It's hard to tell, but for the last few solid blue layer, there is actually no filament switch. This feature is more apparent with models with a solid color for the last several layers. Keep in mind that the dual color Benchy model has both blue and brown colors right up to the last few layers.by RP Iron Man - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements

@Starscream83 No issues with kinked filament in the ProFeeder. There is only a small section where the filament is unconstrained. I have printed semiflexible materials like TAULMAN PCTPE (Flexible Nylon) without issues. However, I would not recommend printing super flexible filaments like Ninjaflex. As for brittle materials, I have not had issues with material breaking. The radius is a very genby RP Iron Man - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements

@MechaBits The Prometheus System does have a large (~150mm) retraction on each filament switch. It uses 5:1 geared steppers though so it can pull the filament in and out quickly. We also use custom G-code and machined parts to minimize stringing and reshape the plug that forms at the filament tip to ensure reliable filament switching.by RP Iron Man - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements
@Frans@France Here are some up close pics. It was difficult to keep them in focus since I zoomed in so close. @Origamib I am sorry that you find the GIFs distracting! I was using them to showcase the different type of objects you can create. I'll try to explain the system a bit more with detailed pics. I have some exciting news about a new product that we have been working on The Prometheus System! DisTech Automation has developed a new solution for multi-filament 3D printing called The Prometheus System which allows you to print 2 different filaments from a single nozzle. It works by pulling one filament out of the hot end and feeding another filament into the same hot end to switch betweby RP Iron Man - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements
I do not currently have a UK distributor, but shipping from Canada to the UK only takes about a week. As for carbon fiber filled filaments, unless you are printing several spools of that stuff you won't have to worry. The Prometheus nozzles wear very slowly. There should be no problems using the Prometheus in your set-up My hot end uses exactly the same mounting dimensions as the J Head so it should be an easy drop in replacement. Let me know if you have any more questions! Thanks.by RP Iron Man - General

Hey Everyone, I am so sorry about the late update. As of about 2 weeks ago I finished shipping all of the Indiegogo hot ends. There are only a couple of hot ends that have yet to be shipped. If you have not received an email about this then your hot end has already been shipped. If you have not yet received it then it is likely still on its way. @gen2eng I am happy to hear about your success I am curious about that detergent odour. As far as I know the nozzles are completely scentless However, the package could have been shipped next to another smelly package and picked up the odour. Also, you will notice that the PTFE Tubing I sent has a very strong "factory smell" odour so maybe that's what you are smelling. This is very noticeaby RP Iron Man - General
@gen2eng Wow, thanks for the detailed analysis. You really saved me a lot of time! You should not lengthen the transition-zone length as doing so will increase the length of the PLA plug and increase the extrusion force required. If anything, further reducing the transition-zone may help, but 2.5mm should be enough. Ahh, I see. It definitely looks like your extruder is the problem. Using a dirby RP Iron Man - General
Also, I forgot to mention: You should not have to further decrease the length of the "transition-zone". 2.5mm is already very short so this will not be the problem. As long as the fan is running at full speed then the "transition-zone" should be short enough. As a test, try pushing this PLA filament into the nozzle and then removing it and checking the length of the "plug". The plug length shoby RP Iron Man - General
@gen2eng I am glad that you got your Prometheus Hot End all set up and running I am curious why you have had success with some PLA but encountered difficulty with other PLA? This is not expected. You should not have trouble printing with PLA at all unless it is really low quality filament. What is the difference between the PLA that works and the difficult PLA that doesn't? Hey Everyone, I am really sorry about the lack of updates these past few weeks! I have been really busy but things have been coming along. Most of the machined parts are finished, but the 1-Piece Stainless Steel Nozzles are still in production.
