Opening the attached STL in Peasant3D (Mac only!) it says that it is 24mm x 18mm x 10mm. Which print is accurate? Could be yours is and your 'official' part is wrong!by droftarts - Skeinforge
Have a look at the mendel-parts Extruder and software support forums, there's some good info in there too: I'm using an older version of repsnapper (r352M Darwin i386 - the last version that is able to be compiled for Mac OS X) and the extruder length settings expect the same calibration as older versions of Skeinforge (pre 40), so have to be turned right down if you have calibrated your Extrudeby droftarts - General Mendel Topics
Incidentally, I'm using Skeinforge 41, with my extruder set up so a 1mm move of the extruder (G1 E1) moves 1mm of filament INTO the extruder, not 1mm of extrude OUT of the hotend, which older versions of Skeinforge (pre v40) expect.by droftarts - General Mendel Topics
I have a Gen6 from Camiel controlling my RepStrap. I never had any success using ReplicatorG but find Repsnapper works fine, running on Mac OS 10.6.8. I think ReplicatorG expects to find the Makerbot electronics and a DC rather than stepper motor extruder, so uses lots of gcodes for that, which confuse the Gen6. M113 sets the extruder motor PWM - see the reprap gcode dictionary here: I think thiby droftarts - General Mendel Topics
My brother works for HP and saw one of these in action up in Reading (UK) about a month ago. I think it was the mono version, and it printed an adjustable spanner (one of their usual test pieces apparently) in one piece using a second material for support. He said is had very good detail, and after the support material was washed away it even functioned well. But he didn't bring it home for me toby droftarts - General
Don't worry ahmet, I think it's a great idea, and I'm sure most others will appreciate your work in time, just don't expect people to change overnight! I've had a rollercoaster ride getting SF41 working well, but am now pretty comfortable with it, with my settings pretty consistent. However, anything that trims away unnecessary complications and increases clarity is welcome. Are you liaising withby droftarts - Skeinforge
Nophead's new clamp (linked above in his post) solves most of the problems by using a 1/4" PVC tubing (available in pet shops/aquarium supplies) as a sleeve on the motor shaft. I can testify that this stuff grabs the 5mm motor shaft like a demon; I've built a MrKim 1X2 repstrap that uses this method to attach the Z axis threaded rods . In fact, it uses two bits of tubing, as it connects the PVCby droftarts - General
I spotted this on the BBC website today. Yummy! But no mention of Reprap I know various people have been working on icing/chocolate/metal extruders, so good work people!by droftarts - General
Ugh, that's a hack, giving users random numbers to multiply by to get accurate sizes. It just means that the firmware configuration needs changing. Otherwise you are having to do it each time for each axis, and when you're trying to be accurate with Skeinforge, predicting results becomes really difficult. I wouldn't even say 1.36 is accurate for you, as your pyramid was supposed to be 25mm high aby droftarts - General
Edit: okay, just read the bit on your blog where you talk about this! I've just noticed your Bowden cable connecting your extruder to the hot end on your blog - it's incredibly long. It's always going to cause problems with hysterisis, which is the compression of the filament and stretching of the tube, which means you'll need a lot of retraction to clear up stringers, but then leads to blobbingby droftarts - General
No worries, just get the calibration right and your prints should improve dramatically.by droftarts - General
I don't know! I never used the earlier Skeinforge, only v40 and 41. I think it's time everyone moved to the latest version, the disparity between the versions is causing huge support problems! In version 41 it is far simpler to set up the extrusion settings, and you set the flow rate and feed rate the same - it takes the guesswork out of it. Your flow rate is much higher than the feed rate. I wouby droftarts - General
Please ignore all of the above if you SCALED the pyramid DOWN. I hadn't thought of that! Though looking at your pictures, it does seem that your flow rate is high. The pyramid should have quite slim vertices. I have made it a couple of times. Are you using Skeinforge 40 or 41? I do, and have a Bowden cable (which generally needs more retraction than direct feed extruders) and my retraction distanby droftarts - General
It looks like you haven't set up the motor steps per mm for each axis in you firmware. This is part of the calibration process, and would make your pyramid print the correct size, and probably sort out Z axis and extruder problems - 25mm is a HUGE amount to retract! The pyramid is supposed to be 38.1mm (X) by 38.1mm (Y) by 33mm (Z). I did it like this: Open repsnapper (or other host software thaby droftarts - General

Hi Rook, hope that extruder is working okay too! I bought some PTFE heatshrink from RS online here I don't think there's much else but PTFE that can handle the heat near the hot end. Kapton tape will probably be okay to get it going. For the thermistor, I put on piece of PTFE tube over one leg, then the second slightly shorter piece over the first PTFE tube and the second thermistor leg. This prby droftarts - General
Hi MrKim! I've been a bit lazy about writing up my experiences for the wiki, as I have been moving house. I've now added longer 'dogbone' vertical arms and moved the X-axis motor and pulley to improve the Z-axis range of my 1X2, which has improved from 35mm to 95mm, allowing me to print the makerbot plates for Mendel Prusa, which I've just started. Generally it's holding up pretty well, and I'm gby droftarts - General New Machines Topics
Here's a picture of my setup (it has toothed belts now, much more accurate!), which has a Bowden cable held at each end by an M5 nut countersunk into the wood, with wide washers holding them in. I used PT1/8x3/16 tubing from . I also ordered some thicker-walled tubing, 3.2mm ID by 6.4mm OD, though it was easier to work with the smaller tubing, which performs fine. I have a Bowden cable of about 35cm on my repstrap, and find setting the Dimension -> Retraction Distance to around 2.5 to 2.75mm prevents most stringing. I have my feed rate set to 25mm/s - I could go a lot faster, but don't have any grub screws on my motor pulleys, so they can slip. I do still have a bit of blobbing, particularly in holes and when the Z axis moves, when it unwinds after a moby droftarts - General
Though I have a Gen6 board, the 'hold'ing of the motor spindles on power up is normal. This stops the axis being knocked and messing up positioning. It also happens to use a lot of power, so yes, your driver chips will get warm. The axis will not move (at least they don't on Gen6) if you don't have the axis limit switches (optos or microswitches) attached. The Z axis is usually not held.by droftarts - General Mendel Topics
There is the "Skirt" option in Skeinforge, where a box is drawn around the printed part. It's pretty useful for getting the extruder going before printing starts, and checking the nozzle isn't too close or far away on the first layer. No worries, Traumflug. I have printed the calibration object, watched the video, and downloaded and installed Openscad, and now need to change the calibration and start creating my own stls. Fair enough, I take all your points on board. Personally, I don't have a problem with it, I was just grumbling that people post models that are machine specific. I realise there are lots of hoops to jump through when you are an early adopter. My nephew read this thread and said he still wants to build one, so I guess I'll be the one to guide him! He'll pick it up quickly anyway.by droftarts - General Mendel Topics
As a noob, having researched, designed and built my repstrap, learnt how to use Arduino firmware software, calibrated my repstrap, grappled with Repsnapper and Skeinforge, the prospect of learning Openscad is not overly troubling. Thanks for the link to the video Bob, I will have a look at it when I have time and create my own stls. Having got my repstrap printing with reasonable accuracy, I have moved on to the next stage - starting to print a Reprap, in my case a Prusa. I downloaded the master from github, and printed the first makerbot plate as it is similar in dimensions to the abilities of my repstrap. This plate has the main vertices for the frame, three belt-clamps and a bar-clamp. I have checked that the size is theby droftarts - General Mendel Topics
