The drivers (DRV8825) should show which pins are VMOT, dir, step, etc. The VMOT side will need to be installed towards the outside of the board (towards the cable going to the steppers). If you hold the driver so the heat sink is on the right, the VMOT side will be at the top.by etfrench - General

Quotehercek Magnets give zero backslash only when they are strong enough or your accelerations are low enough. Ball joints give you zero backslash regardless of accelerations if you are willing to buy good ones and replace them over time. Choose your poison! It depends on what accelerations you want to print with. The springs can provide more than enough strength.by etfrench - Delta Machines
Magnets will give you zero backlash, adding springs will give you extra safety margin.by etfrench - Delta Machines
How does printing a 25 foot long prove a printer can print a 100 foot long object??? There have been many objects larger than a 25 foot boat printed in concrete. Does Guinness declare anything they show up for is a world record???by etfrench - General
The UI change takes about 15 minutes to get used to. There's even a doc that tells you where everything has been moved to. What makes you think the licensing has changed?by etfrench - General
Lose the Traxxas arms. Their only redeeming characteristic is they're cheap.by etfrench - Delta Machines
Nonsense, you can easily prevent any metal filings or dust from getting into the motor. Nema 17 motors are so inexpensive that you don't have anything to lose trying it.by etfrench - General
Pretend the stepper motor is a lathe and turn the shaft down. One way to do this would be to secure the stepper motor to a workbench. Secure wooden platforms on either side of the shaft exactly 2mm above the shaft centerline. Run the stepper. Place a file on the shaft. Run until the file rests on both platforms (Or use calipers to determine when you've turned the shaft down to 4mm). You couldby etfrench - General
Actually, shoulder bolts were not designed for bearings although many people use them for this. Most shoulder bolt shoulders are .002" to .004" undersized which makes for a very loose fit in a bearing. McMaster-Carr has precision shoulder bolts which are -.001" to 0" and would be a better choice.by etfrench - Reprappers
It depends on if you want the horizontals inside or outside of the print area. Outside of the print area makes it easier to build an enclosure and you can lay the printer on its side for transport without worrying about the weight of printer resting on the print bed. Inside the print area will give you larger print area as the towers will be closer to the bed.by etfrench - Delta Machines
Actually, there are quite a few other errors in the .svg. Most of the tips are malformed. I'd recommend not doing this in Inkscape. Fusion 360 is still able to generate gcode for all of the valid geometry.by etfrench - General
There are errors in lotus.svg at the two inner sharp points on the right hand side. You may be able to correct them by mirroring the left side.by etfrench - General
When the hot filament hits the wax, it will melt the wax. It's unlikely the wax will support much in its melted state.by etfrench - General
Why does AC wiring need to be in a conduit? Billions of AC appliances don't use conduit. Keenova sells genuine Fotek SSRs. They also provide wiring schematic. I made 3d printed covers for all of the AC wiring inside my printer to make it impossible to get shocked by touching the contacts.by etfrench - General
You may want to specify holding torque, current, inductance, etc. The cheapest may not be the least expensiveby etfrench - Reprappers
Why do you think that one will work better than the 84 oz-in? If both are run at 1.5 amps, which will have more holding torque? Which has better phase resistance and inductance?by etfrench - General
There are tons of NEMA 17 steppers to choose from online. I'm using these from StepperOnline on my delta printer and on my rose engine. All of them are using the DRV8825 drivers set to 1.5A. Current price is around $10US.by etfrench - General
Let me restate that to say that the driver isn't going to destroy itself or the stepper as long as the current is lower than the max specified current of the stepper and the voltage is less than 10X the specified voltage of the stepper.by etfrench - General
No, that's not how they work Generally speaking, you can use any voltage up to 10X the rated voltage. The current cannot exceed the rated current. See dc42's earlier post about the EMF calculator.by etfrench - General
QuoteKennTech The Gen7 1.5v board uses a 12 volt buss that's why I choose the 12 volt stepper motor. The DRV8825 stepper motor driver says it can handle 7 - 47 volts but I don't know if it sets it automaticly or if I have to set it in the Marlin firmware. Plus the DRV8825 can handle current up to 2.5 amp. The stepper motor I'm getting only uses 0.4 amp so I figure it would keep the DRV8825 cooleby etfrench - General
That may not have enough torque for a direct drive extruder. I'm using this one which has around 175 N-cm.by etfrench - General
