Zack, in reference to your most recent post: the 57BYG009 is the one that you can get for even Cheaper ($19.60) off the "specials page" at My guess is this is a phone-in only special, I haven't contacted them. But it is the exact same mfg part number. UPDATE: I wrote them to ask what it takes to get the $19.60 prices on their specials page, here is response I just got: ------------ info .ATby RoundSparrow - Mechanics
I'd say it is on par with home cooking. I hope we have the freedom to do stupid things (like eat beef that sat out for 12 hours unrefridgerated). However, when you endanger other people... This is the issue modern society doesn't know what to do with. Individual rights vs. nanny state / endangering those around you. Things like spouse abuse are difficult issues when it comes to laws and policby RoundSparrow - General
How much do they charge for shipping on 3 vs 50? With only a 10% discount on quantity 50, a bulk purchase may not be worth the trouble? I'll cool lending the money, just want to consider all the angles. He is selling quantity 3 on ebay for $88 shipped.by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
Can someone with more experience than I in electronics help me locate a place to order a reasonably priced "Thermopile array sensor" ($35 or under) that I could hook up to an Arduino? I will need step by steps on what parts I need to order Basically I want to be able to have something equal to my handheld Fluke IR temp sensor that I can start to play with (connected to a computer via Arduino).by RoundSparrow - General
kelinginc.net wrote me back, they only want to do a 10% discount on a quantity of 50. So that puts the KL23H251-24-8B (#11A) at over $23. Zach seems to have the best deal so far at quantity 50: Under $20.58 each (have not yet confirmed shipping cost) Zach!! Look here, I found that motor you mentioned (that you had not tried) for $19.60! 1125003; 57BYG009; MOTOR,STEP,2.4VDC/2.4A,1.8deg.,6.0kby RoundSparrow - Mechanics
This CNC group has an entire forum dedicated to stepper motors: Lots of good information there, including what you can salvage from laser printers and copiers. IMPORTANT: RIGHT NOW, the Reprap group is trying to organize a group purchase of stepper motors, so please speak up if you know of a suitable RepRap NEMA-23 stepper motor we can get at a bulk price of $21 or less in the USA (quantityby RoundSparrow - Mechanics
Can someone who understand these more than me study this list: Note lines 11A, 14, 15. they have a few NEMA-23 for under $30 in single quantity, not sure how much price break they give for bulk.by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
ok, we will work out the funding transfer via PM. given the holday week and all, I suggest goal is everyone have the motors picked out and place the bulk order on Monday November 26. I'll have they money to you by then. For the record: the loan will be from my small business to the reprap foundation you setup. 0.0% for first 70 days then 0.1% APY for the next 60 days. Hopefully that will gby RoundSparrow - Mechanics
I'm willing to lend Zach (the USA foundation) $1000.00 to get 50 motors until February 1, 2008 at 0.0% interest rate. This is based on the USD$20.99 price x 50 units. And I'll take the risk if he doesn't fully pay it back, as he has more than earned respect with his hard work to date. Nothing real formal, no risk to Zach except his internet reputation if he runs off to Tahiti with the moneyby RoundSparrow - Mechanics
For those of us who can barely follow... where is this research heading? Are you thinking of putting the extruder on this tripod assembly? Just curious, as I saw your video on the blog...by RoundSparrow - Mechanics
Zach, the Martini and Flask are still not on the objects page. Not trying to nag as much as point this out that they are still unaccounted for. These are like early artifacts, important to find the molds Steve DeGroof: This Wiki page: says "I am assuming that you will be working in millimeters as the standard engineering unit. Treat one AoI unit as one mm, and experiment by building objectby RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Zach, I wanted to check that you hadn't overlooked znxv's suggestions.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Part of my interest in these parts is trying to determine exactly how much material do we need to lay down to make something able to contain liquid. The minimug is 2mm thick walls?by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
reece, did your issue with the motor turning off get resolved?by RoundSparrow - Controllers
Viktor, yha, I'm already playing with Linux IR cameras right now for another project (ZoneMinder). I was going to try that; but I also have a Fluke IR temp sensor (hand held) that would seem more ideal. Such a sensor on a motor tied to the host PC. In an ideal world, point it at the xyz coordinates of the extruder head and use it as a way to validate the information RepRap thinks is going on.by RoundSparrow - General
Has there been any discussion on independent fire and safety systems? Given the slow printing speed of RepRap, I see might be pretty common to leave it unattended... I'm thinking of some kind of independent monitoring system that watches the Extruder Head (maybe even hooked into the XYZ position data) and sounds an outside alarm or shuts down the ongoing work. It could also scan for general fiby RoundSparrow - General
Howdy, Based on recent posts in another thread, it is looking like having two Arduino is what is needed for current reprap testing/development. My question is if any of the variations of the Arduino will work, or are there special requirements for RepRap? In particular, can someone doing dev review the "Arduino Deicimila" specs The idea of having software reset from host makes sense to me giby RoundSparrow - Controllers
Vic's Martini, Flask, and Wine glass object files aren't up on the Wiki. I'm assuming he isn't trying to keep these private if anyone has copies of these files, please upload to the "Object Library" wiki page. there is nothing there but the minimug. Thank you.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
howdy. (DarwinOptoEndstop page) Minor issue, but wanted to track it down. The BOM for the OptoEndStop shows a single "3 pin housing". Yet, the instructions depict soldering wires directly into the PCB. The real question is why does the BOM suggest the "3 pin housing"? Wouldn't you also need a "3 pin header" to go along with the housing? There is also a photo of loose parts that possibly dby RoundSparrow - Reprappers
So my ambitious project is to try and learn how to get RepRap to build custom computer cases. Small ones, like you find on your typical Dlink/LinkSys/Netgear home router. Plastic rectangle boxes. In particular, the motherboard I'm targeting is a smaller than MicroATX and could be equipped with a PicoPSU so no need to make the box much bigger than the motherboard itself plus a small hard driveby RoundSparrow - Reprappers
When using for electrical wires in Darwin.... any problem using cat5e instead of cat6? I expect it doesn't matter, but wanted to be certain before it is assembled. Thanks.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Sean, in case you missed it, Zach says that the next generation stepper board will work with cheaper $30 motors. It caught my attention that one Zach cited at AutomationDirect - the price drops to $21 when purchased in quantities of 50. Group purchase opportunity, assuming a better (cheaper) motor isn't found by the time the new new stepper board is ready.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
Steve, what have you figured out? I'm poor at both soldering and mechanical, really helps to follow those in front who know more where they are going I have most of the parts on order, trying to get someone local to help with the PCB assembly/soldering. So far, no other RepRap users in San Antonio. Entirely lost on the printed parts.by RoundSparrow - Reprappers
I am another person trying to be a reprap user / work on the software side of things. What is the current state of ordering the 106 printed parts for Darwin in the USA? Do I need to negotiate payment with someone who has a working RepRap... or someone want to go in with a group order? I am willing to combine a few orders and split them back out (take on the $ risk, ship to other people on theby RoundSparrow - Reprappers

Zach. I think it would be cool if you published sales stats. I know from working on other projects that the forums don't always reflect the true level of activity (many don't post). Not to add work to your plate, but if trivial - might help to give some idea of level of activity out there.by RoundSparrow - General
So I take it it is the "Universal Controller v1.2 PCB" that isn't in stock, as I was able to order all the parts but that. Anyone have a spare they are willing to sell in the USA? Thanks.by RoundSparrow - General
The BOM (parts.reprap.org) seems to have some issue with McMaster. It says part #9657k108 for Spring, but I notice it is a _pack_ of springs? is it 4 packs we need? The X tooth pulley and Y tooth pulley have exact same part number? One of them is wrong? Thanks.by RoundSparrow - General
