So by the sounds of that I would go as far to say that this is not the home grown solution that Mr Bowyer makes it sound. I was hoping to find a much simple guide but it seems that the process is not all that simple. It is interesting tho!by Squintz - Polymer Working Group
Nice to meet all of you. Current E-mail discussions have us doing a meet and great somewhere in January. We want to get the holidays out of the way. E-mail Brian at his address above in his first post so you can get on the e-mail list. I think we have abotu 4 or 5 people now. Exciting!by Squintz - Baltimore/Wash. DC (and environs) RUG
Is there a dummy guide to making Polylactic acid thermoplastic? I'd like to try and make my own thermoplastic as Mr. Bowyer talks about in his Pop!Tech podcast. I'm far from being a chemist and was wondering if someone has a step-by-step guide to making thermoplastic.by Squintz - Polymer Working Group
Very cool podcast. I only wish I was able to see into the future to see what my childrens-children will be doing with the future machines.by Squintz - General
That was my question also. How long before they are available in the US? I'd buy one right now if they were available in the US without huge shipping charges.by Squintz - General
What's going on in the following code? What is the purpose of org.gui.RepRapBuild class and why is it being added to Box? //Y_AXIS displays from Top to Bottom instead of Left To Right Box builderFrame = new Box(BoxLayout.Y_AXIS); //Add the Builder label to the Box builderFrame.add(new JLabel("Builder")); //RepRapBuild is a reprap.gui.RepRby Squintz - RepRap Host

It was a little tricky to get going but now that it is done I know how I did it. I'll install it on another machine just to confirm the stepsby Squintz - RepRap Host
I have the softare loaded as both binary and source files. I'd like to start contributing to the software side of things. My daily programming language is C# which is not too unlike Java. However, there is a learning curve with the various tools available. I am using NetBeans as of now. After attempting to look through the code to understand how things are done and why I have only confused my seby Squintz - RepRap Host
Never mind. I figured it out. I had to manually install the j3d and rxtx packages because they were being installed into the wrong folders for some reason. It wanted to install them in C:\Program Files\Java\... and I needed them in C:\Sun\... I'm not really sure how I ended up with two different install folders. Maybe somone here can shed some light on the subject. Am I supposed to be using theby Squintz - RepRap Host
I'm trying to build the source on a windows vista installation. I've followed all the instructions for installing the Java SDK and I am getting this build error. I think I have a classpath wrong or something. The compiler does not know where to find javax.media.j3d and I am not sure where to tell it to look. While we are doing introductions I guess I will add mine. I've been here for about a week now and have already started the process of creating my reprap. My name is David and I have a background in electronics. It is a basic background from a trade school which I have to admit that I don't remember half the stuff that I learned. I want to get back into electronics and really start to understandby Squintz - Reprappers
The Builders Blog says there will be moulded parts available on Friday and today is Friday. I have my credit card waiting. Any chance I can get these parts?by Squintz - General
Although simple, your little 4 line explaination is a good start. Thanks for the feedback.by Squintz - General
I've been pounding away at this site for several days now and I have the basic knowledge of how a 3-Axis Cartesian RepRap is constructed. However, I have not found any documentation on the brains of the system. Is there documentation on how the firmware and software work behind the scenes and how they are intended to work together? What are the mathmatical formulas being used for ensuring an accuby Squintz - General
I was thinking about milling them from a stock 1" sheet of polypropylene. I've not looked at the STL drawings yet to see if that will work. Thats on my todo list for tonight. I do have taps so thats no big deal. I guess I need to open up those STL files and see how detailed these parts are.by Squintz - General
Thanks for the response. Just as a reference this is where I got the idea of multiplexing with the arduino. Here is a schematic of the multiplexing used and here is a more detailed writeup of the punching bag project Just for the record I don't have enough electronics experience to know who's right and who's wrong. Hopefully one day I will after digging into this project a little more. I dby Squintz - Controllers
I've been searching for a detailed tutorial on making the corner brackets and other plastic parts. I don't have access to a RepRap currently but would like to build my own. Are you guys having a machine shop make these or are you making them your self? What material are you using? Looks like Polypropylene.by Squintz - General
Zach, What is the limitation that would require two Arduinos? Is it the Digital Input Outputs or Analog Input outputs or something else? I'm very new to RepRap and am interested in building a Darwin. I was about to purchase some PCBs from rrrf when I came across this thread. I like the idea of using an Arduino but using two just seems unessesary to my "amature" mind. From viewing some of the Vby Squintz - Controllers
I just stumbled across this site a few days ago and have a lot to learn. I've been looking at the different models and even though it's not finished I think I want to go with the Darwin. I like living on the edge. So my question is what PCB Board kit should i buy from the rrrf? V2.0 states that it is to be used with the arduino. However, i'm not sure if this will work with the darwin since the dby Squintz - Controllers
Hi, My name is David and I'm a 25yr old Electronics Technician from Harford MD. I grew up in Baltimore and driving to baltimore is a weekly routine for me so making a trip for User Group meetings would not be a problem. I found this site through Makezine.com. I've heard about these 3D printers but never really even considered trying to build my own. It looks fairly simple from the little bit ofby Squintz - Baltimore/Wash. DC (and environs) RUG
