X=0, Y=0, Z=0 is what you should read with the nozzle touching the center of the glass. As you lift the nozzle, Z should get larger. If you ran that M114 with the carriages homed at the top, Z should have been whatever your build height is, not zero!
You didn't say what firmware you were running, and there are different ways to set Z_MAX depending on which version/fork you have. Here's a clip

Well, at least we know that it isn't the endstops. How about M114 (get current position) from home? It should say X=0, Y=0, Z=a_positive_number_well_above_zero. If it thinks that Z=0 when homed, then most firmware will not try to move the effector any lower because it believes the hotend is on the bed.
I don't recall what firmware you are running, but another gotcha is that some of them will

The part in question looks like the E3D hotend's stainless steel heat break. It is machined thin and fragile to act as an insulator between the heated block and cooling fins. If you replace it with anything else, your hotend will jam after a few minutes of running when the filament melt zone migrates into the cooling fins because the heat break will not be performing its job.

A heated bed with an Xbox power supply is really pushing the output capacity. There's a reason why some of the popular electronics controller boards have a dedicated 11 amp bus just to drive the bed.....

Is this a new build or did it print before? If it is new printer, the M119 command will show what your electronic think your endstop switches are reading. If the controller thinks that they are triggered even when they are not, it will do strange things like only move in one direction or not move at all. This is where I would start, since it frequently happens with new builds.....

I printed a set of interesting-looking FSR mounts that I found on Thingiverse last week, but am hesitant to take the bed off and risk the current stable calibration. Nine times out of ten, it punches holes properly. The 10th time is a headache, where it seems to stop a rounding error's short of breaking the surface (like 19.9999999mm for a 20mm deep hole) or else goes out past the surface into open space. Maybe the latest version fixes this, but the 2013 and early 2014 versions gave me nothing but headaches with the push tool on a Mac.....

As I've said numerous times in the past, Smoothieware is an evolution in RepRap controllers. Asking a typical printer builder to install the entire Arduino compiler tool chain and edit source code is a barrier to entry that causes weeks of frustration for non-programmers tackling what is probably their first electronics project.....

You did not mention what hotend is being used. My experience has been that unexplained jamming as a job runs is usually caused by the melt zone in the hotend transitioning up into the heat sink area. On all metal hotends, you really need a fan on the heat sink. The Chinese E3D clones forget this feature. Every time that I've ever had a fan failure with a real E3D, the result has been a filame

Repetier and Smoothieware both home the same way. If you do not know the location of the effector (as in when first powering up), the safest thing is to home all three towers at the same speed (to keep X and Y where they are) until you can determine each tower's location through hitting the upper endstop. Once all three hit the endstops, then Repetier and Smoothieware will drop all three towers

You didn't say what hardware you were running. If you are running RADDS or RAMPS-FD, you may find Repetier's Due support is a little bit more mature and well-supported compared with bobc's Marlin fork.....

The Azteeg X5 Mini is a 32-bit board, runs Smoothieware, and sells for $109 USD the last time that I looked. No complaints with mine on a Delta, and it is a very popular option on the Google Deltabot group.
The 32-bit Arduino Due has the option of using a RADDS board like a RAMPS running Repetier firmware, which is more readily available in Europe. (I am purposely omitting Due/RAMPS-FD, since

I picked my Onyx heat bed up when SeeMeCNC was having a blowout sale due to a new model they had just released. They currently are blowing out some $39.00 USD mis-manufactured boards where the resistance was off slightly, which work on 24V but not 12V. I'm happy with mine.....

Bobc has left the forum due to a disagreement with another forum user, and so went the only champion for RAMPS-FD. In another forum, he threw his support to RADDS and warned that the Geeetech RAMPS-FD board has some concerning defects as manufactured. There are fixes in other threads here, but I would consider the long-term viability of RAMPS-FD to be bad at this point.....
