Petroleum oil might melt your plastic parts. Be careful. Lithium or PTFE grease (non petroleum based) appears to be the most recommended.by Buback - Reprappers
I think it was on Nophead's blog that i read that the extruded filament can swell once it exits the nozzle orifice, and that how much it swells depends on extruder speed. This could be an important variable, for instance, doing thinner filament for edges and thicker for infill. I imagine it has more to do with pressure in the melt zone, but it's easier to measure the motor steps than the pressuby Buback - General
Ok i've been going through all the dev't pages and cleaning up the categories, putting everything in a logical place. Many people don't know what to fill in in the template, so i'm thinking i should add all the available variables into the cut-n-paste template and just add instructions to delete what doesn't apply. I'll think about it some more...by Buback - Administration, Announcements, Policy
I'm using .9 degree steppers as well. Unfortunately, I'll have to edit every single firmware release, since they all assume 1.8 degree steppers. (not that big a deal, really) As i understand it, microstepping doesn't really increase resolution since the steps between detents aren't perfect. half steps should be just as accurate as full steps, but below that they loose accuracy. So starting withby Buback - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors

Ah it's like a horrible cycle! honesty and openness leads to too many customers, which outstrips supply, so Camiel is honest and open about delays, which leads to more customers... Don't forget to sleep, Camiel! PS, name your next electronics after pink floyd albums or songs (if your videos are a hint, you like Floyd), it will help get us out of this Gen n mess, And it would just be cool!by Buback - General
No problem! unfortunately a solar panel is just too complex. like, if you were to build your own car, you wouldn't make the windshield glass or the tires Of course, that could all change tomorrow! maybe someone will discover a cheap, highly efficient, easy to produce ink and we'll all be printing panels a year from now!by Buback - General
The com port might change if you plug the usb cable into another usb port. Also, the default com port in repsnapper might not be the proper port for you. the default baud rate is 19700, i think (could someone confirm? i'm at work now), so double check this. I changed this to 38000 (something i saw on another wiki page for the atmega 644. I'm assuming this increases transfer speed from the softwarby Buback - Reprappers
yeah, come to think about it, your right about the version numbers. ideas tend to be forked entirely, rather than revisited and perfected. I'll go through as many pages as i can and at least try to put them into categories, and add categories as i go I was worried about stepping on peoples toes that have been here much longer than I. but i came to two realizations: Most people probably don't caby Buback - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Yeah i'll go through and add subcategories for those. need to figure out how to add subcategories, first :-)by Buback - Administration, Announcements, Policy
I changed the status of wade's extruder from Stable to Working, since there isn't a Stable status. I'm going to try to find other pages that could use a status update, since a lot of the development pages have a status of unknown. "Working" is a bit vague, maybe intentionally. However, something experimental can be "working," and still need development. Maybe there should be a Stable status, oby Buback - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Yeah I think a Catagory:Extruder would be useful, since the extruder doesn't have to be machine-specific.by Buback - Administration, Announcements, Policy

According to the wiki this is the version to follow, but there are no builds of it for windows. Who knows how to do this?by Buback - RepSnapper
I doubt you'll have to wait as long as i did. I ordered around sep 1 or so knowing that they wouldn't ship 'till, at earliest, sep 25. I had to order everything else and build all the mechanics first for my mendel anyway, so the electronics arived right on time. I'm a first timer too! best advice I can give is be patient and careful! The 2 month build time, btw includes lots of waiting for shiby Buback - General
I preordered the gen 6 and had to wait about 40 days, although i expected that. They only started shipping the first batch on Oct 4th. and i received it on the 13-14th. The store is based in the Netherlands, so shipping to the US probably requires an extra thorough look by customs, unfortunately. They are going to be overloaded for a couple more weeks, i feel, until they get caught up with allby Buback - General
It's a great idea but about 20 or 30 years to soon for us DIYers. (actually maybe 100+ years) From what i know about CIGS and nanosolar, it requires the cigs material be deposited in a vacuum (or maybe just a non-reactive atmosphere). Then you have to materials problem. gallium, iridium, titanium etc. aren't things you can pick up at the hardware store. even if you could get them cheaper than thby Buback - General
Answered my own question. Yes, it does invert the axes. there's a define for each axis: INVERT_X_DIR, INVERT_Y_DIR, INVERT_Z_DIR I haven't found similar for the extruder in the config.h file, but i'm sure it's somewhere (probably with a different verbiage)by Buback - General Mendel Topics
Old topic, but i figured i'd ask here than make a new topic along the same lines: How do I invert the min/max for each axis in the standard fiveD firmware? Every comment on this seems to say "yeah there's some flag in the firmware, i think." Would it be INVERT_X_DIR in the configuration.h file, and I just flip 1>0 or vise versa? (gotta load my own firmware anyway. I might just flip the wirby Buback - General Mendel Topics
I think the problem is that the motor will snap back to one of the "detents" of the stepper. I think that that won't be a problem as long as you only switch at a full step position. the software would need to keep track of all the stepping changes, as well.by Buback - Controllers
If you are looking to order in quantity, you can just have something custom made. I got a quote from a company called chemglass a couple weeks ago: Tapered, Borosilicate Type Glass Tubes, 6mm OD x 3mm ID x 60mm Overall Length, Will Have Tapered End With a 0.4mm ID +/- 0.2mm, Other End Will Be Open and Fire Polished it would be $3.50 each for 200+ On the other hand, they quoted $96 for a sample oby Buback - General
I tried looking for pipettes as well, but they were all expensive. They also need to widen out to 3mm for currently available filament. If you could find them without the gradients, that would probably make them cheaper, as well. They will be perfect, if you can find them.by Buback - General
I think that is all fine for the general wiki layout, but the glossary should just be a list of words that people use on the forums and wiki. for example people say "i'm using a wade's"; if a noob sees this he/she doesn't have to know that Wade's refered to an extruder. he can type Wades into the search field and up pops the glossary, with a link to Geared NEMA 17 extruder in the wiki. So that shby Buback - Administration, Announcements, Policy

Please stop by the wiki page and add your name to the members list. There are no requirements; you don't even need to have a reprap, or plan on building a reprap. is PTFE available in paper like sheets? If so it could be rolled up into a tube and inserted into the glass. perhaps a test tube would work well with a Ptfe insert. I had written off test tubes because they were way to wide. Is there any type of adhesive ptfe spray sold to consumers?by Buback - General

I added your comment to the wiki, as it explicitly states 6 Ohms and i don't want others going crazy trying to track down just the right NEMA 17by Buback - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
I couldn't figure out the wiki, frankly. Yes, it does say 6 ohms min, but then most of the tested NEMA 17's on the stepper motor page are ~1.6 ohms per phase In particular, i'm using the Mendel-parts gen6, and the motors they sell are 1.65 ohms.by Buback - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
