I've been using PET-G for some time now. I use a glass bed on both of my printers, heated to 70 deg C, with the hot ends running at 200. It sticks well and I usually have to wait for the bed to cool a bit before the job will release. I've not had the 'filament bending' issue but the hobbed nut on both of my extruders is quite close to the tops of the hot ends. Harveyby HarveyC - Reprappers
I've just been doing some tests with a spool of PET-G from RS Components. It prints very at my normal PLA temperatures (hot end 200, heated bed 57). I've been printing directly on glass as I do with PLA with no problems of the job not sticking. As far as I can see there is no reason not to use it, and I've just ordered some more spools. I use nothing on my glass bed, but I do give it a good cleby HarveyC - General
I have one of these along side my Mendel 3. Its an excellent printer once you sort it out. I had the very same problem as you. In order to fix it, you need to adjust the (tiny!) potentiometer on the extruder motore driver board which is situated on the main board behind the display panel. You need to run a print job which requires a steady movement of the extruder motor, and adjust potentiometby HarveyC - General Mendel Topics
I print directly on a heated glass bed and for the last 6 months or so have great success without using adheasives, by cleaning the glass surface before each print with 'Antiquax Mirror and Glass Cleaner' applied with a paper tissue, rubbed until the surface 'squeaks'. I get this from my local hardware shop here in the UK and their web site is www.antiquax.co.uk. The adheasion is so good that I hby HarveyC - General
Thanks Ian, It's for the Mendel 3 upgrade actually, but there does not appear any other place to post this type of query about Duet (perhaps there should be a separate section?). I found the picture after I made the post. Regards Harvey (Harry ... Hungerford)by HarveyC - Ormerod
Am I correct in beileving that the power for the Duet Shield is 12V and is taken from the spare connector block on the 5v Regulator Board?? As far as I can see, the instructions for the multi extruder upgrade do not mention the power connections at all. Harveyby HarveyC - Ormerod
I have just had a look at the .ini file that the 'export config bundle' function produces (you can examine it with something like Windows NotePad), and it is a complete set of configs from the Slic3r config directory (on Windows this is {user}/AppData/Roaming Slic3r). It could be used to copy a complete config set from one PC to another, or to backup it up. Presumably 'load config bundle' wouldby HarveyC - Slic3r
My problem with Octoprint is that it does not support multiple extruders (I have 3 on my Mendel). Hby HarveyC - Reprappers
I found the wifi was pretty stable, but I could not get SAMBA to connect on start up, nor could I get it to connect reliably when I asked it to. Unfortunately I HAVE to use wifi for the network connection here because my hobby room is upstairs and the router is downstairs. I ended up with an MSI Windbox (1.8Ghz Intel Celeron, 4gb ram, 500gb Hard Disk, WiFi, Bluetooth etc). Initially I put Ubuntuby HarveyC - Reprappers
Thanks for that information. I'ive been involved with PC systems since they first became available (and with cpm/mpm systems before that!), both on a professional level, and since I retired some 12 years ago, on a private level, and over the years I have had various 'goes' at Linux, but every time I end up wasting a lot of time and not getting very far. The problem is that, Linux systems just doby HarveyC - Reprappers
I have given up on mine because of the frustrations of Linux. Printrun worked fine and the serial connection to the Melzi board worked well, but no matter how much I tried (and I spend many, many hours on this), I could not get the smb networking to work reliably, which meant that I could not reliably connect the thing to my main (Windows) PC. The ini files used by some of the different versions of Slic3r are different, and I wonder if this may be causing your problems. You don't say what operating system you are running, but if its windows later than XP, the standard location for these in ifiles is {username}\AppData\Roaming\Slic3r. I suggest that you make a back up copy of this subdirectory somewhere else on your PC then delete it,by HarveyC - Slic3r
I haven't formally documented the process, but after this week end, I'll write some notes here. Hby HarveyC - Reprappers
I thought the community would be interested to know that I have just finished commissioning a UDoo Quad micro pc as the controller to manage my Reprap Pro Mendel Tricolour. If anyone does not know about it, the UIdoo Quad is based upon the Freescale I.MX 6 ARM Cortex-A9 Quad Core CPU, running at 1Ghz, with 1Gb of DDR3 RAM and amongst other features it has HDMI, WifI, ethernet and SATA interfacesby HarveyC - Reprappers
Presumably the firmware upgrade to enable the slave board went OK?? If so, did you then return the eprom values to default with M502 / M500 as instructed on page 6 of the Tricolour upgrade instructions? If all this is OK then the next thing to do is to confirm that the extruder motors really will not work (don't forget that they will not normally work if the associated hot end is not up the workby HarveyC - Reprappers
As far as I'm aware, there is not one for XP, but the Windows 7 one might work. If not, in the Win7 folder there is w9xpopen.exe, (designed for Windows 95), this might work in compatibility mode.Other than that, I'm afraid I can't help. I'm running Windows 8.1 here. Printrun does not need a lot of processing power. I ended up purchasing a light weight lap top to use as a dedicated printer contrby HarveyC - Reprappers
You don't say which operating system you are running but for the purposes of this reply I will assume its Windows 7 or above. It looks like you have downloaded the distribution from the github, what you should have done is to download the Windows precompiled binary from link under 'commissioning' in the ReprapPeo documentation wiki above the one pointing to the github link, It downloads as a zby HarveyC - Reprappers
If you have any doubts then buy a RepRapPro Mendel Mono direct from RepRapPro. Excellent kit, goes together very well, and is a very good printer (I built mine in July, upgraded it to Tricolour in August, and have no regrets!). Harveyby HarveyC - Ormerod
I have a RepraPro Mendel but the procedure will be the same. Basically:- 1) Heat the extruder to working temp. then retract the filament sufficiently to clear the extruder body. 2) Unclip the bowden tube and pull the old filament out. 3) Re-attatch the bowden tube 4) With the extruder still hot, feed the new filament in until some comes out of the nozzle (be careful with feed rates towards thby HarveyC - Ormerod
With WIndows I think that you will not get random port renumbering if the printers are switched on and active before the PC is started. Also if you are getting a port failure if you connect power to a powered hub, I suspect that the hub is faulty. Harveyby HarveyC - Reprappers
If you have (or can set up) 5 usb ports on your PC and your printers can print directly from on board sd cards, then I think you should be able to do it. Each printer will get a different serial port number on your PC and you should therefore be able to address each one individually by selecting the appropriate com port number, you should then be able to set up the print job from the printers intby HarveyC - Reprappers
I'm not sure what is meant here, but if this helps all well and good... On Windows 7/8, the profiles are stored in folders under c:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Slic3r (there is a folder there for filament, print and printer). There is also a file called slic3r.ini which holds data on last used profile etc. Hope this helps. Harveyby HarveyC - Slic3r
I think you will find that the version of slic3r provided with the repraprpo software distribution IS the 32 bit version, If not you should have installed the alternative version of slic3r into a different directory and then changed proterface's settings to point to it. I suggest that you uninstall the whole thing then start again, and if you want to use a different version of Slic3r install it iby HarveyC - Slic3r
I have the same machine and originally sufferred from the same problem, but I have now partially overcome it. I had a similar problem with my ReprapPro Mendel and I had to fiddle with the offsets set by the G10 command to get it correct. This is the procedure that I used :- 1)Set up the offset for the primary extruder ( I have 3 extruders in mine) using M206 x Y such that when you issue G1 X1 Y1 F the primary extruder noxzzle is over the bed position of X1 Y1 then save it with M500. 2)Set up the offsby HarveyC - Reprappers
In regard to your query about my comment on the bed size parameters in Slic3R, I am quoting from manual, which under 'Printer Settings, Size and Coordinates', states that the 'Bed Size' setting is taken from the wizard and is only used for previewing the model in the plater'. Also (and I hope this is not adding to the confusion!!) I should have said earlier, that with the ReprapPro Mendel at leaby HarveyC - Slic3r
Centering the print on the bed ... that brought back some memories to me, and I have just looked up my notes. I too had problems with getting the print centered on the bed, and in the end, in spite of what I said earlier, I did not set my primary nozzle to 'all zeros' in the G10 command, but set the G10 command so that the object was printed centrally on the bed, I then set the offsets on the oby HarveyC - Slic3r
You need to set the offsets with a G10 command not M218. The format of the G10 command is:- G10 Pn Xn Yn Zn Where:- P is the number of the extruder (1st extruder is P0) X is the x offset for this extruder Y is the Y offset fopr this extruder Z is the z offset, but (at least on my Reprap Pro Medel Tricolour) this is normally set to 0 as the z offset is set by the z limit switch. You can reorientate the object about its axes by importing the stl file into a 3d package such as Blender or Freecad etc., then export it back to stl format. I do this quite regularly with Blender and it does it very well. I have a Reprap Pro Mendel Tricolour and use Slice3r to do all of my slicing, using Pronterface to manage the printer.
