I second Nudel Superlube can be hard to source from a local store but is the best I've tried, as far as grease is concerned.by Buback - General
the benifit of servos is that they can be made to go back to their set position every time you turn on the machine (with, i imagine, some type of control curcuit). So, as long as the machine hasn't changed, everything should be level and alligned, even if you have to set the inital allignment manually. Of course, if you are skipping steps or the leadscrew is binding, you'll still have problems bby Buback - General Mendel Topics
Great writeup and instructions on your blog, btw! Everything looks awesome!by Buback - General Mendel Topics
Unrelated to the health aspects; Seeing as even some cheap PLA or ABS filament, meant for re-melting, has filler mixed into it, I would expect trimmer line to have lots of impurities, seeing as there's no need for pure nylon, and gritty filler might make it even better for cutting grass. The aggravation might offset the cost benefits.by Buback - General
Looks great! I guess my next big design project will have to be working on prism specific axes.by Buback - General Mendel Topics
Congrats and thanks for the upgrades!by Buback - General Mendel Topics
Along those same lines, you could laser-cut sheets of metal-wicking mesh, stack them, and then impregnate the mesh with metal.by Buback - General
I would think such a small droplet would cool off before it hit the surface (particularly the exterior, forming a shell), so it would just bounce like a bearing ball. You would also need to put the printer in a tank or container filled with shield gas, or even better, vacuum. Otherwise the parts will probably be rubbish anyway from oxidation.by Buback - General
I've been occupied elsewhere the past couple months, but I'm glad to see that Prism development is self-sustaining now! Excellent work, everyone! And thanks especially to Egenoup for his SCAD work.by Buback - General Mendel Topics
I guess the next step in evolution would be to replace the rack with a rigid chain actuator, so that the footprint of the printer is the same as with belts.by Buback - General

Excellent! First, check out this design for a mendelmax makerslide X: It might be a good starting point for you to progress from. And openSCAD would be greatly appreciated. My skills there are lacking so they won't be coming from me, but the basic frame parts shouldn't be difficult at all. Motor mounts and rod holders might be a little trickier. All the parts are on Github, if you want to forkby Buback - General Mendel Topics
Importing them unfortunately usually creates really dirty, messy models with way too many triangles and lots of broken faces. You will probably spend as much time fixing the model as you will modifying it. You won't be able to just double-click or drag-n-drop the file into sketchup, either. You have to go to file>import. Then select the STL importer in the "files of type:" drop down box. Youby Buback - 3D Design tools
it's almost the 30th. Any last minute changes anyone wants to suggest?by Buback - Developers
it defiantly looks like a seam caused by the extruder making the same movements on each layer. try enabeling the jitter plugin, which will move the end of the path around on each layer. you'll still have a bump probably, but it will be distributed around the model instead of all in a line like that. *edit* i've never used sfact so am not sure if it has the jitter plugin, but skeinforge does.by Buback - General
Excellent! Great job! Now the Prism is an upgrade path for both Prusa and Sells mendels!by Buback - General Mendel Topics
The best of both worlds would be a SCAD WYSIWYG editor. I don't like having to write the code myself, but I don't mind using the format at all as a way to transfer models. Of course, WYSIWYG editors are usually pretty terrible, but if it got me 90% of the way, then I probably wouldn't mind tweaking the code at the end to get the results I want.by Buback - General

I'm not a programer by trade, but i can read and edit code if need be. The problem i've found with editing others files is that some people write horrendous code. Being a code based format, clean and well thought-out code is just as important as the end product. That's not to say that other formats are much better, but a bad file in sketchup, for example, usually produces a bad end result. A SCAby Buback - General
looks great! hmm cable holders fit fine on mine (misumi). Those are the second attempt; the first were too tight, so I made them a bit wider. Pure scaling might make the plastic too thin, so maybe it'd be better to alter the sketchup file (unless that's what you did)? You can try making them taller, and move the sides in a bit so it grips the extrusion more. If you end up preferring a dual motoby Buback - General Mendel Topics

keep up the good work! And I must say, you're doing some pretty advanced sketchup designing. Bravo.by Buback - FoldaRap
Thanks! Yeah I always had a couple problems with my mendel stemming from my reluctance to go back and fix some initial assembly problems once the printer was all together. Yeah, that's a good idea about the extra tnuts. I'll put it in the wiki. I have some extra tnuts in there but they slide around every time i move the printer (though thankfully that isn't too often), but it just occurred to meby Buback - General Mendel Topics
elf Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I do not want to have to build an entirely new > machine every couple of years to take advantage of > the latest ideas. As you add parts, piece by piece, your eventually going to end up with a "new" machine. That's my experience. My machine today looks nothing like the machine I originally built. Doesn't look bad to me :-) For the tongue that goes into the extrusion groove: Will it print? I usually make it a 45 or greater degree angle so that it prints nicely, depending on the direction of printing. If a sharp overhang prints like that, it would be great, as it will help deal with some torquing forces when the part is put to use. The hardest part with adding onto the Prism is gettingby Buback - General Mendel Topics
First of all, This is silly "This entire page is a horrible, terrible idea, and you should be shot for creating it." I have no ill will against anybody in this forum. If you or anyone thought my words were heated or too antagonistic, I apologize. Regarding your point: I don't mind if it's an openSCAD standard or a blueprint plan drawing. My point was that even a .scad file describing a parametby Buback - Developers
