Wow that's a really neat low-tech solution to the problem, thank you for sharing that's very creative! and a lot less expensive I'm sure! Just to let you know the FFC cable is still doing really well, I've been printing with it for many hours now so I think this is a good option for anyone wanting to go the non-reprap-philosophy route.by andy-net - General
Well its rare that you get to say this in the reprap world, but my plan worked flawlessly I was worried that the cable might get hot but not at all, and its printing just as good as ever. The cable took a long time to arrive (they sent me three incorrect ones!!!) but other than that - I'm very happy. So my bill of materials was simply: 1 x 2 x The machine looks a lot tidier on top aby andy-net - General
well as always happens with me, curiosity has the better of me, I've ordered a cable and a couple of end points I'll post some pictures when I have something useful to report back.by andy-net - General
Hey so I thought a nice easy / neat way to do the extruder / x carriage cables on non-delta bots might be to do something like this, maybe spread the heater over multiple pins for safety but I thought it would be tidy and stand up to a lot of punishment (its supposed to be flexible!) has anyone tried this? I see a lot of IDE type cables used on the Mendel90 and I like that but I thought this wouby andy-net - General
Is it expected behaviour that the Z end stop gets hit on the last test point? This is how the log looks ... just wondering if that is correct? Quotebrnrd Seems like a lot of money to waste on an extruder. There are a lot of printable designs that work realiable for much less money. An all-metal extruder is not really worth it. The most trouble-prone part of a 3D printer is the hot end, not cold end. And this design still uses a j-head. So technically speaking, it's not really all metal. I think that's a very personal opinion. We all haby andy-net - General
I'm gonna be fitting the Israel extruder tomorrow so will report back soon as I have chance for a reviewby andy-net - General
Well, the extruder arrived today, very well packaged and the finish is just outstanding. This is a very professional product, and someone has obviously taken a lot of care in its design, I am very happy so far. Just wanted to get you all some pictures over. I hope it extrudes as well as it looks! I will try and get it fitted this week and get a review over. I just hope the stepper is up to the cby andy-net - General
I think its pretty easy to see that the first QU-BD extruders are seen in a negative light. Of course it will be down to me one way or another, these are hobby items, meant to be used in an environment with a million different configurations, but I used the given thermistor tables with the standard thermistor and some makerbot filament so I don't think I was too unfair to it. Either way, the newby andy-net - General
Well I tried the qu-bd extruder and I can't say I was impressed. First time I used it the plastic burned in the nozzle, and it clogged, when I tried to clean the nozzle it disintegrated and the end turned into a 1.7mm hole. I'm not importing a new nozzle as the postage is extortion so I now have an expensive paperweight. I used the right thermistor tables etc so I can't see the temperature beingby andy-net - General
I have a qu-bd extruder I'm gonna throw on tomorrow, but I've ordered one out of curiosity. I just wanna make the thing more reliable and things like this seem the ticket. Will throw a j-head under it and write up a review when it gets here, could be a while though - I'm in the uk and its coming from Israel.by andy-net - General
So I am quite tempted by the all metal extruders sold on eBay from Israel. They look pretty solid, and the extruder really is where the magic happens so I am trying to work out if it is worth the investment. So before I go and spend my money, I wonder if anyone else had seen them, and what kind of a reception they are getting. They seem to have a good design, and my wades is really showing its aby andy-net - General
Is the filament slipping? when the Z lifts, maybe since the filament isn't flowing, something gets too cold/hot in the nozzle and starts to stick. Do you use a fan on the nozzle? are you sure the temperature is right? Set the nozzle to temp then move all the way up and down and see if the temperature changes. Maybe the current draw is taking something from the nozzle. When I have flow problemby andy-net - General
Ok, so I registered a domain, and got a concept graphic up. It links back here so people can register their interest. If I get enough of a push and some good suggestions for common problems I'll turn the concept into a real page. I think this has good potential for the 3D printing community, and would hopefully cut down the amount of repetition in the forums for the basic problems people haveby andy-net - General
I started this In asp.net c#, but then I got so put off by all the red tape around picture licensing etc. I thought maybe when I had time I would make some exaggerated cad models and use those. I sorta realised im doomed to make someone unhappy with this so was it worth it? Maybe it is, I don't know?by andy-net - General
Just search for servo in the forums. I put up code and guide for using four servos with ramps.it was the thread about an automatic bed leveller. Had a YouTube video and everything ... Go madby andy-net - Developers
How about a coupla thermal fuses. I saw a blog where someone used one to control the bed temp, you'd just be using it to cut the temp if it goes into meltdown. Maybe a wiki page on safety measures would be good. If these are going to be household items, it'd be a positive step.by andy-net - General Mendel Topics
Sounds fun. If I can, I'll pop accross! it's only 30 miles away. would be nice to chat to someone who doesnt think these things are "just magic"by andy-net - General
Just saw this and thought of this post. I'm in hertfordshire, but my mendel is having issues and my Orca blew its HPB resistors to pieces so I'm not much help!by andy-net - Reprappers
So first I copied the contents of Servo.h and Servo.cpp from arduino-0023\libraries\Servo into new tabs in Marlin called MarlinServo.h and MarlinServo.cpp. Then I commented out the following lines: L100 #ifndef WIRING // Wiring pre-defines signal handlers so don't define any if compiling for the Wiring platform // Interrupt handlers for Arduino // #if defined(_useTimer1) // SIGNAL (TIMER1_COMby andy-net - General
Ok, so I realise this isn't for everybody, but I'm throwing this up in case anyone is interested. This started as a wild idea I had on Buback's thread (help brainstorm a better bed leveling adjustment mechanisim). The basic idea being that if you had 4 servos (one for Nopheads Genius Z Probe and three continuous servo's for levelling, you should in theory be able to automatically adjust the leveby andy-net - General
I'm possibly going to move this idea to another thread because I'm conscious of the fact that I'm probably hijacking this a little. I know there's a limited audience for the automatic leveller idea, and there's some great mechanical ideas here, but thought I'd share some progress on it. There's a video below of where I'm at. I got 4 servo's hooked up to Ramps 1.4. There's one 180degree servo forby andy-net - General Mendel Topics
Well I made some progress on this. The servos arrived this morning, took them a while. I made a start on the code as below, but it seems I the servo and stepper libraries cant co-exist out of the box. I get the error "multiple definitions of __vector_17", which I reckon is down to the fact that both libraries have a deffinition for TIMER1_COMPA_vect. Since I've only been coding on arduino for tby andy-net - General Mendel Topics
Just preordered a couple can't wait to have a play!by andy-net - Reprappers
Well I've ordered 3 x Continuous Rotation servos so I can play around with it. As you say Buback, if you could only adjust the bed from the host software that would be an advantage over where we are now. I know these might add weight etc etc etc but until someone tries it we don't know for sure. My plan is to plug these into the ramps and see if I can get each of them moving from GCODE commands,by andy-net - General Mendel Topics
I did think about using two points but I decided that adjusting Z in pronterface with a button and reliable adjustment resolution would be easier for people rather than adjusting the mechanics. The only requirement would be ensuring the z probe matches the hot end. I looked at distance sensors as another avenue of enquiry. I looked at ultrasonic, ir and laser distance sensors but the cheap onesby andy-net - General Mendel Topics
I agree with what you guys are saying, but I'm sure there's a lot of people out there on the fence reading about the constant woes people have with keeping the bed level, keeping things calibrated, making sure temperatures are right and mosfets aren’t too warm etc who simply won't jump in until things are easy enough for them to give it a shot. We all find our own techniques and workarounds, andby andy-net - General Mendel Topics
This is extremely exciting. Very well done. At the moment there's always a compromise. If this goes mainstream it should level the playing field and let everyone have the opportunity to work with all the addons they choose to without having to find the limitations in their board and upgrade. You can put me down for a couple of preorders!! Only thing I can think of is perhaps a pc fan header so pby andy-net - Reprappers
Doesn't RAMPS have 4 x Servo headers. So thats 1 for Nopheads Genius ZProbe and 3 x 9g Servos? Whole cost £10 / $15? A quick 4 corner probe and a 3 point servo adjust before you print and off we go. You could have a pre-leveling routine with the z probe hooked up in parallel to the z stop if you wanted so people could bolt it on as a complete kit without touching any of their existing stuff. Theby andy-net - General Mendel Topics
Lol go on, how do you know, did you have an impromptu fireworks display too? Thanks for the advice guys. I'm gonna replace the cheap stuff and keep this as a spare if I can get it going. I'm much more sold on the ramps these daysby andy-net - Sanguino(lolu)
