In the reprap.org G code wiki it shows no support for G2 / G3 (arc move) which might be a problem depending on how you intend to generate your G code.by FatFreddie - Controllers
Can you check whether your slicer is using relative or absolute extrusion mode - the symptoms you describe mirror exactly my experience with absolute extrusion mode as mentioned in an earlier posting. Initially disconnects with the same message as you were getting and then when dc42 fixed the problem, incorrect stats. Original threadby FatFreddie - Ormerod
Quotebradleyk i did think about using that or a similar design, but thought the ballscrew would give better results. i might need to have a look at building a test one using that design. RichRap has done that aswell. but he used a geared stepper. here Yes, sorry, I forgot to mention that you need a geared stepper (or additional gearing) - I pinched the idea from Sli3DR but I'm using a smaller dby FatFreddie - CoreXY Machines
QuoteJ-Max Hi, An idea you might consider : ++JM I'm doing this with kevlar line (a bit less give than spectra) and it's working well so far. I put the motor on a length of extrusion in the middle of the uprights to minimise the angle change from winding the line around the drum.by FatFreddie - CoreXY Machines
Quotebartdietrich QuoteFatFreddie It could be this (http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?340,522632,522632#msg-522632) problem which Dave corrected a while ago. Hi FatFreddie, Ok, so I would need to change the firmware to dc42. I may do that, but that still doesn't explain why my home printer/computer were fine for several months and have now suddenly started having issues with disconnections. Theby FatFreddie - Ormerod

I suspect my Z axis will be a little heavier than yours - 1.25KG (2 3/4 lbs) for the plate itself plus some 20x20 extrusion for the support + 2 heaters and a plywood base. I'm using a geared nema17 stepper (http://e3d-online.com/Electrical/Stepper-Motors/Geared-stepper-motor) and it's close to the maximum weight the stepper will drive reliably - I'm thinking of counterbalancing it or swapping theby FatFreddie - Mechanics
You could supplement them with plates like mine to add stiffness where required - if you need more rigidity use two bolts per side and make them 80mm x 80mm which will be much stiffer than what you have.by FatFreddie - Extruded Aluminum Frames
I'm using a similar system but with kevlar string (on a 12 mm drum) rather than belts and I'm getting 430 steps per mm - a toothed belt pulley should be a similar diameter so I'd expect a similar value. My build is based on this Sli3er I'm quite pleased with the Z axis resolution - I'm still dialling in settings but it looks very even so far.by FatFreddie - Mechanics
QuoteAlexY Hi, I'm currently in the process of designing a CoreXY printer made out of Misumi 1515 extrusions. I've created a prototype that uses 3D-printed corner brackets, but frame rigidity still seems to be an issue. Misumi offers metal corner brackets for their 2020 extrusions, but I haven't seen anything similar for the 1515 size. Does anyone know whether these brackets are available for tby FatFreddie - Extruded Aluminum Frames
I like the addition of the WiFi - wired Ethernet would be fine as well. Micro USB is fine if reasonably robust - I think most people will only use it for upgrading the firmware. I would expect the SD card to mostly remain in place with file upload being from the web interface so micro SD is fine for me. Molex KK connectors require a crimp tool (though these seem to be reasonably cheap) whereas IDby FatFreddie - Ormerod
Hi David, Your changes fixed the JSON problem - thank you :-) I am (was) using absolute extrusion - it's the default for Slic3r and what I've been using on my Mendel. The filament usage based time calcs still don't work (stays at n/a) - looking at the generated G code, it resets the extruder using G92 E0 before each layer change which is what's presumably confusing it. Hi David, Yes, it seems (though it's hard to tell for sure) to be a little less frequent in 1.09b but it still happens after a few minutes of printing. Thanks, Markby FatFreddie - Ormerod
I'm getting a pop up error from the web front end (latest from DC42 git repository) while printing: "An AJAX error was reported, so the current session has been terminated. Thanks David, that's solved the immediate problem. At some point I'd like to separate out the idle currents for each axis (to keep the noise down) but that's going to have to wait until I get the hardware sorted :-)by FatFreddie - Firmware - mainstream and related support
I've built a sli3dr style printer with a cable operated Z stage with a Duet controller and I need to keep the Z axis enabled otherwise it just drops to the bottom when the motors time out which is making setting up the build plate difficult. Is there any way of either disabling the timeout for all motors or preferably just the Z axis? Quotedmould Yes, I see there are cheaper sites, though it may be better to use a V profile for the runners when building from scratch rather than a profile that is not specifically designed to match the wheels. I suspect that the correct section would be cheaper if bought from a manufacturer (if you can find it listed). However it is often worth paying a bit extra for the convenience of a one-sby FatFreddie - Ormerod
Quotedc42 No drawings, but here is an image of the board layout. The height is 19mm and the width is 24mm. The bottom edge needs to be between 1mm and 2mm higher than the tip of the nozzle. The fixing holes near the top are 2.8mm diameter. The connections near the top will take a 3-pin Molex connector, or flying leads. Looks good - put me down for one when they're ready. Quotedc42 I also have prototype PCBs for a very small version of my differential IR sensor on the way. These are intended for Delta printers and contain just the sensor - no illumination, fan control, or hot end on indication. I'm possibly interested in one of these, do you have any drawings? I recommend a Duet with either X4 or shield expansion (you could start with just the Duet and add the expansion later). The think3dprint3d version has both screw terminals and push connectors so no soldering necessary. You'd need to use DC42's firmware which supports CoreXY (it's a new addition but if it's anything like his other improvements to the firmware it should work very well - ). Well, I tried it and it made quite a difference! Files on Thingiverse - I'm guessing it's now twice as stiff laterally. I just tried a test print and there was noticeably less overshoot at the corner - I suspect going further isn't really necessary since the X axis (bed) stiffness is now the limiting factor and if you're just using it to bootstrap your delta you can print the perimeters very sby FatFreddie - Mechanics
I've just tried wobbling my Mendel about and I think the easiest increase in stiffness would be to fix the feet to a solid base and to fix the Z axis smooth rod bottom support threaded rod (outside of the smooth rod clamp) to the same base - should be a trivial task and would make quite a difference in lateral rigidity. In fact I might try it - I haven't really looked at stiffness because the sprby FatFreddie - Mechanics

I would think that the thermal sink that the collet provides should enable you to clamp the heat break in a collet (have a look at the E3D Kraken - ) but I'm not sure how you would feed the filament in. You could always make a heat sink the same shape as a collet and use it to replace the finned heat sink in something like this (http://e3d-online.com/E3D-v6/Full-Kit/v6-1.75mm-Universal-Bowden) -by FatFreddie - Mechanics

The PLA I've had from has been pretty good for the price (£18.50 / KG) (I've used white, black and silver) though just checking they don't have much selection at the moment. Faberdashery filament is very good but expensive, particularly for 1.75mm diameter. I always use a thin film of PVA glue (dilute 1:6 with water and apply with a cloth) on the bed - I suspect the wedo3d white would stick fiby FatFreddie - Ormerod
Sorry, this isn't Ormerod specific but there seems to be a lot of Duet expertise on here. I'm building a spectra line variant on core X/Y and want to test just one of the steppers - is it ok to hook a Duet up with only a single stepper motor and 12v power connected? If this is ok, will the firmware allow me to spin one of the motors or will it halt when it doesn't see things like the endstops?by FatFreddie - Ormerod
