Hi Annirak How do you embed a picture into a forum post? Fredby freds - Controllers
Lots of dicussions lately on SMT so I thought I would throw out a topic for discussion. How about reverse SMT? 1. You lay the compents down on a sticky sheet or a dab of hot glue and then fill a plastic channel around them. 2. You then quickly flow solder a bare wire with solder transfered off of a soldering itron tip/element and pull it to it's destination or around a peg to do dog legs. 3. Take a look at Forest's captured nut design. You could have the motor stacked horizontally on top of the drive piston which could simply be a cap on the threaded rod. Then use skate bearing like demented did for his extruder on each side of the drive nut.by freds - Mechanics
I was thinking the same sort of operation for the feed tapes though I would extend the above board with a guide to butt the board being build up against; that way positions are relative. Though pick and place is great for repeative; but the only boards we make mulitples of are the stepper.by freds - General
Seems very simular to a english wheel that they use for forming sheet metal in the aircraft industry. Hard to tell from the video but is there a form below that they are working the metal around or is the spinning head bunching the metal up? Again back to my shop concept if the stepper motors where portable between machines with quick disconnect couplings there could be various frames to do a vby freds - General

I make a habit of always compiling before I select an upload. After selecting upload I imedately punch the reset button.by freds - RepRap Host
Well since you are in the states maybe Zach would be interested in it. Maybe in it's orginal functionality or as a source of parts/insperation for a RepRap prototype. Since the foundation is non-profit it might be a tax deduction for your company.by freds - Mechanics
I saw a video of a CNC machine doing pick and place. It simply picked the part up with a vacuum hose and then moved to a square hole where it bumped each wall to move the part to the exact center and squared it up before placing it. In another video of a different machine it would move the component over a camera where the vacuum head would then rotate to square it up. The boards we make areby freds - Controllers
I sort have my extruder working and was wondering if anyone local has any ABS that I can play with?by freds - Washington, Seattle RepRap User Group
Since I didn't have any ABS on hand (waiting for my store order) I had to try it! Weed Wacker cord Small extrusion How do you determine what kind of material that it is?by freds - Plastic Extruder Working Group

I don't yet have an extruder. But checkout the roast in bag post.by freds - General

Here's a force sensor that should be fairly easy for use to use in our environment.by freds - General

Fairly much everything has been done in the last six to eight weeks, kind of hard to keep track when I started. Sort of have been off work for the holidays, going back to tomorrow. Got my order in the store for extruder related stuff and bought more parts on here, so experimenting with a little bit of milling, publishing a test tool that I am working on and building my extruder are my next goalsby freds - Reprappers

Turn the problem around and do micro EDM instead? That way I think you could you work your way out from the center of the board disconnecting traces from the common ground.by freds - Plastic Extruder Working Group

Wow I am in aw, you came up with a way to silence the ladies and bring sex to our project LOL! Though there's 3D modeling and 1/3 inflation factor that could be applied! You mentioned it doesn't work too well on brass, how about a steel nut on top of brass. Isn't induction heating a skin effect? Maybe stack various width washers for more skin surface?by freds - Controllers
Don't seem to be getting much response to this thread. Arthur I hear ya about breaking taps, I always seem to break 4/32's and went though a number of them before I got the hang of it. Your right it is a education project and it helps to have many links to how to do things. We seemed to have a lot of different target audiences from skill levels to put the machine or electronics together; as to what is a valid tool that we should expect the end user to already have or purchase. A case in point Demented Chihuahua is working on a design for a extruder using parts purchased from a local hardware store and skate bearings. He advocated creating a coupler between the moby freds - General
