I wanted a simple command-line g-code sender, but was unable to find one that worked on my machine (send.py fails after just a couple commands). The only solution I could find was create one: send-gcode for Windows. Example use: send-gcode.exe -p COM4 -b 64000 -f whistle.gc It normally generates no output, but can show the communications traffic if used with the -v option. The white ones are for controlling temperature; they go to the extruder controller's 2-pin connector. Toddby tbfleming - Reprappers
I don't remember the pin #'s for step, dir, and enable, but this should give you the general idea:by tbfleming - Reprappers

I have Sherline's 8-direction mill. It's only a 3 axis machine. The other directions are for complicated setups; they can't move while it's machining. It also can't handle fine detail as-is; there'sby tbfleming - General

Personally, I believe that Zack, Bre, and Adam have done much to help this hobby and am very impressed with what they've accomplished. I started out with MakerBot #238. Some people who sell RP kits print them on MakerBots.by tbfleming - Reprappers

Which 3 lights? If it's the 3 next to the mosfets then the firmware hasn't been installed. Only 1 should turn on, but not until the temperature is set.by tbfleming - Reprappers
There's talk on the developer list of completely dumping the MOTHERBOARD define. That will be a change for the better. It would also be nice to dump all of the tuning-related defines and turn them into M codes.by tbfleming - Reprappers
You have: #define MOTHERBOARD 2 ... #if MOTHERBOARD == 1 ... #define AD595_THERMOCOUPLE <<<<< This is ignored To fix, copy the thermocouple line somewhere after #if MOTHERBOARD == 2 #if MOTHERBOARD == 2 ... #define AD595_THERMOCOUPLEby tbfleming - Reprappers
It took me a minute to figure out how that happened since the purge plate normally slides under the threaded rod. It looks like you mounted your Y smooth rod on top of your threaded rod. The cad drawings have the Y smooth rod mounted under the threaded rod. (Did Brett point you to the CAD files? They're a good reference until our documentation is complete.) This will allow the purge plate to slidby tbfleming - Reprappers
I use two bolts tightened against each other. It prevents it from working its way loose, but I can still quickly undo it for flossing.by tbfleming - Mechanics
Just checked my setup. There's a 2-pin header on the extruder controller and an 8-pin header on the motherboard. Connect the 2-pin header to any of the four pairs of pins on the 8-pin header. The extra pairs are for additional extruder controllers (it's a shared bus). For the extruder stepper, connect the SDA and SCL pins on the motherboard to the step and direction pins (part of the 10-pin connby tbfleming - Reprappers
Using your measurements: 5 ft / 40 ohm * 6 ohm = .75 ft. I'll look at my setup (TechZone kit + 1 MakerBot stepper driver for the extruder) when I get home; I don't remember using a 10-connector cable to connect the motherboard to the extruder controller. I think it was a 2- or 3-connector cable.by tbfleming - Reprappers
6 ohms is normal; drop too far below 6 ohms and you'll burn out the mosfet.by tbfleming - Reprappers
Better yet, use one of the MakerBot stepper drivers to drive the extruder motor. It's annoying that kits still only come with 3 drivers.by tbfleming - Reprappers
The belts would also have to be replaced with either really wide and thick ones, a screw, or a rack-and-pinion. The hobby CNC router people are moving to rack-and-pinion. Right now it's cheaper, faster, and just as accurate as screws. We wish we had used rack-and-pinion on our router.by tbfleming - Reprappers

I know I'm straying off topic, but I just can't help it . I consider the Arduino a stroke of genius for making both micro controllers and a programming language that has historically been extremely novice-unfriendly (C++) fully accessible. They even managed to do it without stripping features from C++ like other languages did; the features are just out of view until needed (pointers, references,by tbfleming - Reprappers
jkelso, I'm sorry about that; Brett will send you a replacement early next week (the post office here closed about an hour ago and won't be open Monday). QuoteI also came across references to a free package called Alibre Design Xpress. Most web references pointed back to the 30 day trial version of Alibre They are the same. It starts out as a 30-day trial then falls back to the Xpress edition at the end of 30 days. The 30-day trial can definitely open it. We suspect the Xpress license can open it, but haven't tried. I've been struggling trying to get the host software to work (part of reprap-mendel-20100308.zip), but it's producing some very wierd results. This is one of the less-problematic examples (notice the thick wall): It should look like this (thin wall): MeshLab reports that the STL is two-manifold. Does anyone know what what's causing this? We sent out our first shipments this morning! We have most of the parts produced for a couple more kits, so we expect to be able to ship new orders out quickly. I'm working on cleaning up the Alibre assembly files and hope to have them posted today on the Wiki. I also hope to have a hardware list up today or tomorrow. Documentation is still in the works.by tbfleming - For Sale
