Has anyone on here ran the 12864 lcd controller with sucess on the folger tech prusa i3? Ive been trying for the past 6 hrs with little to no luck .....is there a trick to this?? I found this thread as i searched online to get my lcd 12864 setup. My folger tech printer came with marlin and i despite following instructions i wasnt able to get the screen to work. Can anyone guide me as to how to hook up the 12864 LCD to my folger tech prusa i3? Im using this setup now but with a pc Ramps 1.4 + A4988 + Mega2560 R3 Thanksby Ralphy - Controllers
Guys I got a free prusa i3 frame from a buddy at work and I wanted to build it out into a fully functional printer since i have several more spare parts. I have built one of these before from folger tech and i'm happy. I need guidance on the NEMA 17 2.6kg/cm Stepper Motors Are all these motors the same? I see used ones on ebay 3 for 20 bucks The MK8 extruder im buying has one motor already bby Ralphy - Reprappers
Yesterday I received a new nozzle. The strigning is virtually recuded by 95% without modifing the settings. I will post pics later on today. In the coming weeks i will expirement with .3mm nozzle and smaller to see if it helps completly eliminate the ooze. Thanks!by Ralphy - Printing
After a bunch of trail and error with my prusa i3 and some new Stringing issues I've come to the conclusion my original .4mm nozzle is worn out. I've been doing some analysis and I'm not sure how it wore out printing a roll of pla. When I go buy a new one I have the regular brass one for like 3 bucks and a silver looking high lubricity wear resistant one for like15-20 bucks. Anyone try both and cby Ralphy - Printing
Rruser, Thanks let me respond to your suggestions. The fast retract isnt slipping I can actually see the pla going back 3mm fast. I can lower it as you suggest just to be sure. When I received the printer in July it printed nicely with the same pla that i am using now. At the time the pla was new and now its been about 6 months open to the air. I've read pla absorbs moisture and it affects priby Ralphy - Printing
Here is the illustration notice the stringing starts where the extruder ends the retraction process right before it starts printing again. The beginning of the retraction where the print finishes is getting a clean print.by Ralphy - Printing
Well I had to unlock the EEPROM in that marlin software and then the numbers showed up. I modified the extrusion rate and it just ended up putting too much plastic down...the nozzle would drag the excess plastic around. I set it back to the old value and increased the retraction from 1mm to 3mm and the speed of retraction from 20 to 50 and the non print moves from 100 to 200. The plastic stringinby Ralphy - Printing
Well the results for the extrusion calibration are as follows: out of 100mm it leaves 6.38mm left over. Now I'm trying to figure out the new steps via the calibration formula but my values are set at 0 all over the Marlin Firmware EEPROMsettings in Repetier. Is this normal? I do remember flashing the board with the Marlin ramps via the Arduino. How can I calibrate when everyrhing is 0?by Ralphy - Printing
Thanks Downunder35. I have a good digital mitutoyo caliper I can use, and I will search thingiverse for a "calibration piece"?? I did one before that was a 1"x1"x1" cube and mechanically it printed the correct size. After that I sort of lost you. This is the latest print, notice those annoying strings. Found this tutorialI will be trying out in the next couple days Thanksby Ralphy - Printing
Ok thanks but i'm new to this. When you say torture test I dont understand what you mean. Is there a video or tutorial i can watch that explains the calibration of the retraction and extrusion rate?by Ralphy - Printing
I've been having this issue when printing and I appreciate any insight on reducing this stringing. Ive lowered temps down to 184 for the PLA and the external perimeter speeds are at 50%. The flat parts print out fine (2nd pic) but the vertical surfaces (1st pic) are the issueby Ralphy - Printing
Has anyone had an issue with the scale going form a 3d model as a stl in maya to repetier. I've set the units to inches in Maya and Repetier also has them set to import at inches and everything comes in really big like 10 times largerby Ralphy - Printing
QuoteJonS A larger nozzle means less detail in the print, and less sharp corners. I'm can't comment about drilling out nozzles. I've never tried that. Ok great thanks!by Ralphy - General
QuoteJonS QuoteRalphyDANG IT I just saw that ColorFabb has a 30% wood filament with finer particles. While their own site says very little about it, other places claim it'll work with a 0.4mm nozzle. However, they also say that it doesn't change color with temperature, so banding effects aren't achievable. I will look into the type of extruder I have..its a prusa i3. You recomend adding a secondary fan aside from the one on the extruder?by Ralphy - Printing
So I have gotten a bit better at this 3d print after i got the defective hardware sorted out and i'm ready to optimize my settings. I am printing pla at 192....I tried lowering temps to 187 in an effort to improve the edge quality and eliminate stringing between openings. Reducing temps alone hasn't fixed the edge quality but it did help with the stringing. I've read retraction settings in slby Ralphy - Printing
cool that makes sense, thanks. Having it checked on generates a better print? On my complex shapes it wont make the g code with the option turned on. Quotethetazzbot Let's say you have two cubes side by side [ A ] [ B ] the [ ] are the perimiters. If the slicer wants to go from A to B, it could sometimes calculate a path from the left [ of A all the way to the left [ of B. This will causeby Ralphy - Printing
Can anyone contribute some insight on what the slic3r option "Avoid crossing perimeters (slow)" is for? I found that many files do not slice if this option is checked on.by Ralphy - Printing
QuoteJonS QuoteRalphywell i have the .4mm so maybe it will jam? It will jam! DANG ITby Ralphy - General
QuoteJonS One key point is to make sure you're using a large-enough nozzle. I tried printing Laywoo with a 0.4mm nozzle and it jammed. At least 0.5mm is required, probably larger than that to be safe. well i have the .4mm so maybe it will jam?by Ralphy - General
Does anyone know a good product that wont clog my printer. folger tech doesnt carry woodby Ralphy - General
Quoteggherbaz Well I don't use Repetier but Simplify3d and with it you just set multiple processes with different temperatures at different layer heights. But if your printer have a display, you can manually change the temperature as the part is printed. I have printed with wood, but have not changed the temperature instead I use a little butane torch to create effects in the outer layer. I likby Ralphy - General
So I am looking into venturing into wood with pla filament on my prusa i3. I saw this neat article on how to create wood band looking effect by varying temps while printing, does anyone know how this actually works from a software point of view. So far I only know the slicer software in repetier. I believe this requires a code and python software? I would appreciate some insight on how to integrby Ralphy - General
