I was going to offer also. God how much this place changes in a few months. 3 folks offering to help in less than 24 hours? AWSOMEby spacexula - Wanted
Many people have had much frustration with the current crop of 2d mendel lasercut files. Just like many people where very unhappy with the old Ponoko Darwin till BfB cleaned up the kit a bit. Do as you wish, just trying to help you outby spacexula - Wanted
Pepakura Designer will pull a fully to scale paper templete out of any STL file, and it's free. You are right the holes are the important part of the designs. I hate to see you go down this road, it's lead to MANY failed attempts in the last few years, what can I do to convince you not to waste your energy? Heck I will sell you My Mini mendel. currently I have this much in it. $75 bearingby spacexula - Wanted

If you use the rotate fuction it rotate from the middle (or where ever you select as center), if you use the handle, then it turns from the opposite corner.by spacexula - Reprappers
I ment the fact that your objects are semi transparent, all mine are solid, and I have to make them invisible to see through them. To rotate by the angle you need to rotate along the Z axis, but you can just use the handles on the parts to do it to. (The 1 hand is rescale, one is 2 are rotate, 1 is stretch, and 1 is move. be careful you get the right one. I don't see the "green tick", could yby spacexula - Reprappers
cluso99, how did you get the nice semi transparent look? I didn't know Heekscad could do that! Do tell do tell!by spacexula - Reprappers
It's all personal preference. The core team used Art of Illusion a lot Makerbot folks like Blender (spit) I Like HeeksCAD Many people like OpensCAD Have seen people talking about FreeCADby spacexula - Reprappers
All of this in paint? Dude download Freecad, Heekscad, or Openscad. You have some really good ideas here. If you need prototypes printed let me know. I would be willing to invest some plastic in this idea if you flesh it out some more.by spacexula - Reprappers
If you are going to do 3d modeling, Heekscad, Openscad, Freecad, and Art of Illusion all work well. The one I use is Heekscad. I REALLY suggest you go with belts for X & Y, and avoid NEMA 14. NEMA 14 are the same price as NEMA 17, but are much less available, so you will get an inferior product for more money. No need for the law. Even if it had force of law I am not pressing charges over something that is of open design, and cost me like $1 to print. The $10 covers my $1, so I don't really loose money, I just loose the $20 I could have made if I sold it. BTW the ones I am giving away are the lower quality of the ones I print. I basically set aside the lesser ones to give away, so the ones I sell aby spacexula - For Sale
This is part of the loaner program. To receive an extruder you must post a pic of your otherwise completed Cartesian bot with a note saying "I Promise" in front of it, in this thread (or link it). I will loan you 1 . You are then obligated to, once you are printing, give away 2 extruders to two people you don't know. I have already given away 3, I have 2 more that don't look so hot (my Z waby spacexula - For Sale

At .2 you start running into issues with the quality of the plastic, and getting the parts to adhere to the build plate. .2 nozzles require a VERY VERY level build plate.by spacexula - General
Absolutely . If you have access to work working tools WolfStrap is a great idea. If you have access to a laser cutter A non HomeMakerBot is a good idea. Mendel from RP is really only a good idea if you have access to someone who has an operational RP machine, can find a loaner set, or if you have money .by spacexula - Wanted

This RP set is out of date. New versions of Motor mount idler, and legs are out.by spacexula - Plastic RepRap Parts for Sale
Wow your morbid. I tend to to think along the lines of 1000 of these based out of a UAV Hybrid AirShip being used in relief distribution and rescue. My idea, but turned morbid, with a P-791 loitering at 10,000 feet, dropping these down to assault troops with vertical shots from 1000 feet, then returning to recharge. Now that makes you want to outlaw war.by spacexula - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)

As far as I know there are only 3 Makerbots/RepRaps in the State. Stefan in Charolette, Me in Winston Salem, and Jeff in Durham. I think I am the only one that really is very open with the hobby. If you want to see the printer operate, or learn to operate it yourself just contact me. I am off M-Th, so any time day or night is cool with me.by spacexula - North Carolina RepRap User Group
There is much work being done right now on the electronics side of things. If you hold off for a month you will likely be able to get a shield for Ardueno Mega that will allow you to get VERY good electronics for $150by spacexula - Wanted
I should have a mini Mendel to loan out by soon (this or next week, I am working 30 hours overtime this week at work, so my printing is now down to 3 hours a day , but 800 more dollars . froyd42, once you decide on the Cartieasian bot you are going to put together, PM me and I will send you an extruder for free, Wades or Prinstruder (you will of course need to cover shipping and fees). You just have to promise to give away 2 of them.by spacexula - Wanted
Sebastian has convinced me. I will go back to selling, but I am going to give away stuff also. It just really ticked me off. We have so many people that REALLY want to do this hobby, and some people with the money to play at the idea. Still going to offer the Union though.by spacexula - Job Shop: I make stuff!

I have found out that of the sets of Mendel I have printed, only 1/2 have been assembled at all, and NONE are printing. No matter what people think, there is no money in printing Mendels, or honestly any RepRap, even if it was only 2 hours to print, you couldn't really "get your money back". I print parts for people because I want to spread the hobby, obviously I have failed. I am starting a Credby spacexula - Job Shop: I make stuff!
The real issue with X & Y being rod driven is inertia. Think of it this way, if you are doing a .5 infill with square pattern, you need your X & Y to be able to move at 25mm/s + for .5 seconds, reverse in less than .1 second, then go 25mm/s the opposite direction for another .5 seconds, thousands of times with out EVER loosing even 1 step. Now pick up your drill, try to do the same thby spacexula - General

That's the funny think about THIS section of the community, we are some what commercial product hating in general. Seriously, if this thing was $700 out the door with a stepper extruder, HBP, and completely open source we would be claiming rip off because they turn a $50 profit, and don't upload a mcmaster carr quick order sheet .
