I posted this on the software forum and didn't get any answers but I believe that it is actually a firmware issue so i will try here Here's the problem. I can jog all three of the axis and they move both directions correctly but, when I hit one of the home buttons, the axis just jerks back and forth where it is sitting. Also, blocking the endstops doesn't seem to have any effect. I can still jogby ksmith5135 - Firmware - mainstream and related support

I just bought a couple of stepper drivers that were advertised as being a straight drop in replacement for the ones that came with my Sanguinololu. The problem is that the new ones use the Allegro A4984 chip and, according to the datasheet it only allows microstepping to eighth steps. My Sanguinololu board came with all three of the jumpers already soldered in place to enable sixteenth steps.by ksmith5135 - Sanguino(lolu)
Yes, they are both set to 19,200. I mentioned that I had this working on Linux with the Reprap software so I should clarify that I have not been able to get the Reprap host software working on the windows machine. I suspect some mismatch in the versions of Java but I didn't bother pursuing is since both Pronterface and Repsnapper were available for Python. My old Linux machine has died with muby ksmith5135 - Reprappers
I have just completed my Mendel which uses the Techzone gen3 remix electronics. I have been unable to get the host software on my WinXP workstation to connect to the printer. The Arduino IDE connects just fine and uploads the firmware but I get problems with both Repsnapper and Pronterface when I try to connect. From Pronterface I get a "cannot open port COM1, access is denied" message and froby ksmith5135 - Reprappers
I am a noob with a problem. I have a Mendel that uses the Techzone remix of the gen3 electronics. I have been able to connect using the Arduino IDE and have loaded the firmware on the main board and the extruder board with no problems. When I try to connect using Pronterface I get a message that says "can't connect to port COM3, Access is denied" I think that this means that Pronterface thiby ksmith5135 - Skeinforge
Thanks for getting the info on the WIKI Sebastien. I know that I agreed to do that some time ago but I never actually got it done.by ksmith5135 - Powder Printing and Selective Laser Sintering
Hi Johnrpm, it's great to see that you are taking this project on. A while ago I started collecting all the powder and binder liquid formulations that I could find so I would have them when I (eventually) build my own powderbed printer. Most of them are from Mark Ganter and his students at UofW. I have put them all into a single document and posted it on googledocs. You can take a look at itby ksmith5135 - Powder Printing and Selective Laser Sintering
This is an interesting idea but it seems a bit pricey at $6.34/lb. You wouldn't want to build anything very large with it. Filling a bin large enough for an 8.5 x 11 in. print area would be very expensive. On the other hand, perhaps we could figure out the components and create a recipe for mixing the powder ourselves.by ksmith5135 - Powder Printing and Selective Laser Sintering
I second this request. Mike and I have been in communication and have also discovered at least one other kindred spirit in the area. I'm sure that more will turn up if we can create a place to connect. A forum for a "Regina, Saskatchewan RUG" would probably be best. There is another University in Saskatoon, to the north of us, which will probably develop it's own group eventually. Thanksby ksmith5135 - Saskatchewan RUG
Thanks for the correction. I am overwhelmed with mortification at my error. :-) I have actually solved my own problem so I might as well post what I have found. It might be of help to others trying to assemble Adrian's extruder outside of the UK. Conrad.de have the part and also ship worldwide (thanks for pointing me there). It is actually the other version that I have parts for. The wiki page is: It uses a commercially available brass insert to get around the need for machining. (except it doesn't appear to quite as commercially available as I would like)by ksmith5135 - Mechanics
I am building an extruder to Wade's design. I bought the printed parts, the bearings, shaft and bolts. As usual, there is one critical piece that I can't locate. I have been unable to find the brass insert that he uses as the heart of the design. All the inserts that I find from many different companies do not have the ribbed (gear) shape that is used to catch and move the filament. There areby ksmith5135 - Mechanics
Thanks for the replies. I will check with my machinist resources for a gear puller. I have used them when working on cars but I didn't realize that they made them this small. I considered heating up the gears but I wasn't certain what heating the shaft would do to the motor. also, the gears are plastic with a metal insert so it would be a smelly and messy job to burn off the gear and then heaby ksmith5135 - Mechanics
I bought 4 Nema17 steppers from ebay. they work fine but they already have gears attached and I don't know how to remove them. There is no set screw and I haven't been able to pry them off with gentle pressure so I am at a loss. There seems to be a metal insert in the centre of the plastic gear, perhaps it is force fit onto the shaft? These are single shaft motors so I can't clamp the rear shaby ksmith5135 - Mechanics
Sure, but I would probably leave out the copyrighted pictures. I must admit however that I really don't know where to start. I have no idea how to create a wiki page. There, my technical ignorance is exposed to all the world! Mock me as you will!by ksmith5135 - Powder Printing and Selective Laser Sintering
I have gathered together a number of recipes for mixing up your own printing powders and put them in a Word document. None of this is my own work. Most of it comes from the group at Open3dP at the University of Washington but there are a couple from other sources. I put this together just to have it all in one place. I bought one of those sets of molded parts from the fellow in Ireland. They are extremely rough but usable except for the gears, which are complete crap. I would like to just buy a set of drive gears but McMaster Carr does not ship to Canada and SDP/SI, my parts place of choice here, does not have a gear that is directly comparable. How do I figure out what gears would work. I realize that itby ksmith5135 - Mechanics
The ability of the Edrawings viewer to view measurements is dependent on how the file is saved when it is created. we should be able to view measurements in the EPRT format but the files may have to be created again. I have been looking at the edrawings viewer and found the following information regarding mesurements: Measurements The ability to measure in eDrawings requires two things: 1)Tby ksmith5135 - General Mendel Topics
Great stuff! Your machine looks great. I take it that you used a friend's set to make the molds since you are building your own from the molded parts. I missed out on the first set you listed but I will continue to bid on your upcoming auctions and hopefully will manage to win one. From 10 sets you look to make several thousand Euros - good for you. It's the first one to market that wins outby ksmith5135 - Plastic RepRap Parts for Sale

can you post a picture of the completed Mendel that you built with the cast parts? How fast can you produce these parts. There is a big demand out there, if you can supply it you should be able to make quite a bit of cash.by ksmith5135 - Plastic RepRap Parts for Sale
There is also a set of thick sheet parts on Ebay right now with a BuyItNow price of only $33. They are birch plywood and have an alluminum build surface inset.by ksmith5135 - General Mendel Topics
I discovered the same problem. I had assumed that the "measure" function was not enabled in the free version of the eDrawings viewer. I understand that you can use Blender, which is a free 3d editing package, to load and view them but you need to add a python script called "Caliper" to get measurements. I am new to Linux and am having problems getting that script loaded properly. If you areby ksmith5135 - General Mendel Topics
That is a good point. I actually stayed in the bidding up past $450 for just that reason. Whoever picked them up definitely purchased some bragging rights along with the parts. I am now following the Fleming brothers blog and looking forward to the publication of your design. It probably represents my best chance of getting a Mendel in the short term. Thanks Sebastian, That is pretty much the conclusion that I had come to as well. It is actually apparent from various blog and forum posts that parts are getting printed and machines are getting built. It's just that the parts are not yet becoming available to the larger market. I was amazed to see Adrian's set go for over $600 CAN. It just shows the demand that exists out here. It is reallby ksmith5135 - General Mendel Topics
Yes, it is frustrating to be sitting here with some $600 invested in parts but still being unable to build anything. My queries on various forums about RP parts aren't even answered and the only places that advertise the parts are out of stock and have been for months. HI there, I am in Regina, Saskatchewan and I have collected all the parts for my Mendel except the RP ones. There doesn't seem to be anyone locally who has a working printer so I thought that I would try your group. I was looking at how high the bidding was getting on ebay for the set of Mendel parts. It quickly grew too rich for my bank account and I realized that it was approaching the cost of a micro milling machine. It occurred to me that I might just as well buy a mill and make the parts. Then I would also have a mill to convert to CNC later or just sell off to recover costs. While researching millby ksmith5135 - General Mendel Topics
