Printing issues ...
On the format topic- take a look at this two page list referenced from the skeinforge wiki if you have not seen it.
A nice start, but more is required to get down to finding exactly what you need when you need it. We need many exact cases and fixes.

Yes, The last time I saw that one the resolution was to increase perimeter overlap.
It looks like your infill overlap is not high enough over your perimeters. It may be an unfortunate number rounding issue for that direction/case on infill. The rest of the fill to perimeters look like they are just touching- but fine. Skeinforge has a setting for that, I cannot remember about Slic3r.

There is a setting in Skeingorge under Fill, Diaphragm which puts in an infill every # layers.
I can't tell why the infill would do that without seeing the model. it could be affected by the next layers as you suggest.
I am not familiar with the viewer to answer the color issue, but it looks like the color changed every time the head relocated without printing?

Teya,
You have the right place to post.
I'm not the most experienced, and I am not familiar with that printer, but I'm assuming the printer itself is not malfunctioning here since the prints are not too bad for first prints. Here is my 2 cents worth of opinions:
Generally, DIY printers use print settings customized to the particular printer and the part to print depending upon its' features.

JazzyB,
That Flickr site is a good example.
There is a lot of information in it, but it is difficult to find anything in particular that you may be looking to find and would take a lot of time. The information contained is also sporadic in how much info about each picture is given, root cause, fixed tried and the final resolution. There is just not enough organization to it. I do like the pro

There is a thread "pictorial print issue identifier" under the "Printing" topic in which we were discussing the possibility of adding a troubleshooting aid to the website. We were wondering if anyone had any opinions about adding this and joining the conversation.

JazzyB, I have been following the reprap project for at least ~6 years I think. But that is not to say that I have read or know everything about it.
roland, I am not sure that I follow what you mean, it sounds like you are thinking about adding descriptors to each thread in the existing discussion thread format?
What I had in mind is some kind of organized decision tree like structure with pic

I liked your idea JazzyB and roland too!
So that makes a motion for some kind of quick searchable text and picture print problem identifier, and a second. I am going to count roland also as a yay vote with his statements in "troubleshooting-faq???"... .
Do we have any more votes yay or nay?
maybe as a webpage under reprap.org?
It could even be populated by existing thread info and pictures

just a thought, if you use skeinforge it has a maximum layer height limit which needs to be set very large so that it is not reached by the objects to be carved, but keeps it from running for days on a model scaled too big etc.

It could be heat buildup on the interior. Did you install the fan yet?

I think I read someone else suggest something like this before, but have never seen anything since.
It may save us a lot of time asking for someone to visually identify our particular print issue and others responding to each individual if somewhere we were to make a kind of pictorial print issue identifier which shows several pictures and descriptions of problems with the identified root caus

I had a computer fan on my electronics RAMPS 1.4 and did not know if I even needed it in the basement in the winter ~60F room temp, then I disconnected it, and got the x axis making a clunking noise and skipping. The motors weren't even really hot to the touch- only warm at the level they were trimmed to. I put the fan back on the electronics and the skipping went away.
Do you have a fan on yo

I am having issues calibrating too, but not identical issues. Your temp seems too hot for PLA if that reading is true nozzle interior temp. temp indicated is dependant on extruder construction, so it is hard to know off hand if your temp is reading accurately to interior nozzle temp. I see mine start to ooze at 160C. I have been told that PLA will crystallize and cause problems at higher temp

Does anyone have any suggestions for these prints? After calibrating like Dave Durant suggests and getting the 20mm X 10mm calibration block looking pretty decent at 100% infill, when I print taller objects the filament seems to start to have issues. I don't know if it is extruder temp, no fan, calibration issues or what?

RepetierHost v0.82b using skeinforge produces a window with the error message
"could not find the generated G-code file".
This is due to the skeinforge setting "Export, File Extension" being set to add "gcode".
This is like the third time I fell for this setting after installing RepetierHost as I think that the output gcode file should have the ".gcode" extension to help me find the right file

I ended up using automotive vacuum hose about 1-1/4" long with two hose clamps for the coupler. They work pretty well. The other end of the threaded rod is left free. The hose pieces are sliced along their axis about .5 deep from each end. I rotate the cuts 90 deg. The black rubber is helically wound thread reinforced and resists torsion for these light loads. The motor shaft and threaded ro

Ok, read about how to fix the extruder reversal in skeinforge manual: add a start file to skeinforge and zero the extruder at the start of the print. It is apparently trying to back up to the zero mark before beginning. So I am back on skeinforge and printing. At least I was until I noticed my extruder mod had sprung a plastic leak. So I took apart my extruder to add a seal and messed up my t

Thanks droftarts (thingiverse) for the idea to put the z-steppers on the bottom. I had not seen this before, so if it I just missed it, let me know.
The idea is to remove some mass from the top of the prusa mendel to reduce the wobble of the frame. It seems to work well, but I am still in calibrating stage of build. I made a new part for the z-bar-clamp. So not fewer parts count, but it make

Computer is back up, software configured and printer mostly assembled. I am waiting on the last plastic parts to bond the X-stage bushings then carriage in place. Decided on a few modifications along the way. Soon I should be in calibration mode. I would like to open a personal web page to post some pictures on that may be helpful to someone else.

I figured out why my y-axis has so much friction.
It is not due to alignment, it is due to tolerance buildup in the rods and bushings.
I tested all the bushings to a rod before beginning assembly, but failed to test all bushings to all rods. Some of the rods ae too tight to some of the bushings. before assembly that can be fixed by matching bushings to rods or by polishing either or both to g

This thing is said to work well also:
Some people put a rectangle plate near the top on the ends too.
Don't forget that not all the end area of the frame is useful area since the X-axis takes up like the top third of the distance, only the height up the legs equal to your actual build height is useful and needs to be clear on the ends.
And ditto on the alternate REPRAP frame versions to suit you

Well, I did not like the warnings about sensitization on the gorilla glue label, so I went with good old JBWeld (epoxy) in stead and I am glad that I did. I don't think that my concern about binding was as critical as I had imagined with the variations in straightness given the small diameter of rod (5/16) and flexibility of both rod and the prusa frame. Keep in mind I am trained in machining,

you can mark the belt, pulley and motor shaft inline with an ultra fine tip sharpie to check later after a shift to see if something mechanically slipped. otherwise, it is either a missed step, or software.

I ended up doing a quick test on silicone and came up with a bond line .030" thick and a bond area of .125 sq in, it holds up to 5.8 lb shear max until it let go of the wood. it deflects .030" at 2lb shear, and will deflect up to 10deg at very small torques (less than .5 inlb). the silicone easily peeled off the roughened ABS after the wood released. obviousely poor adhesion to both surfaces a

I ended up using the list of slightly oversized (in length for even dimensions) imperial rods listed in the SAE_Prusa_Mendel wiki site (http://www.reprap.org/wiki/SAE_Prusa_Mendel) and just adjusting them to their max before selecting a jig size. Then I substituted 18" rods for the 15" rods for the verticals, because the holes in the prusa brackets were loose enough that they accomodated about a
