Hi! I'm going through the process of re-releasing Darwin's design files. This has resulted in some remodelling, and now I need to re-process all the STLs through AOI. SolidEdge (which I designed the models in) exports massively chunky STL files, so we have traditionally run them through AOI to skinny them down. Doing this to ~50 files is mind-numbing, and it occurred to me that perhaps it wouldby EdSells - RepRap Host

All Steve's post is good, but the 4 holes are very useful in assembly for retaining bolts. Any positioning rounding should be toward the centre. Cheers Rick and Steve.by EdSells - Mechanics
Some new properties for you for the latest SVN: Extruder0_ShortLength=1.5 Extruder0_ShortSpeed=1 Extruder1_ShortLength=1.5 Extruder1_ShortSpeed=1 Adrian's new code speeds up the nozzle for short segments. This work-around massively improves previous problems caused by segment-pausing (the pause between segments was causing a noticeable extrudate dump between short segments, over a radius for exby EdSells - Reprappers
I've committed a nozzle wipe method to the latest version of the software. Here's some more parameters for your local properties file: Extruder0_NozzleWipeEnabled=false Extruder0_NozzleWipeFreq=4 Extruder0_NozzleWipeDatumY=12 Extruder0_NozzleWipeDatumX=20 Extruder0_NozzleWipeStroke=15 Extruder1_NozzleWipeEnabled=false Extruder1_NozzleWipeDatumY=12 Extruder1_NozzleWipeDatumX=20 Extruder1_NozzleWiby EdSells - RepRap Host
Hi, I got asked "what our current status" was again. What would you guys say to a single line strip banner, ticker tape style, at the top of our home page for immediate view... E.g. STATUS: Currently preparing the first release. Tuning printing parameters. It would placate plenty of perusers (and perhaps look quite exciting). eD _______________________________________________ Developers maby EdSells - Developers
Hi, just committed some important changes to the code: - Important: First layer now prints @ z=0 i.e. home position (previously @ z=extrudate height). It's quicker and easier to tweak the nozzle to home position to the right height for the first layer, which was previously a bit of a hit and hope. Plus it's safer, at the home position the nozzle doesn't have to physically touch the bed, which iby EdSells - RepRap Host

Thanks for the parameter tweaking terminology guys...! How's this: methamphetamine or no methamphetamine, I'm twiddling on. And I'm not talking punding, easter egging or shotgun debugging, I'm talking factoring the fudge and cutting the slop - I guess frobnication. Coz until _this_ phase is nailed, I guess Darwin's slightly (and this is my favourite) 'twacked' ;-) (You know I'll have to crowbarby EdSells - Developers
Hi guys! Adrian and I have completed a page on the wiki with documentation for all the parameters used in the code. We've included the values we're currently using for Darwin, and it'd be pretty fascinating to compare the values we're all using... so if you wanna add your own columns up there that'd be cool: How to build a RepRap -> Tweaking. Hi! Thanks for that. I'm afraid I've been suffereing from broken computers and haven't been able to fix this yet. It is on my list and will be done asap. Will post with updates when complete. eDby EdSells - General
Nice motor flippin. Fraid we can't spec the required torques for Darwin, as we're still in the research stage, so the nanotech motor ST5709S1208-B (spec'd here: ) is something 'chunky enough'. eDby EdSells - Mechanics

Nice script! Agreed, single bolts must be a complete pain - I'm not used to having to order them in as boxes of 100. I'll check out the possibilities for a more universal bolts set, but fraid not in work till probably Tuesday... . Will post Tuesday. eDby EdSells - Mechanics
Hi Zach, Was gonna start embedding the sheets, but have a sugggestion... It would be kind of neat if the suppliers were on the same sheet as the parts list, that way any edits don't get lost between sheets, plus it's a bit confusing flicking between sheets to find out where to get the part. Or is there a reason I'm missing? Just wanted to get it nailed before embedding... eD --On 14 Juneby EdSells - Developers

Zach, This might be redundant coz of a forum-belated email I got saying you were having trouble connecting up the wires. If so, just ignore... When I was wiring Darwin, Adrian showed me how to get the connectors onto the wire. I took some photos of him doing it (I nearly put the camera on motor drive he was so damn quick) and have just put them on the wiki for you. If you can make my picby EdSells - Developers
Ello! Hope the weather's as sweet with you guys as it is here... I'm starting to get involved in tweaking Darwin's printing to get a better output. Adrian's already solved most of this, but we've still got a few issues which we're working on now. I've listed these issues on the Things To Be Done page under Printing Tweaks (http://www.reprap.org/bin/view/Main/DarwinTodo). If the other printby EdSells - Developers
Ello, After wiring up Darwin, I'm an advocate for using only 3 endstops to establish the home positions (the minimum requirement). Those extra three max-endstops are of course completely possible, but can be made virtual in the software (yet to be implemented it think?). Software replacing hardware... 1's & 0's cost less and you don't have to wire em ;-) eDby EdSells - Developers

Hi! Assembling the electronics has been wikified, if you get a chance to review it in case I've put anything dangerous (like accidentally making a home made electric chair) that would be great. Also, testing could be fleshed out a little if you have 5 minutes. A minor frustration is that I can't make the pics the width I want - I've tried inserting the following code, but it doesn't like itby EdSells - Developers
Hi! I've made a mistake on titling some of the wiki pages: I should have preceded the assembly and BOM pages with 'Darwin' to make them future proof. Rather than deleting the page does anyone know if there's a way of renaming it? Cheers, eD _______________________________________________ Developers mailing list Developers@reby EdSells - Developers
Yo! Here's the least significant issue I think I've ever contributed: a couple of icons I've made for the browser's shortcut menu - I thought it might give our site a bit of familiarity. I've chucked in the 48x48 res on the wishful thinking that modern browsers can read that. I also found this link useful for actually implementing it, but I'm a complete beginner in this area, so it's probby EdSells - Developers
Hi! I reckon it's just a matter of recruiting continental RepRap-reps who would be willing to take on local tasks like translations or sourcing parts from local suppliers. I reckon it's an essential can of worms, but on account of its chunkyness would be best opened after replication? eDby EdSells - Developers

Whilst I agree with Zach's points, I've also spent the day wiring up Darwin, and I've gotta say that, after Adrian showed me how, the connectors are pretty simple. They might take a tad longer (I timed Adrian at 20 secs per connector... pdq!), but the fact you're non-branded simple parts and tools certainly appeals from the purist side. Anyway my point is: why not simply spec standard connecby EdSells - Developers
