LOL. I was going to do that and convinced myself that it would still spin free. I am going to do that tomorrow!by Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers
I have the capton tape, but how do you stop the barrel from spinning with the capton tape?by Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers
Right, thats more like it! Here they are.by Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers
Ok, so I went on a couple trips to the local hardware stores and came up with something that might be better for the extruder barrel assembly (in replacement for the fire cement). The product is a "gasket maker" silicone from the automotive section of the store (I got it at Canadian Tire). Its temperature rated at 371 deg C (700 deg F) "Intermittent", and is not conductive with respect to heaby Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers
ok thanks guys. The stepper i was using doesn't have enough torque, lol.by Adam.m.Nelson - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
OK, I've given up searching the build pages. The Mendel uses Nema 17 motors, correct?by Adam.m.Nelson - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
What type of thermocouple are we supposed to use on the Mendel?by Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers

Hey, I've only read half of this thread (it seems to have snowballed), but you may be interested in these links for easy ways to make PCB's at home. Method 1 Method 2 I havn't tried either to date, but here they are none the less.by Adam.m.Nelson - General
Hey, Things have been busy and I haven't gotten to it yet. Where do I download your firmware?by Adam.m.Nelson - RepRap Host
Does the RepRap software allow for subtractive processes, or is there some other opensource software available for subtractive processes?by Adam.m.Nelson - CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
hmm, yeah that makes sense. but if you drill the insulator then insert the barrel and mark it, you can remove the barrel, use a dremel to flatten the marked spot, then bolt it all together, should prevent the rig from turning? I may give it a try, or i may just stop complaining and do it the way everyone else doesby Adam.m.Nelson - Mechanics
The procedure to stop the barrel from spinning loose seems to be over complicated (I could be wrong though). Has anyone tried running two set screws through either side of the insulator to pinch the barrel (stopping it from being able to spin)?by Adam.m.Nelson - Mechanics
I would like it. Thanks Stephen (it saves me the two weeks it takes to get anything shipped out of the statesby Adam.m.Nelson - RepRap Host
My RepRap is pretty much finished, and I would LOVE your firmware if it works on the original chip. We don't need the acceleration at all for now (i may upgrade in the future) We did the electronics last (we're both Electronic Engineering Technologists, so we weren't worried about the electronics not working )by Adam.m.Nelson - RepRap Host
What features will be lost if we stick with the chip we have (the one with lesser memory). Is it the stepper reversing and such that will be lost?by Adam.m.Nelson - RepRap Host
"ATMEGA328P" is the P what is different in the ID? The chip I have is a ATMEGA328 no Pby Adam.m.Nelson - RepRap Host
crapppp, so new mother board here I come!by Adam.m.Nelson - RepRap Host
I am having firmware issues, so here's my question. Is the Sanguino and Arduino firmware the same, or different. I downloaded the firmware for the Darwin (that seems to be the last time arduino software was used), is this the proper firmware? The new Mendel design seems to only allow for the RepRap mother board, and other RepRap boards; there shouldn't be a difference between the the two is thby Adam.m.Nelson - RepRap Host

How are you anodising your wire? Soda?by Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers
no, i couldn't find any parts locally. Makerbot supplies most of the parts when they are in stock (they seem to be out of stock a lot lately), I got my stepper drivers from SparkFun. You can buy some of the PCB's from MakerBot, but if they aren't in stock you need to use prototyping board. All the circuits should be on the RepRap main site somewhere. I have another post up looking for the latby Adam.m.Nelson - Canada, London RUG
Yeah. You can either buy the pre-fabricated boards or make them yourself. It's much easier to buy the pre-fabricated ones if your electronics are weak (But it would be a good learning experience if you made the circuits yourself). Once you have the software working on your computer get the electronics (with the motors and all that good stuff) working. Just let the motors happily spin away onby Adam.m.Nelson - Canada, London RUG
excellent thanks. Does anyone know about the thermocouple?by Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers
ok we are setting up our electronics, and have a couple questions. We are looking at this document here. This shows a thermistor, are we best off using a thermister or a thermocouple? If it is a thermocouple where do I find information on this? This also shows a dc motor driver for a dc motor, but i am pretty sure the setup uses a stepper motor with a stepper motor driver, where do I see theby Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers
If that doesn't work out for you MakerBot sells the heater wire hereby Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers
7 ohms, i don't know the voltage though (mine isn't up and running yet) but 12 is probably right.by Adam.m.Nelson - Reprappers
Moe, The best way to start with this is to make a RepStrap (like the McWire bot). If electronics aren't your thing its usually recommended that you get all the electronics and the program on your computer and get that working first. That link above should have all the info to get this bad boy running. Hope this helps. Adamby Adam.m.Nelson - Canada, London RUG
