I don't have any experience with the medal Max though I have seen them running with great results. The beta 2.0 version looks like they are moving in the right direction. It seems to be a solid design and I'm sure it will have a great following. Those are my opinions, I think you would be in good shape buying one of these . The previous version is a proven design and they are improving upon it soby REPRAP SQUAD - Reprappers
New RODS and anti-backlash I have finished some more additions including 5/16ths threaded rods, 4 long nuts instead of the standard size ones and 2 springs that are mounted in between the two sets of long nuts. The reason I didn't use the standard size nuts is the fact that they have little surface space on the rods which promotes backlash. I also added the print in between the sets to keep constby REPRAP SQUAD - Developers

I've tried an aquarium air pump, it was a fairly nice on too. It didn't put out enough air pressure, so if you do go that route make sure you get a fairly good sized one. I'm not sure what they rating is on mine but it was fairly expensive for an aquarium air pump. They are not made to put out much pressure cause it doesn't take much to oxygenate water. Just FYI.by REPRAP SQUAD - Reprappers
I too would stay away from kickstarter projects. Especially gigabot, I've heard a lot of bad things about them. Its never a good thing when a companies website has more pictures and information on their "team" then there actual printer. I to have heard that they are in way over there head with the number of bots ordered. This translates into bots being thrown together usually with the wrong or miby REPRAP SQUAD - Reprappers
I'm sorry but for $2,500+ we could build a much better large format 3D printer. All gigabot is, re-using old kickstarter and reprap tech blown up. Nothing revolutionary to my knowledge. More power to you all, I hope you do well. But its not a RepRap, its a repstrap. Advertising on here just doesn't seem like you would get great feedback. I'm kinda disappointed that you guys haven't employed any nby REPRAP SQUAD - General
As far as nozzle size goes, the majority of it comes down to the hot end. Most of them you can un-screw the nozzle and put on any size you want. Layer height comes down to whatever you set it to be so any bot will work. As far as usable print size I am not sure of all the bots sizes. My recommendation would be the Printrbot. You can extend the axis if you want which will give you a large print siby REPRAP SQUAD - Reprappers
The spring between the two nuts is a method used for anti-backlash. I've been using that method since my first RepRap. It works by putting opposite force tension on the nuts which in turn takes out any slack on the threaded rods. I recommend it. Its always served me well at least. It was a method that is borrowed from CnC builds. I used to build CnC's. I'm glad you got it figured out.by REPRAP SQUAD - Reprappers

I too must say I am with prusa. Not to say its okay to be rude but makerbot to me is a marketing campaign, not a true reprap company. Its is what you get when you only care about money funded by people who only care about money. @ Simba- I'm glad to here others are working on the same idea. I've seen some other android controlled reprap stuff most of it for a specific machine and not very universal. I can't wait to setup your software. Android GUI should have been exploited a long time ago. Its a natural step in the right direction. In between running from a computer and SD card. I to was like you both but the extra time was worth it. The knowledge I learned along the way is invaluable. building my first bot from scratch tought me so much about repraps in general. It gave me working knowledge of the machine, which helped a lot when it came to fixing things as well as eventually designing new platforms. To each there own but for me it was definitely worth the extra time evby REPRAP SQUAD - General
I decided I needed to make my X-axis more stable. After looking around to find something I realized that there wasn't much out there. Most of what I did find was CAD files showing it in theory. So I decided to come up with something my self. I am currently creating another one to be tested on another machine because the one I designed It for is not yet done with design and modifications. I've actually been designing and building a variation of the J Head hot end. Ive put a small thread like you said. For the nozzle I took solid brass acorn nuts and angle milled them to more of a nozzle shape. I'm also building 3 different size nozzles ranging from .25mm-.6mm. I'm also changing a few other things such as a better joint between the inner tube and the brass block. Essentially the teby REPRAP SQUAD - Mechanics
RAMPS basically is more user friendly. Everything is setup for ease of the user. You can also find reprap boards that have basically all the main electronics on one board. Another reason I prefer RAMPS I that most of the parts that can be damaged are desperate. So if you blow a driver board you can just replace that one board which costs about $10-$20 instead of having to desolder chips or spendby REPRAP SQUAD - General
I'm sure you can find complete electronics packages. I use eBay a lot but its always good to check out the sellers. There are quite a few with x and y on the carriage. You just have a lot more to lift. You have to move all the extra weight on the carriage plus on the z axis you have to lift the bed platform and the heated bed without it becoming un-level at any time during your print. I would recommend a Printrbot the original with printed parts. If you don't mind spending time sourcing parts to keep within that $400 budget. GITRDUN is right though the majority of that money will be spent on electronics. You also might want to look into finding some scrap parts to save some money. You can find hardened rods in scrap printers or scanners. Sometimes you can find usable motors asby REPRAP SQUAD - General
The only problem I have is with the larger displays which is what I would need 8" + . They seem over priced. I could buy and modify a nice tablet for that price. The smaller stuff isn't too bad. Its good for developers that want an easy platform or people that are learning. For those prices I think I will stick to salvaged parts on newer equipment. That way I can spend more money on things that aby REPRAP SQUAD - Developers

The majority of reprap printers are made using 1.8 degree nema 17 stepper motors with 4-wires (bi-polar). I would recommend looking into nema 17 steppers used in 3d printers. There are a lot of different types and brands that will work. As far as electronics go my personal favorite is RAMPs. When it comes to accuracy several things will come into play but the majority of built printers really comby REPRAP SQUAD - Reprappers

I am trying to find a place that I can find PEEK round solid bar stock in 1 ft or less lengths and PTFE tubing in 1ft or less lengths.
