I though part of the discussion was multiple controllers on the same board to reduce parts count for the interconnects.by freds - Controllers
Rather then three to a board, how about two? That way at the most you have spare axis for futher experimentation.by freds - Controllers
Hi Javier Thats great to hear that you were able to use the same cable and software to program the extruder controller also.by freds - Controllers
Hi Lionel Well your first step would be to catalog your resources. Is there a machine shop, prototyping lab, programming group, etc? A number of such enviorments start with mounting a extruder on a Cnc Mill.by freds - Reprappers
What is this a class project? It should be possible, this type of control more and likely should be implemented off of timer interrupt. But as a exercise you could do it this way. 1. Save the desired number of steps for each axis 2. Calculate the number of steps per second requried for each axis. 3. Calculate the time delay between steps dividing steps per second into 1000 4. Take the currentby freds - Controllers
I took a peek into the generation 3 firmware 1.2 for the motherboard and there's a routine in steppers.pde: // enable our steppers so we can move them. disable any steppers // not about to be set in motion to reduce power and heat. // TODO: make this a configuration option (HOLD_AXIS?); there are some // situations (milling) where you want to leave the steppers on to // hold the position. // ZMby freds - Controllers
Paul Midgley and Adrian Bowyer posted ideas/mini test on using plastic bottles. I think Adrian designed his extuder block with a channel to fold the plastic.by freds - General
The project is open source and world wide so it is not targeting any paticular market, so feel free to contribute your recommended changes.by freds - Controllers
Your very welcome! I see that you posted on the orginal blog that it worked for you with the cupcake. Did you use it for both the Sanguino motherboard and the extruder controller? If the extuder controller what was the difference in the commands and or fuses?by freds - Controllers
Ah I guess I was asking about the linkage/cooperation hoping someone would step up to plate. I haven't used Skeinforge yet as I got diverted off my personal advancement coaching some local kids that have access to a laser cutter (sort of makerbot) and a CNC mill so we will be moving onto this phase shortly. Though you are right as long as it is Wiki we can simply generate the links for the croby freds - Skeinforge
ahh that looks a bit too large as we are looking for less .5 mm or less? Answer: .093 " = 2.3622 mm Now if say this is a part at the bottom of pressure cooker (electic version is there such a thing?) that will with swell extrudes a three millimeter fiber? How many PSI can a presure cooker handle?by freds - Mechanics
Interesting concept, my take on the latest G-code interpreter is that it is doing a good job of deciding (code examination, not real work experience) what motion are necessary based on a timer interrupt to control all three axis’s. Though if it could reduce the complexity of such code to something easily readable I am all for it. While the ATmegga644P as designed in the Sanguino uses a 16mhz exby freds - RepRap Host
We now have two commercial directives’ of RepRap that are starting to generate substantial feedback to our tool chains post extruder is up and running phase. Since its open source and we have no control over their community of users, how do we keep them involved in RepRap or provide efficient links between knowledge/cooperation?by freds - Skeinforge
The extruder always seems to be the hardest hurtle to get over, but hang in there!by freds - Reprappers
I do not think you need to remove the teflon, saw a video of adafruit using such a pan as is.by freds - Controllers
I am doing a project with some high school kids for a pro light 1000 mill that is driven by a PCI controller board in the PC. The mill has external I/O ports that are controlled via machine specific M g-codes which we are interfacing to our extruder controller. We envision taking the Darwin g-code and running it though a translator to convert the extruder related M codes to our machine specifby freds - Controllers
Hi Toni A number of people have done it. Sort of key question is how is your CnC mill controlled? If it is attached to a parallel port on a PC then you can simply substitute a Sanguino for the PC. If not then the next question is there a digital control interface I/O for your CnC software. You would need that to interface and control the extruder.by freds - Controllers
Ok you have access to basic tools. The router may or may not be of use depending on your skills. School starts fairly soon so you may have access to machining or a rapid prototype lab either though the school district or local community college. You need to learn basic soldering and electronics trouble shooting to assemble your computer control circuits for the robotics portion of a reprap.by freds - General
are you talking a cnc router or just a manual router? A few people have used a CNC mill as the motion base to drive an extruder. What exactly do you have available to you?by freds - General
In reading the links it sounds like a combination of power printing and foundry work. So probally steel powder sprayed with an adhesive to hold the shape, then heated to slightly bond metal to metal followed by an infusion of bronze to give it real shape. So not something that can be replicated with the current darwin design. It's a job shop doing and the charge $10 per cubic centimeter.by freds - General
The's a multitude of approaches depending on your mechanical ablity and electronics background, if you want a fast launch you could simply go with a cupcake from Makerbot. If not going with a kit I suggest spending a long of time reading this forum, main blog and the builders blog. Since you are still in high school do your have access to wood or metal working shop. Maybe the school district haby freds - Reprappers
I agree the a arduino/sketch development enviorment is a pain to use once you get past the stage of blinking a few leds from a sketch. Currently working on multiple extuder control code with Visual Studio and having multiple defines to fakeout the enviorment, so that I can at least step though my code and at least watch the flow before actually running it. Does the AVR GCC/Eclipse run in Windowby freds - RepRap Host
Ah why make it a single shot, do it like the Nobel prizes with periodic awards? Then it wouldn't be one big prize, but milestones of contribution to the cause. Or heck make the award as premium developed hardware that the winner can award on to deserving people or intuitions?by freds - Kartik M. Gada Humanitarian Innovation Prize
While the RepRap can make plastic parts there is a limit to fine detail that it can create, so an adapter that threads on something would be problematic. Right now parts have to be designed around the limitations of the machine, so nobody is willing to venture a reply, yes it can.by freds - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
Hi Sid Yes there has been a noticable drop, did the ip filtering get implemented?by freds - Administration, Announcements, Policy
The local schools have 12"x24" laser cutters in the advance technology lab so if you optimize the layout for that it would be great.by freds - Reprappers
Looks like a decent alternative to a laser cut darwin (less fiddly parts), so watching this with interest. It would be great if you publish your design after you get it working.by freds - Reprappers
Maybe take away the guest feature? It also seems most of the recent posts are 50+ URL links, maybe no URL links for guests or limit to three for accounts less x days or weeks old? While our users might not click on the URL links; the search engines and or security engines are recording them. So the bogus posts are bumping their reference counts to move up in the rankings on the search engineby freds - Administration, Announcements, Policy
