How do I use the multimeter to measure the poly fuse? I used voltage DC for the steppers so should I use the same settings for the poly fuse?by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
Some history first. I had my printer for over a year and decided to tune the motors for the first time. I then shorted the ramps board and I ordered a new one but, not from the company that I got it from originally. When I replaced the ramps boarded I moved the wire one at a time from one board to the other board. I only made a few adjustments using slice3. I adjusted the the extruder heaterby shaol - Prusa i3 and variants

Does anyone know what would cause the heating bed to decreases in temp while printing?by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
I had my printer for little over a year now and I wanted to improve the prints more. I tuned the motors for the first time since I had my printer and why didn't I do this sooner. Now I want to tweak the print more and I'm not sure if the issue is motor tuning or some kind of movement when it prints. If you look at the image and look at the right front corner of the print you can see a slight waveby shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
So I tried tuning my motors and failed by shortening it out. I replaced the ramps board with a different companies ramps board then the Folger Tech printer came with. Z seems to be working fine but, x and y don't stop at the endstops when I home X and Y. I remembered that I switch some numbers in the trigger function when I built this printer. So could the different company ramps board be differeby shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
I think so. but i case im not on the same page as you can you tell me a little about it?by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
OK I figured it out. It was a setting called perimeters had it set to 3 so I change it to 2. Since the object is small there was too much filament causing what looked like a z axis problem.by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
grrr dame thing is all f-up. worked great yesterday but, for some reason doesn't want to work correctly. It starts off ok the about 5-8 layers the z doesn't have enough height. I'll deal with it tomorrow sooo frustrated.by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
I don't mine the Slic3r but will look into the others as well I need to either find new location for the spool or design a stand for it. I also might try printing a bearing to see if it will roll easier were it sits. Stuff I need to do when I get a chance. I'll post my new prints after I finish redoing the bearing piece. I appreciate your responses.by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
Very cool stuff. The problem is that when I print a cube compared to the gear the out come is different. The cube looks good but even though the gear print is tighter it has imperfection maybe do to the curves of the movement or maybe the nozzle height needs adjusting . got to tweak more, ug I just want to print. I'm sooo impatient. Which printer did u buy before you made changes to it? I haveby shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
yes the printer settings - general- z offset. Thanks for this info its a real help to me. Do you have any picture I can see of what your prints look like?by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
I'm using Slic3r for now only had this printing for a week now. I change the offset in Slic3r to -.06 seems to be working but need to test alot more. I'm realizing that for each object its going to have different settings . You like Cura better than Slic3r? what's better or worse about Cura. How long Have you had your 3D printer. g-code sayes : G1 Z-0.280 F9000.000 settings sys -.55by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
I Am enlightened =). I think I had it set at default .4. Now its not low enough to for the bed to grab the filament. So when i home xyz I can place a sheet of paper under nozzle with a little grab. Then when I go to print its much higher then the homing. Doesn't that sound weird? I change the layer height to .2 and the first layer to .2 but it wont grab Iam i missing something?by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
I'm getting better prints now. It seemed that the filament was heating to hot and it was boiling causing the bubbles. I'm heating the extruder to 195 for the cub picture. I still have that up down movement but its less noticeable. Also finding out that I have to change stats for each object I'm print which sucks. any idea how to print this bearing (picture above) I have slowed it down a lot. Theby shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
Never mind I'm a moron. stupid multimeter only has Fahrenheit. Actually temps are lower.by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
OK Its getting better but my bed heater and extruder I think are not working correctly because the bed temp is set to 80 and it says 80 but my multimeter say 140 and the extruder set to 250 and it says 250 but the multimeter says 430. It does sound like the filament is boiling cause I hear crackling. It also looks a little melted anyhow left some up date photos to view. the one on the right is thby shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
is that in the slic3r program?by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants

So I did a basic tuning of the motors by ear (much quieter) and it help the banning is mostly gone. Still have tiny gaps in the print need more calibrating (will this never end lol). I'm printing abs right now heating nozzle to 230 and bed 70 (I think its much hotter) should I increase nozzle temp and bed temp?by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
So if I'm printing a 20 mm x 20 mm square and when it goes from one corner to the next it will flow then retract flow retract about 5 times with in the 20 mm. the only thing that's checked is the "only retract when crossing perimeter" . I also have to learn the slic3r program.by shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
Like I said above I can see the the filament coming out is moving in a wave like pattern as its laying the filament. This is what I can see as it comes down there's like a pause were it should be constant flow of filament. Also the person you referenced still has this pattern even though it is much better. My 3d printer is solid everything is stiff so I can't do much more there. I think tuning isby shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
I'm still looking into the tuning of the motors but, my problem is the extrusion of the filament. the Filament has either a pause or more like and oval movement then a circle. Also possibly sucking up the filament like a sowing machine causing this 2D water shape or wave as I call it.. I just want to confirm that this is a motor tuning issue then a firmware issue and if it is firmware is it in thby shaol - Prusa i3 and variants

the object I printed was 20 x 20 x 10 not 20 x 20 x 20 I don't think its z but either x or y or both or the extrude. 5mm Threaded Rod with 8mm Chromed Linear Rodby shaol - Prusa i3 and variants
