Don't google "induction heating", we're actually doing electric resistance heating here. (The induction heater comes into play when we start sinistering together metal powder ;-)by pica - Reprappers

I really could not find a good spot on the web that gave typical dimensions of NEMA motor frame sizes, so I dug into a bunch of high-torque Lin engineering PDFs and came up with the following: frame size bolt square body square NEMA size 8 .64” (16.4 mm) .80” (20.3 mm) NEMA size 11 .91” (23.1 mm) 1.1” (27.9 mm) NEMA size 14 1.02” (25.9mm) 1.3by pica - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors

I've searched the wiki, the forum and the web. Large plastic dealers don't tend to put a price per 50 lb bag on their website, and indeed may not even want to deal with someone who only wants a hundred pounds. I did find lots of distributers though. Before I winnow through those dealers, (and I'm essentially saying, "yes I know your time is valuable and you normally deal with shipping containeby pica - Plastic Extruder Working Group
You will also fork hundreds of dollars over to your reprap machine resource supplier. If you want an army of zombies to do your bidding, I'd perhaps think about making a mold in silicon from one non-copyrighted design. Aside from the UPS delivery mess-up (not the sellers fault), my invoice (copy in the box) clearly says 5 lb of white ABS. The box had 6.128 lbs of mostly black filament (one coil of white). So I've gotten an extra 22.5%. What do you all think? How much of a pain is it to have to swap rolls mid-print? What do you think about the substitution without even a courtesy email?by pica - General
Some links out there on the web point to reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page while others point to www.reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page. I noticed this when logging in to edit the wiki. We should pick one form for the URL and stick with it. If you go with, say, the one without the "double-you, double-you, double-you" in front of it, there should be a few lines in .htaccess to automatically redirect links from mby pica - Administration, Announcements, Policy
I'd guess there would be issues with rigidity when trying to mill on a Mendel. I'd also like to point out that the stock location for the electronics under the bed is a real poor location if you were using liquid coolant with mill work, mounting a large tank of deionized water for EDM, or making a lot of sparks doing arc cutting.by pica - Mechanics

My personal rule is that if there isn't a youtube video on it yet, the bugs are not likely to have been worked out. My unimplemented idea was to ether use fiber or steel reinforced hose (used for instance, brake lines in cars) with a PTFE liner (people who make those radio-control planes use this for fuel line.) This should allow you to put metal fittings on both ends without hitting a speed buby pica - Reprappers

Well, I stopped building my repstrap, and I started building my Mendel. We'll see if I pick up the repstrap after I start printing. I think I can document a "semi-strap" where there will be a large amount of the machine fabricated by hand, and only a few "tough" pieces get extruded. An example of poor documentation: Can you quickly point to where I can find out how far apart, on centers, theby pica - General
That is outstanding news. I myself didn't feel anything when I saw Darwin, became a forum member when I heard about Mendel, decided on a repstrap when I saw the prices, Delayed construction due to really lousy documentation [1], and decided to forge on with a standard Mendel when I noted the price drop a month ago. I just averaged 5 Reprap ABS parts kits (with extruder parts, with shipping included), by US sellers. The average was $195.50. Clearly if you want to build a Mendel, the price is going in the right direction. (I paid too much it seems, and had to email after three days to remind the guy to give me a tracking number. My auction was earlier, so it's no longer bringing up the average in my figurinby pica - General
With 5lbs of filament on the way, I'm up to $650.10 total. Most people would not count the inital consumbables, but what can I do without it? Expensive hobby. I still need the extruder heater, the optional heated bed resisters, two thermistors, and the end-stops. I'm thinking to breadboard the endstops. I'm reading the wiki too, but it's not all there. And what is in there isn't organized perfectly. And some of it is outdated. For instance, It would be great to be able to have a page that compared ATmega1280, atmega644, and ATmega328 based mainboards in a table-like format. That's essentially what I'm trying to wrap my head around right now. Right now I'm leaning toward the ~$50 Seeeduino Mega;by pica - General
