Since the probe is stopping early and wont move right down then mostly likely you need to issue a G92 Z10. That tricks the controller into thinking the z-min endstop is 10mm lower, or at least below the bed. Must admit I used the Sanderer videos myself. Very nice productions.by friarfish - Firmware - Marlin
Wouldn't there also be a torque vs speed compromise? 16t pulley have high(ish) torque vs low(ish) speed 20t pulley have high(ish) speed vs low(ish) torque?by friarfish - Mechanics
Actually Srek, how did you thread the ptfe? or did your hotend have a smaller ID than 4mm so you could cut a m4 thread?by friarfish - Mechanics
Mmm, thanks folks. Srek, how do you ream/bore the ptfe when the hotend is on? 2mm piece of wire? Maybe I'll splash out and get a e3d lite. Thanks again.by friarfish - Mechanics
Hi all, hope I've got the right group. Does PTFE tubing swell with age/temp? Wondering as I was able to cold pull the nozzles 9 months ago but now it jams all the time. Oh, I've got PTFE going all the way to the nozzle. Home made hotend.by friarfish - Mechanics
Hi folks, tried everything but nothing helped. Appreciate the help. Andrewby friarfish - Printing
Okay, an updated photo that worked. I've reprinted the file twice and the same smooth/rough parts occur. Changed slic3r from 0.5mm for all thicknesses to auto. Trying the calibration cube with over thick walls should be an interesting test.by friarfish - Printing
Actually MCCarmen, I have to disagree about the z axis not moving. I use an inductive bed sensor, so the z axis/ nozzle height is constantly changing whilst printing. So I can't rule this cause out. The extruder, Bulldog Lite, what a rip off, likewise has just be readjusted when I redid the hotend. It should be dialed it just right for PETG. My filament, Torwell3d, is actually remarkably consistby friarfish - Printing
It shouldn't be a dirty nozzle. Only just a week or so ago pulled it to pieces and cleaned it. The weird thing is, as o-lampe, noticed is the flat strips are symmetrical over the top. If the nozzle can go from one side of the print to other, i get a smooth strip. But if the nozzle is interrupted by, say a bolt hole, i get what appears to be over extrusion. My settings. Slic3r with default widthby friarfish - Printing
Hi folks, been trying to print some brackets for v-slot and the beast is exhibiting some strange behaviour. The top surface appears be being over and under extruding in strips. Well either that or the nozzle is oscillating between two different heights. I've attached a photo but taking a picture of a black object is a bit of a bugger. Any suggestions? I found Thomas Sanladerer's videos on youtube VERY helpful setting up auto tramming. But he shows how to do it through firmware/host softwareby friarfish - Firmware - Marlin
Just dig out your multimeter and run a continuity test over the thermistor. More likely you have a bad joint in the pin header connector. But min temp error typically means an open circuit on the thermistor. Oh, you might want to turn on HEATER_BED_DUTY_CYCLE_DIVIDER. Just to reduce the current draw on the psu.by friarfish - Firmware - Marlin
Can i adjust the bed fan pwm frequency in the firmware? I've looked through config and config_adv but nothing obvious is leaping from the screen. Unfortunately my bed fan won't run at less than 90% and i'm assuming that adjusting the freq will fix itby friarfish - Firmware - Marlin
Cozmiray, What! Are you saying the prusa isn't a revolutionary self replicating printer that is going to end up in every home with people able to print their own meals? Well that's what the advertising says. :p Had a read and look at the aluminatus. Umm, i think the politest thing i can say is expensive. I will have say that it is a real balancing act deciding belts or lead screws. Cost v simplby friarfish - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
Oh, I was thinking of lead screws as i'm a bit tired of the pain in the butt belts on the prusa. Paying a bit to avoid bed slips seems fair.by friarfish - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
Hi folks, just starting to plan the next machine but I'm thinking of using lead screws instead of belts this time. What I'm wondering is is it possible to calculate the max speed based on weight moved, torque of the stepper etc? Many thanks.by friarfish - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
Hi folks, just wondering how to edit my original posts subject. I've had some threads/problems solved but can't think how to edit the original subject to show this. Andrewby friarfish - General
Appears my filament had gone hard. Swapped for a fresh spool which was noticeably more flexible. Slic3r was trying to print 1mm walls which maybe the problem obvious. Probably too high a temp in the filament dryer. You'd think ~60c would be safeby friarfish - Printing
Been using PETG now for almost 12 months and I still haven't cracked the problem of getting supports/interfaces to remove neatly. I've tried both Slic3r and Kisslicer. Has anyone out there had success getting PETG to separate easily or is this one of the issues with PETG?by friarfish - Printing
That second picture looks to me characteristic of filament being left behind in the hotend when you pulled the white filament out. Google "how to cold pull a nozzle". Works a charm with PLA and is the easiest way to clean a nozzle. Can you get the host software to feed filament when the hotend is away from the bed?by friarfish - Printing
hi folks, I have an issue with the PETG I'm currently using. Supports etc are being printed without issue but when the main model is being printed the extruder starts skipping. As soon as supports start being printed again, no skipping. I've played with temp/speed and seen no joy. Oh, I'm slicing with Slic3r with max speed 40mm/s and everything else on auto. Any ideas? Andrewby friarfish - Printing
Appreciate the help everyone. I think I might have to give up on kisslicer and slic3r and buy simplify3d. I've stepped the z spacing in kisslicer from 0.2mm to 1.2mm and seen no difference. I've changed the extrusion factor for the support down to 0.4. No difference but it seems to affect the extrusion factor for the main model. Very frustrating. If I could get the supports to work I'd be usingby friarfish - Printing
Umm, Thanks for that. I had been wondering if it is a slicer issue. Do you use a bed fan?by friarfish - Printing
Hi folks, It's been ages since i've played with my Ramps, so i've pretty much forgotten everything. M106/m107. Does that control the output on the D9/mosfet? Can m106/m107 be changed to control a different pwm output? I already have a firmware controlled hotend fan there. Andrewby friarfish - RAMPS Electronics
Hi folks, I've been using petg for a while now and love it. But i still haven't been aable to generate supports in either slic3r or kisslicer that seperate as easily as abs or pla. Usually it is the top horizontal or near horizontal surfaces that are glued to the model. Has anyone come up with settings for slic3r or kisslicer that lets petg supports come away easily? Many thanks, Andrewby friarfish - Printing
Thanks folks, I wasn't quite sure. The expensive "professional " lead and ball screws with very substantial price had me wondering if it was just an issue of price vs quality. The use of a backlash mechanism or just letting gravity keep the nut flush are probably what i'll do. Thanks again.by friarfish - Mechanics
Hi folks, a while ago I purchased some 8mm lead screws off of ebay. Just gotten around to playing with them today. However there is noticeable wobble by the brass nut along the length of the screw as well as angular wobble around the shaft. Is this normal for lead screws or, as I suspect, just another example of c**p chinese products on ebay? Andrewby friarfish - Mechanics

Hi folks, does anyone know if it is possible to display, say on my glcd, the actual rate of extrusion at any time? Maybe a simple graph against time. I'm just wondering if I could watch, say a speedo, as a model prints to see how fast the extruder is going. It might make working out max print speeds a bit easier. Not much point slicing a print at 100mm/s when the complexity of means you can't goby friarfish - Firmware - Marlin
