which software do you use to add the support to a so big stl file ? I can't import it in sketchup thank youby jf pion - Slic3r
I'm building an new mendel with very easily avaible parts. I use 20*20 square aluminum tube wall 1.5mm so i get an inner square 17*17mm. all the parts are from ABS printed on my prusa the size is slightly bigger than a prusa specially in height. I use 4* 10 mm threaded rod and 10mm smooth rods 3LM10UU bearings there is enough room for a double extruder no special part difficult to buy verby jf pion - General Mendel Topics
yes you're right more a new mendel, I looked on big mendel but I can't find the extruded aluminum part, and I want to use very common stuff. for the X carriage I want to add a small fan to cool the upper part of the hotend (get some pb with PLA and Budaschnozzle, so even if the jhead mk4 doesn't really need it ....) do you think it will cool the carriage enough ? I want to make it strong I thouby jf pion - Reprappers
I got exactly the same pb when I try to print with a 0.25 nozzle and 0.1 layer. the 3mm pla get soft and get stuck in the entrance hole (even if I have no gap except the conical entrance, it's where the molten pla get in contact with the cooler part and get hard again getting stuck ) I also got leaks I also got big difficulties trying to go back to 0.5 nozzle, the use of aluminum nozzle on a thby jf pion - Reprappers
As I found the prusa on the small side, specially on z, I designed one, slightly bigger with part from the local hardware shop: aluminium square tube 20*20 mm, 4 threaded rod 10 mm, smooth rod 10 mm 3lm10UU bearing and abs printed parts the picture of the project is joined the frame parts are mostly printed the frame is secure to the plastic parts with 3.9 parker screw the x axis get a vertiby jf pion - Reprappers
got the same pb on ramps, was the pug not plugged correctly anyway look like an electonic/electrical pb not a soft one (or may be a host configuration pb)by jf pion - Slic3r
slicer allow layer height equal to the nozzle size. I did some print with this setting, for structural part no need for high quality aspect, the print went quite well, (modulo the geometrical pb coming from earlier slicer version) anyway i will stay to 0.4 max with my 0.5 jhead thank you for the adviceby jf pion - Slic3r
ok but the option is not clear in what is it really done ! i understood it make a very light infill not that the height of the infill layer is a multiple of the perimeters height so i was wrong the wiki need really to be improved ! thank youby jf pion - Slic3r
When you try to print with thin layer to increase the print aspect, why not only use thin layer for the 2 outside perimeters ? for example if I want 0.1 high layer why not print the inner perimeters and infill and support to 0.4 high ? 0.4 for 0.2 layer 0.45 for 0.15 layer ? this way you could get the best of the 2 better surface aspect, better print speed also an option to have a parametricby jf pion - Slic3r
There is an interrogation about the real effect of the ratio: ok you want an 50% height ratio so your first layer will be 0.2 instead of 0.4 but is the plastic flow reduced accordingly or is it still the same ? if it is the same it means the layer will be over stuffed with plastic, better surface aspect but some blob on the first layer if any body could give the definite answer because it'sby jf pion - Slic3r

i try (again) to print but slicer fail at the "generating support" phase I try to low the resolution to very low level in case the 16 MB stl is too much for slicer. but even with this low resolution it fails at the "generating supports" phase As I've got enough memory, and slicer doesn't take so much of it, 2 threads, I don't know what's happening, may someone is able to find thank youby jf pion - Slic3r
as I said the stl export worked fine making one stl with all the parts and the slicing of the fusionned stl worked fine too so i could print without pb anyway this is a bug with an easy go around, but a bug so I report itby jf pion - Slic3r
it's in the advanced tab extrusion section there is an open issue about an automatic adaption of the width to avoid the hollow wall. for the moment you have to go with the width of print by tweaking it and try till you got the print rightby jf pion - Slic3r
I haven't that in slicer 8.4 windows version, win 7 64 bitby jf pion - Slic3r
when I tried to slice 4 parts from 0.4 layer 0.5 nozzle 5mm brim i got the joined image of the gcode a bit messy isn't it ? the stl export went fine and the atomatic slice from pronterface with slicer went fine too but the direct slice to gcode with the 4 stl files not a bug i think !by jf pion - Slic3r
when i try to print the joined stl 0.5 wide, 0.4 layer nozzle 0.5, infill 0 perimeter 1 i got the attached gcode when i look at it i can see: G1 X135.150 Y54.850 G1 Z0.640 G1 F1800.000 E1.00000 G1 X135.150 Y145.150 F1800.000 E3.55497 G1 X44.850 Y145.150 E6.10993 G1 X44.850 Y54.850 E8.66490 G1 X135.075 Y54.850 E11.21775 G1 F1800.000 E10.21775 G1 Z1.640 F5400.000 G92 E0 G1 X139.850 Y149.850 G1 Z0by jf pion - Slic3r
when I print the joined STL the outside size is correct on my printer (99.98 in X and 99.86 in Y) but the wall is far wider 5.5 instead of 5mm. if I print the 20mm cube i got 20 x 20 with a wall of 5.4 x and y direction instead of 5mm slicer 8.4 nozzle 0.5 layer 0.4 am I the only one with this problem ? could someone make a try to be sure it is not my printer (even if I can't see a mechanicaby jf pion - Slic3r

i will try do you try to slice it even with no support ? it work with 0.4 layer but not with 0.2 or 0.1 with no error message and no gcode generatedby jf pion - Slic3r
that"s a try to reduce the size of the stl with meshlab, not really sucessful , the original part is here : and slicer can't slice it with the support even after netfab (first thing I do know, lesson well learn) to bad i find it niceby jf pion - Slic3r
Yes it was generated with meshlab and the original from thingiverse, the scaled down one verified with nettfab can't be sliced with the support generationby jf pion - Slic3r
hello with 8.4 i tried to slice the joined stl ( from thingiverse, scaled down and re meshed with meshlab to lower the size of the stl (the full size doesn"t work ethier) without support it sliced it quickly but with a lot of geometrical abberation, with support it fail during the "generating support phase) hope this helpby jf pion - Slic3r

look like it's ok now I will go on with my try. I'l report problem if I found one thank youby jf pion - Slic3r
Could you compile the last version of skeinforge for Windows ? For an undetermined reason I can't succeed to make the python version to work on min Win7 64 /avast/comodofirewall your portable version is great ! p p p p please ! thank youby jf pion - Skeinforge
sometimes skeinforge generate gcode with negative Z, not a big deal but my kapton on the bed doesn't appreciate. I need to go via netfab basic to reset the part to origin as there is no real reason I can see, to start a print with a negative or positive Z is there a possibility to specify to SF to start at 0 ? (apart the positive Z for the height of the first layer) thank youby jf pion - Skeinforge
