Nice job on that bed. It really came out great. Of all the printer upgrades I have done, switching over to the aluminum/silicone heat pad has been the most gratifying so I know what you mean.I haven't been able to print directly to the aluminum and still use PET & blue tape.I was hesitant to rough up the surface with a scouring pad. I'll look into PEI sheet. Rayby Shank man - Printing
There's not much activity over here so I'll chime in. Disclaimer first. I don't have either style of printer but I think both look to be fine printers. The x rods on the PM3 makes it a whole lot easier to add a second extruder than the side by side ones on the mendel90. There are more designs out there for a dual extruder carriage for the PM3. I have a Prusa2 which has a similar x axis setup toby Shank man - General Mendel Topics

Hello, There is a good reason people aren't building the Darwins and the Sells Mendels anymore because they are old designs and there are better and newer models out there to be had. I think the I2 falls into this same category. I built my I2 about 4 years ago and at that time it was what people were building. This was before the proliferation of cheap Chinese I3's hitting the market. Theby Shank man - Reprappers
Quotesdavi Recently saw some 5XC listed on this site: www.smw3d.com That's perfect. I would have never found it. Many thanks Ray.by Shank man - General
QuoteDust This is the 5x board I seen that but it's not in stock with no estimated ship date. I tried contacting them but can't seem to get a reply. Thanks anyway though.by Shank man - General
Hello. I'm looking to get the 5X board. I need one for a dual extruder setup. The only seller I can seem to find is Uberclock but they only have the 4X and I can't get a response about delivery on the 5X. Is there another seller out there? Is it easy/possible to add another driver to the X4? I'll do it if I have to. I'd really prefer to buy a preassmbled one though.by Shank man - General
I live in an apartment complex where maintenance considers rubber bands and duct tape to be the crucial items in their tool box. They expected two 8-32 screws with no other support to hold that fan in place. I have my printer on a kitchen table and thought nothing of the fan above it ever falling. I could go on and on about this place.by Shank man - Extruded Aluminum Frames
While I was finishing up a print a 40lb ceiling fan broke free from the mounting box and came crashing down on my printer. I'm fortunate that the printer suffered no other damage than the X getting knocked out of line. I cleaned up the glass, re-aligned the X and it was back to printing in less than 20 minutes. Had this been a MDF or acrylic framed printer i would be shopping for a new prby Shank man - Extruded Aluminum Frames

I've used this cold vapor method with favorable results. It may use a little more acetone but its a whole lot safer than heating up a flammable liquid. cold vapor methodby Shank man - General
I ran across this Reddit link and wondered if doubling up the Z axis drivers was feasible? for those of us that are using 2 Z-motors that is. I thought it was kind of interesting. I've been using 2 motors for years and never had a problem but I'm always looking to do pre-emptive strikes to prevent problems from occurring in the first place. the instructions are about 1/2 way down the page undernby Shank man - Reprappers

It took longer than I had expected but I managed to get both printer beds swapped out to ones with aluminum plates. It was definitely worthwhile to make the transition. First and foremost is the faster heat up time. To get the old PCB heaters up to 110 took about 17 minutes. These new ones get up to that temperature in less than 1/2 the amount of time. I have also seen the consistency of the teby Shank man - Look what I made!

Hi, a possibility would be a line in your slicer start up g-code. Look for a nozzle lift command and remove it. Oddly enough it doesn't lift but causes the nozzle to override the end stopby Shank man - General

Perfect timing on that write up! I'll be swapping out my glass/MK1 PCB to the aluminum/silicone pad heater this weekend.I've been wavering on making the change for about a year now but that thermal image you posted made for a very convincing argument. I worry about the 8.5" x 8.5" x 1/4" jig plate being a little heavy. But since all of the material has been bought and delivered I may as well gby Shank man - Look what I made!
hello, I had the same problem and solved it by removing this line in the start g-code. I was using Slic3r G1 Z5 F5000; lift nozzle (see pic) also having the auto bed leveling activated in your firmware (if you don't have ABL ) will produce similar results. Rayby Shank man - Printing

Hello, yes I use the newer version of the Wades extruder. Most J heads hotends are suitable too. But the ones from from hotends.com are the best. Printing is more fun when you don't have to be constantly clearing out jams. Respectfully ,Rayby Shank man - General Mendel Topics

Hello, I am looking to replace my trusty Ramps set up and have found a lot of discussion about the Smoothie board and Duet controllers but not too much on the Azteegs. I'm in the U.S. so that rules out the Duet so I've narrowed down my choices between the Smoothie board and the Azteeg X5. The Azteeg does have some very impressive stats. I'm a big fan of the PM2 but would recommend the 3. It's easier to upgrade, it accepts a greater variety of hotends and overall it is a just a better design. Maybe consider a Delta also.by Shank man - General Mendel Topics
