Demented----- I do not have the skate bearings yet as I might be revising some of the designs. It will not be a problem getting them tho. Either from RRRF or one of the local 8 or so skate shops. NewPerfection----- I will also be posting this on the main blog if I get accepted to it. I will be posting plenty of photos too. They will be high quality with good lighting as I am a professional photby SCphotog - Reprappers
A quick note on the Ebony Star laminate. It is manufactured by Wilsonart Laminate and is part of their premium line. The product number is 4552-90. We use it in the astronomy world as a better bearing surface than what comes stock with our dobsonian telescopes. The loads that are places on top of this Laminate to PTFE bearing are anywhere between 30-75lbs and while it sees more bump-stop-bump-by SCphotog - Reprappers
Yesterday I bought most of the materials for my McWire build that you can purchase at a hardware store. I got the iron pipe from Home Depot as it was almost $13 cheaper than Lowes. They had everything in stock but the guy working the plumbing dept. told me that they could cut me any length I needed and thread it for me on the spot at no additional cost. I bought a full sheet (4'x8') of neon greby SCphotog - Reprappers
I have been hoping to see the complete electronics kit come back in stock over at rrrf. anyone know if they will ever come back in stock?by SCphotog - Controllers
The knurled roller Idea is pretty good. I would worry about flattening the filament though. I will model a few designs in Alibre later today and post them.by SCphotog - General
If someone can get me some measurements of the plastic components of both versions of the extruder I will be more than happy to help model some and output to STEP files. This would help take some of the load off of Wade. I am also willing to model any of the reprap related plastic parts and output to STEP files as long as someone supplies me with measurements.by SCphotog - 3D Design tools
I opened the darwin files that are in the source forge download in alibre with out the converter.by SCphotog - 3D Design tools
On a side note I downloaded the Darwin parts from Sourceforge and I can open them all in Alibre and edit and export to .stl I also downloaded the alibre to google sketchup exporter. This could be handy too.by SCphotog - 3D Design tools
Wade, I just downloaded this Its a .stl importer for Alibre and you get 10 free .stl imports before you have to either delete the program or buy it. between the 2 of us we should be able to cover the darwin parts. YOu pick 10 you want to convert and I will do the next 10. I know this does not solve the long term problem but it will get the darwin parts into alibre for editing which we caby SCphotog - 3D Design tools

It looks like this is Alibre .stl importer has a free trial.by SCphotog - General
Wade in Alibre go to Tools> Options> File Types then choose STL. It would seem from that option that Alibre is capable of outputting to STL.by SCphotog - General
Having nothing to do for a few days really does make the brain come up with some good ideas. Here is a link to the hand drawn concept. First I will explain the parts. Each number corresponds with its respective arrow on the image. I will try and get a technical drawing up after some discussion. 1. Archimedes Screw 2. Hopper 3. Screw shaft 4. Top skate bearing holder 5. Second skate bearby SCphotog - Mechanics
In Alibre there is an option for .STL files. Its under Tools> Options> File Types> Configure File Types. Just change the file type to STLby SCphotog - General
IF you find the files in a format that will work with Alibre please let me know. I forgot about Alibre's hobby license. I am heading that way now to download it.by SCphotog - General
Tried to used the jump feature and 6 out of the 8 times I tried I got this error: Software error: whitespace in file name component at /var/www/reprap/htdocs/lib/TWiki.pm line 3263.by SCphotog - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Brian hold off on turning my drive screw. Wade is going to be making me some Mk 2 extruder parts and I may need the Drive screw be direct drive instead of cable drive.by SCphotog - For Sale
Wade $20 is perfect. I wont be able to get the $$ to you until after Christmas tho. I leave for my Mothers home tomorrow and will not be back until the 28th. So no rush on my parts. These use the direct drive screw right?by SCphotog - General
I have no idea what they would be worth. How much plastic goes into a set? Whats the time to print them? What would you feel as a fair price for the parts. I do not want to low ball you with an offer.by SCphotog - General
There is a member in the for sell section that is selling the machined extruder parts for a little over $30 plus shipping. I added my name to the list for a set of them so I have the mechanical parts covered. All I need is the plastic parts that make up the rest of the extruder. Would you mind printing a set of extruder parts Wade?by SCphotog - General
I may work on it slowly as I build my mcwire. Sketchup is kinda confusing to make some parts with. Take for instance the 4" pipe flange in the model I posted. I got 3 out of the 4 mounting holes to show as holes but the 4th would not let me delete the "surface" for that particular hole. I use to have Alibre Design when I was in college but as I graduated I had the hard drive the install was on faby SCphotog - General
What about the cast parts? I seem to remember reading a thread on here about cast extruder parts when I first got interested in reprap. Anyone have a mold I could borrow for a few weeks?by SCphotog - General
I have my name on the list for the machined parts a member here is making but I see no where to buy the extruder plastic parts from. Anyone have a link to who is selling them or anyone care to print me a set for a reasonable price? BTW BitsforBytes is not taking orders.by SCphotog - General
Add me to the list for a kit. I will be paying for it as I do not have a working machine to print you any thing.by SCphotog - For Sale
I was talking about the older xerox style office copy machines. I was reading on someones diy CNC blog where they said that they salvaged some NEMA 17 sized steppers from it.by SCphotog - Controllers
It seems simple enough to modify the McWire design to use NEMA 17 sized steppers instead of the NEMA 23's that are listed. This would save a good deal of $$ and after a quick google search the NEMA 17 size motors are all over the place and can even be salvaged from older copy machines. Then you could work on modifying the Darwin motor mounts to fit 17's and have the McWire print them. Has any oneby SCphotog - Controllers
Good to hear that it is the basically the same thing. Does anyone know when the full kit will be back in stock?by SCphotog - Controllers
My apologies to Mr. Teeter. I am accustomed to the phpbb and vBulletin style message boards where the URL is displayed in full. Thanks for the welcome Wade. Thanks for the link Mr. Higgs.by SCphotog - General
Just thought some might like this base modeled in sketchup so things can be added and ideas tested before a build. The model is 1:1 scale and follows the diminsions posted in the McWire build page. I will host the file for a few weeks but would for someone to add it to the McWire SourceForge file. Screen capture of the model. .rar file containing the sketchup file (just right click and save aby SCphotog - General
I am new to the whole Arduino modular system. In all honesty I have only built simple circuits and never went more technical than a 555 IC. Last month I purchased a Arduino Duemilanove in hopes of using it to control a custom Christmas light show on my Christmas tree. I dropped that idea because it looks like I will be spending the week leading to Christmas and the week after at my mothers placeby SCphotog - Controllers
