Recycle symbols

Here is a question, should we be printing, or embedding a recycle symbol with the plastic type number or type in it when we start a print?

Cause with all the plastic around, and a recycle method to use old plastic, its better to have the plastic recycled at a plant than just biffed into a landfill.

Eg

Excelent sugestion.. this should be built in to every print there is a note in this forum and on the main blog regarding the diffrent numbers to go in the symbol.

* 1 - Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)
* 2 - High-density polyethylene (HDPE)
* 3 - Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
* 4 - Low-density polyethylene (LDPE)
* 5 - Polypropylene (PP)
* 6 - Polystyrene (PS)
* 7 - Other resins, like acrylonitrile butadine styrene (ABS)

thats a good idea, though i think some sort of stamp might be better, more readable at least.

We might want a special mark for PLA to indicate that it should be composted..?

I just created [[Plastic_Symbols]] up on the wiki
[objects.reprap.org]
for folk who want to upload images of these parts.

Regarding PLA and other compostables, perhaps a sprout growing out of a RepRap symbol or the recycling triangle?

Although if we're composting PLA, that means we need to do more work on [[Recycler]].

i don't know if i am right about this or not but has far has i know even PLA need very warm temperatures to properly decompose so it will not decompose very well in your average back yard composter.

Don´t forget to add the QA-barcode with the URL for thingiverse
for the object you printed right next to it.
(While you´re at it anyway.)

Your post promted me to do a quick google on composting PLA, and most links I found claimed that PLA was completely compostable, as long as the compostheap did contain less than 10% PLA.

e.g.
[agproducts.unl.edu]
[www.biobadge.com]

I did find one, claiming otherwise, but that site appears to be somewhat biased [www.plasticredesignproject.org]

I haven't done any testing on my own, so the usual precautions about information taken from the Internet should be applied.

Edit: modified the word "more" to "less", in "did contain less than"

good point i had to do some refreshing too, what i found was they say it is best in the warmer temperatures in a compost bin so i was not all that right, i wonder if i was not thinking about another plastic maybe. but thats good, so long has your compost bin is good and warm it will turn into water and co2

good news for us then
