I think this is a great idea, especially if it's an already easy to find part. A few concerns about it thought would be: what temperatures can it run at? can it be heated? how small is the opening tip? do you need pneumatic pump for the spring load? if these issues would fit the project then it should work well. We'd still have to get a "pump" system for the plastic to work with it at a more liby Dylan - Mechanics
I believe there must be a problem with the power flow on the extruder board. I got it programmed with my usbtiny with the hex file created from the arduino software. When I plug in my usbtiny or my ttyl directly into the ext board the power and debug lights come on, but when I have the 12v power connected only the power light comes on and I can't get the mobo and ext to talk to each other. I have the error: avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00 avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51 I have power to the board, I have the right com, I know the ttl-usb works because I us it on this pc the same com port to program the mobo. I know the chip is in right because the bootloader works. I can't program the extruder board if I have the ttl plugged intoby Dylan - Reprappers
The extruder board has a space between the osc and the quad head for a cap but I don't know which one it's supposed to be. C12 and 13 seem to be for the osc and r2 is the only other marking next to it. Should I be to assume that it's actually C12 and C13 refers to both caps on the osc? It just appears there on the solder webpage. also, could this be what's stopping me from programming the chip?by Dylan - Reprappers
sparkfun is now out of the 328 and don't have any other tqfp that I see they must have gone fast. lol.by Dylan - General
Newark now has listing at 0 tayda actuall have the atmega8 which will NOT work (I tried, lol) alldav is also out of stock. I found a place that does have a buch, but a $50 handling fee. I spoke to someone at mouser and they say they'll have some in a month or 2 pain in the booty. If the 328 will work, I'll try getting one of those.by Dylan - General
I sent them an email asking them to send me the part, but haven't heard back yet. I hope I won't have to buy it again. Obviously this puts be behind even longer. Figures. thanks for the inputby Dylan - Reprappers
ATMEGA8 16AU 08478 They sent me the wrong freaking chip. Not only that they sent it a month later saying it was back ordered. It does appear to have the same pinout, but 16mhz (which I have on there anyway). Can I use this chip? Will it have enough memory? Is there anything I need to do to get it to program the bootloader since I tried the default ATmega8 boards in the Arduino software? p.s.by Dylan - Reprappers
It tells me to use the bootloader for the 168, but the chip says ATmega8 on it. I keep getting an error when trying to load the bootloader. avrdude: Yikes! I put together the extruder board, don't have anything connected to it yet and am trying to put the firmware on it. I keep getting a timing error. I am working on a wooden mendel. I was wondering if anyone in the area has all the parts for a mendel. I would like to borrow/rent and cast and mold them. I'd be willing to make extra parts of each to give back if you have them. Also. I am interested in making $80,000. I don't have the money to build something with those specs, but would like to be on the team if houston wants to make one as outby Dylan - Texas, Houston RepRap User Group
OMG, I finally found a place. I am apparently a little lysdexic and kept typing qtfp instead of tqfp. Here is a link to a place that has them at a good price too. $1.90 each, nice, I got 3 just so I'd have some for my next build (assuming gen 3 electronics are still used. One thing that was odd, standard shipping for 0.99 express for $35 Anyway, let's see how it works...by Dylan - Controllers
it appears that moderndevice and adafruit only have the through hole not the qtfp, It seems that none of the listed sites have qtfp atmega chips with the same or better specs. damn I didn't think it'd be this hard to find a chip. lolby Dylan - Controllers
would the 328p be compatible with the new extruder controller? If so, thank you this helps me no be at a standstill. Dylanby Dylan - Controllers
I tried digikey already, but I didn't think about Jameco, thanks. Mouser doesn't have the 20mHz until March, the 10mHz they have in stock. Digikey won't have any until Jan. Jameco seems to have the right one in stock but won't ship for 8 weeks. I guess I'll have to wait until Jan... and I was hoping to have a minimug by this weekend or at least years end. such is life.... I'll double check Jaby Dylan - Controllers
Anyone have an extra Atmega168 qtfp? Mouser seems to be back ordered til march... Or at least know of a supplier that might have it in, I want to get it this week... hopefully. Thanksby Dylan - Controllers
If someone is willing to loan (send) me a set of good mendel parts, I'd be willing to clone mold them and send them back their set, plus a new set as payment/thanks. If anyone is interested in this, I would probably start selling full sets (of the RP parts) for about $75 USD +shipping costs worldwide (assuming my cost estimates are correct). If anyone is interested (who has nice clean parts), pby Dylan - Wanted
These are for the US "equivalent" the R3-2RS are off by fractions of mm. I plan on getting my set to work. I contacted a seller on eBay and this is the cheapest I've found so far. 50 R3-2RS bearings at $31.95 INCLUDING shipping. (probably US only) his regular price is about $4-5 more, I told him about our project and asked for group discounts. eBay user: bestbearings just tell him redteardropby Dylan - Mechanics
I agree with Plugs, I want the right amount at less price, not more just to save on per unit... unless I want to build more or make kits to sell. For some of the stuff on the BOM list it's like 104 when mcmaster sells them in sets of 100... I'll go to the hardware store and buy the extra 4, unless I just have them sitting in my bin. I already bought my R3 bearings on ebay adn 64c each, better alrby Dylan - Mechanics
I am based in the US. The R3 series was the one I was looking at. I'd rather pay +-63 cents each (same price you got $35 for 50) than the $1.40 USD I normally see as the cheapest 645. The nice thing about trying to get it cheaper... if I use the R3 I can use standard nuts and bolts in imperial at my local hardware store if need be. I would prefer to work in metric though... no fractions, easily mby Dylan - Mechanics
48 bearings is a lot... especially at those prices. I'm assuming I can change them out for other bearings to try and save on cost. i.e. 1/2inch OD bearings (12.7mm) 3/16" ID (4.76mm). I can just screw them down tight to take up that 0.76mm slack, or just drill out the hole bigger and use 3/16" nuts. What do you guys think?by Dylan - Mechanics
Yeah the breadboard one. I noticed this error on the site. The crystal is on pin 30 and 32 of the board, but the instructions use wire hookups to 31 and 32 so that wouldn't do any good. "Side A, 21C to 31C. XTAL from chip to crystal" That wasn't my problem though, I was a dummy and didn't have my crystal capacitors in the ground rail properly. I'm still having trouble programming though. ( ) tby Dylan - RepRap Host
got it fixed, I had the stupid crystal not installed properly. (the sanguino site also needed to be updated for this)by Dylan - RepRap Host
I built a breadboard Sanguino. I installed the sanguino software and edited the boards.tx file etc etc. I opened v12 of arduino software and burned bootloader to the chip and it said that it worked fine, but I can't upload. 1. pin 1 (PB0) doesn't light up on reset 2. pin 3 (PB2) does flash 3 times on reset and every 6 seconds (this sounds odd to me) 3. I am getting a generic connection error "stby Dylan - Controllers
update: I tried using the Arduino 011 program instead of the 12 and I still have problems with it. can anyone help?by Dylan - RepRap Host
I made my own parallel programmer based on the instructions on arduino.cc and it seems to work ok because if I select the wrong board it tells me that it doesn't detect that type of chip. If I select the Sanguino board it doesn't give me this error. (I am using the 644 not the 644p so I changed the board.txt file accordingly) When selecting Sanguino as the board this is the error I get: Quote Bby Dylan - RepRap Host
thanks guys, that's a really good starting point. I'll let you know how it comesby Dylan - Controllers
I am looking for a good tutorial on reading and writing to the SD card. I would like to be able to write a standard txt file that I can open on the pc. I am currently using PICs in basic, but have started venturing into the Sanguino (for generation 2 or 3) which I guess is Arduino compatible. I would also like to be able to make the card readable from my hardware to the pc with it's usb cable, buby Dylan - Controllers
It wasn't the mags I saw light up, it was the quads. Although I thing I fried my chip. I got the LEDs off and the second one works still, but the first one is dead. I replaced it will a small through hole and that lights up, but to test it, I kinda forgot about my voltage converter for 5v and had it connected directly to 16v... damn. when I first did this, the 3 quad and index lit up then turnedby Dylan - Controllers
ok, thanks, I see it now. I tried getting them off, but it looks like I broke them. I need more of these chips for another project anyway so I'll try to get a few extra from Zach. I am a little concerned that the other 3 LEDs light up with just power connected. I thought the index was only supposed to flash on once per rotation not be on all the time. Could this be a problem with having the otherby Dylan - Controllers
