... yesterday i had a discussion with a guy from my local granule-distributor - PS is a soluble thermoplastic! You have to select the 'stable' plastic in respect to resistance for the solvent (e.g. Acetone) - and when drying the solved PS, you'll receive solid PS again, but it would be a bit more brittle than original ... but for the use as support material this wouldn't be a flaw ...by VDX - General
Update ... ... ich war/bin die letzte Zeit mit anderen Projekten beschäftigt gewesen, mach jetzt aber wieder mit den Diodenlasern weiter ... ... comercial SLS-systems use NdYAG-lasers with 30 to 200 microns big spots or CO2-lasers with spots of 60 to 300 microns diamters - aditional there is the diffusion/absorption-rate of the powdered material what's defining the melting area ... so a laser-spot of 30 microns can melt a spot of 20 to 200 microns size only by changing the pulse-time or pulse-shape (energy-profile over pulse-time). ... it seems to be a matter of some more critical parameters including material properties I'm testing with my fiberlaser too: it's a 50Watts-laser and i can reduce the spot down to 20 microns or if needed even to 5 microns - but the correct melting/fusing of the powders is a real mystery If the induced power is a bit over a critical range, the powder evaporates before fusing to fluid dropletby VDX - Laser Cutter Working Group
... i made some tests with 2Watts trough a 0.1mm-fibre focussed in a 0.2mm-spot on coloured ceramic powder - i can melt the surface to solid dropplets with a translation speed around 400mm/min, but you have to reduce the powder-height below 50 microns or the melting dropplets wont connect to the surface benath Actually i'm busy with some other projects around the laser and constructing/millingby VDX - Laser Cutter Working Group

Hi Marius, ... DIAS is a week-job to learn, but then you have a really sophisticated basis for IR - i was busy then with closed-loop nanopositioning with some crosshatched patterns (50microns lines, same in gaps) with Moirée-displacement 900:1 ... here a film-translation of 100 nanometers resulted in a pattern-translation of 90 microns, what was pretty easy to detect/measure with the camera-sensby VDX - Reprappers
