100m is about 850g.by JoeDaStudd - General
I found OpenSCAD different from what I've been used to using (ok tinkered with) for modelling, but after about half an hour I really fell for it. Its great for creating quick designs from a rough sketch and dimensions. I suppose doing a lot of web design/coding I'm used to writing a page then only viewing when I'm done or need to check something. With the scripting language very similar to C andby JoeDaStudd - General
With a small print like a 20mm cube you'll want to lower the temperature as much as you dare (I've heard people dropping to 150C (I think it was 150C) with pla for small gears). You'll also want to lower the speed also, as the layers won't have time to set before the next layer is applied causing issues. This is done in Skeinforge (ps Slic3r is much easier for a beginner).by JoeDaStudd - General
I brought some filament from FilamentPrint a few weeks ago. I've been meaning to do a full review, but things came up so I've still not do one. Here's a quick one; Pro's Cheap Good customer service Free samples Good delivery times Con's 4032D, meaning its fairly brittle and requires a lot more heat (210C for my config) then 4042D/4043D Oval. Not terribly bad, but bad enough. The colour fades whby JoeDaStudd - General
The jhead is very straight forward to assemble and use. I have v2 and for a newbie like me it was very easy to get up and running. 3mm is generally cheaper per kg and easier to get hold of (varies depending on location). 0.5mm is tiny, well at least it seemed like it to me, anything smaller would have been rather hard to start with.by JoeDaStudd - Reprappers
What did you buy from them?by JoeDaStudd - General
There's a WIP android app, link using bluetooth though. Slicing would be rather slow due to the specs of the current tablets.by JoeDaStudd - Controllers
Thats the sort of thing I was looking for from the circuit design and pcb routing side of things. I'm mostly looking for a good tutorial site with a reference (or even just a good reference site) section on general electronics so I can refresh my memory.by JoeDaStudd - Controllers
I ended up buying another stepper driver. I will test the trimpot tonight though. Thanksby JoeDaStudd - Controllers
Hi, I've got a few projects which I want to complete however my electronics knowledge is a little lacking. I did do systems and control (electronics) back in my school days (surprisingly I passed the gcse with a , but that's over 6 years ago. Literally the only electronic things I've done since then has been the odd bit of soldering (I did manage to solder a RAMPS 1.4 board ) or replacing a resby JoeDaStudd - Controllers
You also need to add tax (vat) to any of there prices. There was a few different people selling ramps 1.4 in the eu late last year but they seem to have vanished. Dont bother with the diy kit from reprapworld as its a pain in the neck 3 of the leds were 0603 (damn small) and the headers where the wrong size (required sanding/filing). All in all it wasnt a pleasant expierence when I build the kiby JoeDaStudd - Reprappers
Marlin has support for basic displays as well as the hacked interface/controller module. So it would probably be the best place to start firmware wiseby JoeDaStudd - General
Yep I have plans to use a Raspberry Pi as a host. Adding a cheap webcam (and possibly a decent digital cam for stills) and a digital smoke detector (so it can call/email me should anything go wrong). That way I could be a could completely stand alone and monitored/controlled via a nice web interface. Hell you could even put them in a shed with solar panels and just run them at next to no cost.by JoeDaStudd - General
2 one for each Z rod. If you want you can try the new (well newish) printed couplings nophead designed, they are more then good enough to start with. You can leave it running, but a smoke alarm is always advised. 5lb will last a while. Its about 5 prusa sets or about 8 huxley sets.by JoeDaStudd - General
Check the belts are tight enough then measure it again. You need to be exact. You shouldn't really need to change the X,Y or Z settings without your using non standard belts/pulleys, different microstepping or different thread on the rods. If its covering less distance then it should first check the stepper motor drivers. As for calibrating E this blog post has a brilliant explanation.by JoeDaStudd - Reprappers
What operating system are you using?by JoeDaStudd - Reprappers
Copy all the like for like settings from Sprinter then take your time reading through the other settings. I made the transition this weekend and my prints look a lot cleaner and more fluid (circles are beautiful now).by JoeDaStudd - General
I think the aim is to move away from the standard printed pla bushings to the lm8uu printed bushings (making it very easy to upgrade).by JoeDaStudd - General Mendel Topics
The trouble is the enclosed, user friendly and supported printers sell for £1000/$1500+ online. Add the costs of having a stall or store in a place like a mall and your easily adding another 30% to the cost. In the current economy not many people have that kind of money to throw around.by JoeDaStudd - General
When you run a local installation (netfabb studio basic) it classes the errors as Degenerated triangles (creates holes) and Mannifold edges (get split). Anyway my tool chain is currently OpenSCAD -> netfabb studio -> Slic3r -> Pronterface -> Marlin I literally only just changed to Marlin last night from sprinter. The prints seem more fluid and the circles are a lot more circley.by JoeDaStudd - General
Opps the £350 figure is without printed parts, $562 usd in gbp is £357 which includes delivery. The full kit is £430 ($675). Although the cost of printing a set of parts is very low and the kit does come with 100m of 1.75mm PLA (just over the amount needed to print a set), so I'm sure if you found someone local with a RepRap, makerbot or similar they'd be willing make a deal.by JoeDaStudd - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
I was going to note the price as well until I read what it includes. *RepRap Huxley kit *2 nights accommodation *All food *All the tuition The Huxley kit is worth £350 alone. £338 for a room for 2 nights, 3 days worth of food and all the tuition its reasonable. Heck if there's 3 of you its only £150 each for rooms, food and tuition.by JoeDaStudd - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
I think apart from the bar clamp all the other files are good to go. The attached file fixes the hole size issue as well as centring the side hole.by JoeDaStudd - General
Check the issues listed on the github first. I printed off a set (8...) of bar clamps last night only to find out they were too small due to a bug.by JoeDaStudd - General
I'd love to see how nophead's mendel90 takes high speeds as it looks very rigid and base heavy unlike most other printers which tend to be more top heavy.by JoeDaStudd - General
RAMPS is far more user serviceable and expandable. With Gen6 if a stepper driver goes the easiest solution is to replace the whole board. With RAMPS you just pop in another stepper driver. As its more expandable it gives you the option to stock more items like heated beds, SD Ramps and stepper drivers. In my eyes the best electrical solutions at the moment are RAMPS, Gen7 and Sanguinololu.by JoeDaStudd - Controllers
It would be possible to make those additions however the test code would either have to be in 2 sections (1 for the main code and 1 for the thermistor tables) or one long and not very user friendly section. Have you installed a firmware onto your RAMPS board? If not that's your issue.by JoeDaStudd - RAMPS Electronics
Check out local pla and abs suppliers before picking the hotend input diameter. 3mm is generally easier to get hold of, but it varies a lot depending on location. Personally I wouldn't use RepRapWorld for electronics, I didn't have much fun with there RAMPS DIY kit. The stepper motors they sell are 2.5amp so you'll only get about a 1/3 of the listed torque ~18n-cm.by JoeDaStudd - General
1. Why would you want to? 6. You just have to recalulate the steps per mm and change the pulleys to match the belts. 7. Its best to babysit the first few layers, after that your ok to do other things. I'd still want a way (or someone) to be local to the printer thought as its 160C+ tempatures and for quite a lot of people custom power supplies.by JoeDaStudd - General
