I damaged my Melzi which worked fine for 18 months atmega644p. Think I bricked an intended replacment 1284p. should have been a straight swap in. The first 644 board had trim pots which were easy to set : turn anti cockwise till stop then 1/3rd clocwise. worked first time no problem. the 1284p board tirm pots were rubbish kept turning , so no end stop point. leads to voltage testing pita withby mmt - Mendel90
Hi Steve, Congratulations getting your printer up & going. What electronics did you use?Anything in particular you look to print ? Mike MMTby mmt - West of England RUG
Steve, If you are still testing and it starts move the wrong way you should be able to stop it by closing the end stop with your finger before you get belt slips on pulley, loads of vibration untill it turns itself off. Mike MMTby mmt - Mendel90

It has .3mm nozzle so improved definition over the earlier .5. Be interested to see the EDM bookby mmt - West of England RUG
Thnaks. looks like the resistor as no reading copared to a spare. Fix no problem. Mike MMTby mmt - Mendel90
Possibly this shouild be in the general forum , but as it might be the Melzi board at fault... All working well one day with the M90, next day setting the heater on the extruder - no response. Didnt change anything in between. temp readng on pronterface ext = 6 degrees, bed = 6 degrees, stays at 6 degrees for hot end. confirmed by trying at 50 degrees & touching hot end bed heats up ok Meterby mmt - Mendel90
Hello all, Since the last meetup, I finished the Mendel90 I had part built at Pauls meetup, heres a pic Mendel90 Also doing a refresher on solidworks, keeping busy on other stuff. Until yesterday M90 worked very well , hot end heater stopped working, no obvious reason, will sort it. Rob look forward to seeing the new printer when done. Neat looking clamp Hamish! Yes,longest part of the build . Hit problems with aligning the gantry 90 degrees to the base caused by curvature in the dibond. Oby mmt - Mendel90
Fine look Marcos. Did mine in dibond also Mendel90 2 bits ali on base. On yours is the base dibond too? Is the white band in the hot end area part of fan duct ? Mike MMTby mmt - Mendel90

Menards sell acrylic. I've not used them. If you're not fixed on acrylic, wiki:- Mendel90 have been made successfully from MDF, Acrylic, Polycarbonate and DiBond. Mike MMTby mmt - Mendel90
Stewart, Sorry but a no from me too. Would have been bit of a hike for me, so likely a no anyway, but also we're on a kitchen rebuild. project. Mikeby mmt - West of England RUG
Another vote for Mendel90. I've built Prusa (not i3) and Mendel90. Used dibond instead of MDF. Good parts/service from Nophead. Heres a BOM and parts source from a US builder: BOM Ignore the 6A 12V PSU Mike MMTby mmt - General

Sounds like bit of a lottery. Anyway I ordered & already got a Sandisk micro SDHC. Not tried it yet Amazon description "Class 4 Speed performance rating (based on SD 2.0 Specification)"by mmt - General
Thanks polygonhell. I figured out the form factor, its micro SD, can get 4gb for £3 Looks like theres an add on for a ramps 1.4.by mmt - General
Looking to add an SD card to my setup. Have Melzi board with ATmega644PA (SMT mounted) with a built in slot for sd card. Slot has a number 12615 on it Running Marlin also have a ramps1.4/arduino board not currently in use, but might be useful to get an sd card which could work across both setups From: "The Secure Digital format includes four card families available in three different form fby mmt - General

I have Melzi Ardentissimo controller for my Mendel90. Have the mid board PWR-SEL jumper set for VREG not USB. Worked fine at first, a couple of days ago both heater controllers wont heat up, thermistors reporting typically H4 B5 and stay at that. Touched the hotend and bed to check they dont heat up. Checked for loose wires, found & fixed one. Still not working. remove & put back the PWRby mmt - Controllers

Switching to ABS from PLA. Have a Mendel90 / Parcan hot end/ Wades geared extruder/ UK based Looking at : ABS suppliers They do a basic & premium ABS Worth pay extra for 'premium' ABS ? Apart from price whats the difference? I'd sooner pay difference if it saves me aggro on a learning curve. Or recommend any other suppliers? Want it on a reel. Mikeby mmt - General

Logrod, I rough tested 2 nuts and 1 (lower) nut on the idler end. M8 brass nuts on stainless. Nophead z axis couplers / plastic sleeve on the stepper shaft. The brass nuts have some tape around to fit better in the idler. No springs. result: with 1 nut less z axis wobble. Surprised me as I expected worse, intuition said 2 = more stable. Maybe changed something else in the process, but looks tby mmt - Mendel90
>is there meant to be an additional M8 above both X-ends and/or has anyone tried this? The BOM I had has just 2 nuts , one for each end, but I used 2 on each end in the way you say. Brass on stainless Theres some Z axis wobble but the prints are good. I havent tried with just one each so cant compare, you could just try it & see. Mikeby mmt - Mendel90
What should happen with wires 15 & 16 on the 20 way ribbon cable? The wiki build manual says they are "Guard loop GND" and with a pic "Note the two guard wires linked together and insulated. " Does this mean solder them together & insulate the join? Where do the other ends go? Into any GND on the controller board? Also what they for - reduce stray inductance? Thanks. MMTby mmt - Mendel90
Get M3 trapped nuts in the y & z bar clamps, one way I found: Need: small bar magnet, I used 22 x 8 x5mm, had in workshop for ages. Longer magnet or use 2 end to end for the z clamps Align (to the trap) m3 nut, on end of magnet. Push into bar clamp so nut aligns wiht the hole. From other end bar clamp, if needed use small hex key or simple wire to straighten m3 nut, so holes in the right pby mmt - Mendel90
