New to 3d printing with smartrap need some help

Great thinking Duranza.

Would it be an idea to put the switch below? Then you have an easy way to slide the hot end out without screwing things loose.
Or is the switch also needed as a 'spring'?

My line of thinking exactly BackEMF. The switch provides some spring back to keep it down. Although once everything is on there (hot-end, fan) it should have enough weight to keep it off the switch.

Serge: The holes you see in the plate allow for adapters to be bolted on and be adjustable up and down. The slots allow fan air to pass through to cool the hot end. I will upload pictures and files tonight.

ho ok. i think i start to imagine how it is smiling smiley

thank you . I definitely want to try this one out ? I'm thinking about this part too. we have the two main problems there : 1- head not fixed enough 2- melting head support.

New smartrap probe/hot-end plate

Hey all, I have a little present for you guys. Take a look a this little mod. I will be testing it tomorrow and when all is good I will post some STLs for whoever wants to upgrade.

This will help out with eliminating the torque of the normal arm, as this only allows up/down movement.

I like it, very clever.
Can you send or direct me to the STL files?
I will make an adapter for the Genie hotends so that everyone can use that too.

link to stl files

Here is what I have so far. I only have J-head adapter in there, but it is really easy to adapt to any hot end and bolt it to the slide. I'm taking apart my smartrap to test it out right now. I will post a video of it working later on.

Probing and printing

Well I'm even amazed myself. I knew it would work, but not this good. All of the flex on the glass is gone, and even with auto level the z axis barely moves now. I also had to get rid of the extra compensation for the last probe point as the glass now doesn't flex at all. I did end up having to use a rubber band to keep down pressure and keep it off the switch. I will work on getting a spring in there somewhere.

I just printed but not installed for now, but already by hand it seems to be indeed very good.

Can i steel your idea and adapt for both heads? ( huxley type). I need also to adapt the top to all three driving systems ( fishing line, racks&pinions and GT2) so the model will be maybe changed, but basically, it would be a real idea steeling tongue sticking out smiley
You found just something i tried before and failed miserably ! cool work smiling smiley

You can indeed. I can upload solid models if you would like, to make it easier to modify and keep the mesh light. I only put 2 holes in the bottom where I loop the fishing line through, but there is a lot of room to add GT2/ Rack and Pinion on the top.

Thank you smiling smiley

solid model is wonderful of course .. i'm still learning free cad , but have hard time with it .. I know it's bad , all smartrap is designed with blender .

For now. i would love redo the design in opens cad, so we could integrate all options in the code and put some interface on a website to generate stl with lot of different choices.. I just miss time !

I put some parasolid files in there. Let me know what works for you.

Thank you duranza,

If it doesn't work. i will redo in blender anyway .. Now i have the model, it's so much more simple to do smiling smiley

thank you again..it will be a nice update to the model .

I have just made an adapter for the genie hotend.
Print out duranza's design just as duranza designed it and add these two parts that mount the hotend and also a 30mm fan with a cowl.

STL files can be found here

The sliding base has been designed to be tapped with a M3 tap. Print this small part at 40% fill or more.

I like where this is going. Interchangeable hot-ends already bolted to the slide. Now if we can make the wires with some sort of plug in/ disconnect we would just move the switch, and slide the new one in.

Here is a captive nut version so that no tap is required for the M3 bolts.
It is just the slide part, you will need to download the previous design and then use this with it.

I like the connector idea. i think it would be nice if ramps had 6 terminal connectors for hotend, fan and bed instead of the screw terminals
Anyway, thats what i'm going to do on the next build..

5.08 pitch terminal connectors

Are there any original files available? My PC is not powerfull enough to convert the mesh back into a solid that i can edit in FreeCAD.

All my files are in Alibre Design, so maybe you wont be able to use those either?

The main plate is 8mm. I will make a slide attachment for the huxley, unless Serge has already done so.

Just a quick question.
Has the main part of this been edited aswell in the latest version?

Printed just the sliding base and that is a great deal smaller than the original part in my print.
or is it just my print that is bad (made 2 copies).

Main part is with 100% fill and Sliding base with 50%.

THX

The main base is the original file.
The other two parts are made to fit as close as could be from just measurements as I didn't have the raw file for the main part.
The parts all fit together nicely on mine.
All parts were printed at 55% for mine prints.
I will try and make it a bit tighter so that if too tight a file may be needed to trim it up a bit.

The original files had a .1mm gap between the main plate and the slide plate already built in.

Hey Reg, I think what would help on the Genie parts is to put a straight fillet on the corner of the 45 degree slide part so that only the sides make contact.
