base there as instructed) and I still get the same reading."
