Hi, I am building a plastic recycler and just want some input my heater calculation. This is what I've done: calculated the number of turns required for a given nichrome wire thickness calculated resistance of the whole length of wire calculated the current draw of the coil and calculated the power dissipation. I used the equation Q=mCdT to find the energy needed to melt the plastic, where Q iby gordon13 - Controllers
Hello, I bought a pololu driver from reprap.me on ebay. I had a problem with soldering one of the connector legs that goes to the sanguino (the VDD leg) where some solder went and attached itself to a nearby resistor. I cut it away and I tried setting the current limiting potentiometer. No voltage was detected. I tried testing on the side of the potentiometer, tried on each leg, tried right in tby gordon13 - Controllers
Yeh I installed one I had lying around (took it out of an old power supply) though I don't know how suitable it is (its quite thick with a right angle flap that sticks out the front). I just tested it and it the temperature seems to stabilise at around 120 °C. I realy dont like it being this hot! What mosfet do you have by the way and what temperature is it at? From what I heard, the ideal mosfby gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
Hi, Im trying to make my heated bed work and having trouble. The mosfet starts to become really hot (within a minute or so) when the printer is switched on. I heard the mosfets that come with the sanguino kits are the wrong type. From the wiki I found that the mosfets I have, are not the ones mentioned wiki, which leads me to think they were aware of the issue and used higher power mosfets for mby gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
Awesome! That fixed it. Now it works!by gordon13 - Firmware - mainstream and related support
This is weird.. tested the voltage and got 0.7V when the end stop is untriggered and 3.5V when it is triggered but when put on the reprap it doesnt work. I disabled the end stop pull up and checked the voltage between ground pin and signal pin on the sanguino. the voltage is very low (which I assumed makes sense since the pullup is disabled?) However between ground pin and 5V pin, theres no voltaby gordon13 - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hello, I have made the opto endstop described in this page: I have then tested it on an arduino and it appears to work. the LED lights up when something is made to break the beam. Once connected to my reprap however, it doesnt work! The light doesn't come on and it doesnt affect the motion of the axis. Since it works on an arduino, maybe its something to do in the firmware? I have tried commentby gordon13 - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Seems like it wasnt a thermistor problem. Still got a wildly varying temperature ( which I am now sure is what caused the printer to stop). Even with the PID setup I still couldn't get a print to finish. I noticed the stepper motor controllers are getting hot (they dont have heat sinks), so i put some cpu thermal compound and placed a small screw or bolt on each of the controllers. this made a maby gordon13 - General Mendel Topics
Sorry for late response, ive been playing with it all day yesterday. I had Sprinter installed and a 100k thermistor (Im not sure of the exact specs for this as I got it in a ParCan kit on ebay, it also came with the connecting wire for the resistor, which is quite dense, so I assume it is the correct gauge?) Looking through the config file, I noticed PID wasnt enabled and was apparently an experby gordon13 - General Mendel Topics
I'm trying to debug a problem with my Prusa. It worked fine for months, with no evidence of problems. suddenly last week, it started having problems. Sometime during the print, usually 30 to 50% of the way through the temperature gradually drops to a level where the plastic wont melt anymore. Ive tried to print a part around 10 times now and the same problem occurs every time. At first I thoughtby gordon13 - General Mendel Topics
Im using Slic3r to generate the gcode for a simple cube. The code seems fine, heres a snippet: ; generated by Slic3r on 2011-11-09 at 21:08:50 ; most important settings used: ; layer_height = 0.4 ; perimeters = 3 ; fill_density = 0.25 ; nozzle_diameter = 0.5 ; filament_diameter = 3 ; perimeter_speed = 30 ; infill_speed = 60 ; travel_speed = 60 ; extrusion_width_ratio = 0 M104 S185 ; set temperby gordon13 - Reprappers
Sorry for not responding earlier. Finally got time to work on my machine. Turns out the problem was bad soldering on the thermistor.by gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
I don't know what I did but it now seems to be working as it should.. No idea how! I didn't change anything in the firmware, I think I must have made a mistake with the wiring and after hours playing with it, must have wired it up properly by accident.by gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
Im not familiar with jtag and fuses. I havent seen any fuses on the sanguino so Im not sure how to do this.by gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
From the diagram on the wiki I have connected the wires from the heater to the correct spot on the board. I switched on the heater in RepSnapper. It doesnt heat up, and the thermister doesnt detect any change in temperature. What could be causing this? Hardware, software problem? Thanksby gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
Im having trouble with the mechanical stop switches on my machine. Tripping them doesn't have any effect on the motors. Ive made sure that the outer pins of the switches are connected to the outer pins (signal and gnd) on the board as shown in the diagram on the Wiki. Ive also tried disabling the pullup resistor and reversing the end stop in the firmware. When I disable the pullup resistor, it caby gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
Nice. Might try that in version 2.0 of my printer because the PC psu Im currently using is pretty big and noisy.by gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
Awesome. Thanks for the clarification.by gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
If I get a psu that supplies something like 300 watts will that cause any issues (ie too much amperage causing the whole thing to catch fire)?by gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
Ah thanks. I don't have a bed so total 13 amps. Finding a computer psu should be easy enough.by gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
I am using Sanguinololu with a screw terminal for the power connection however Im not sure what power supply to use. The wiki says 12 volts but nothing about the current. It would need to power 5 stepper motors + the hot end. What power supply would I need to power this?by gordon13 - Sanguino(lolu)
Sorry I have bought the parts. I eventually found a kit that contained the complete extruder with all bearings and bolts etcby gordon13 - Job Shop: I need stuff made!
Hmm im starting to think it might be easier to get this complete kit as I dont have much experience (at the moment) and i dont want to make a mistake when tracking down individual parts. Ive come across two products that seem good and come with everything I need:by gordon13 - Job Shop: I need stuff made!
Ok thanks, well I cant seem to find any good prices on ebay (7 pounds for a threaded bar.. and i need 8) so Ill have to check teh store.by gordon13 - General
Im in the UK. Where do you get the rods? The ones on ebay are really expensiveby gordon13 - General
Oh ok thanks for the advice. I mainly chose that one because it was cheap, but looking at the mkaergear one, its not too expensive either: Am I right in thinking this includes everything needed for the extruder except the plastic parts?by gordon13 - Job Shop: I need stuff made!
Sounds very reasonable! Is it compatible with the electronics for the Wade extruder in this kit ?by gordon13 - Job Shop: I need stuff made!
Thanks for the reply. I was looking at those kits but I decided not to go with the plastic parts for the frame (i would also need to buy a load of rods which adds t the cost) and it would probably be cheaper to make the frame out of wood. The kits include all the parts so it wouldnt be worth it since all I need is the extruder.by gordon13 - General
Great thanks. lll look for the plastic parts.by gordon13 - General
Hello, I was wondering if anyone in the UK had a printer and was able to print the wade extruder components for a reasonable price? Thanksby gordon13 - Job Shop: I need stuff made!
