The rubber shipped last week once we got the minimum number of people to help pay for it. Next step is molding my pieces, and then we cast the parts!by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
@Andy We'll need to make a register down at the shop for those that would like to be in on a batch method and group build. I'll get it going and hopefully I'll see you soon in order to discuss further. I hope this is going to work out, I'm excited!by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
I've just resourced a batch of printed RP parts, and am ready to donate their use to clone into a RUG-wide batch of parts. As we'd discussed previously, we'll keep it to "at cost" so that we can lower the cost. Please let me know if you are interested! -Dby FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
Last week I started tinkering with a way to make a heated bed on the cheap. I've decided to use spare parts right now, and a PID from the Reuseum in lieu of a more intergrated approach. Here are some links that helped me thus far;by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
WE are looking to forma small team from the group to present at Boise Code Camp 2011, February 26th and 27th. They've offered to let us set up a table to print while we are their as well! Please respond if you would like to help us with this outreach! -Dby FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
It seems through consensus and ease of planning that we'll dedicate the 26th of February to RUG at the Reuseum. The last meeting started at 6pm, but since we seem to have a couple Mendels printing, and more in construction, anyone is welcome to arrive in the afternoon during store hours and set up at our worktables to build and print. Mark your calendars for the 26th!by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
@Vis0r -We got some 1/4" aluminum 21cm squares at the Reuseum as well for anyone who wants to collaborate on making heated beds. Available to only those who know the secret handshake...by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
As far as meeting at the shop, I have to base it around the circuit basics workshop that we are putting on at the REuseum, what about the 2nd or last Saturday in Feb? CidVilas just got Blue Mendel printing...its pretty.by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
Hey All, A tooth broke off of my spur gear before I could print a spare. The reason being that the teeth were hollow. :/ I prefer Nophead's version with the set screw, and would consider buying a few to make it worthwhile to anyone who might be interested in this. Thanks!by FrankNeon - Wanted
What design we all agree would be most effective for us to build as a group? Something like Ultimaker (yet to be released?) The Sells Mendel? (proven and available) The Prusa? (effecient and easy to build, yet to be popularly tested...) "Other" Repstrap? ...by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
Regarding the CNC mill that was shown on Saturday, we'll be having the CNC boot camp in June where we'll have a group build and make this type of mill. Keep in mind, that bootstrapping a CNC with an extruder has been a great and very popular way to intro into eventually making your own RepRap (see the RepStrap sections of the forums...) Reprap as of early 2010 did have a higher cost associatedby FrankNeon - Idaho RUG

Discussed were several ways for us to coordinate a way for individuals to build their machines and go step by step through the process together. Several designs were out there, each as capable as the next to print with comparable quality. Does anyone have suggestions or preferences on which design to pick for resourcing?by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
Forgot to mention that we'll be meeting outside of regular store hours and everyone can expect to collect at 6pm. You can also look at www(dot)reuseum(dot)com in our workshops blog.by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
The inaugural RUG meeting for Idaho will be held at the Reuseum on Jan 15th, 2011. All meetings are open for anyone to come by and see what is going on. Whether you want to build your own printer or just have a casual interest, all are welcome. Ideas as to what will be discussed remain pretty informal and ranged from the various ways one may arrange the hardware and software set-up, ideas forby FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
For some reason my z axis not disabling when not in use during prints and is overheating. This has caused it to start moving down, instead of up for each layer of a print and has torn up a couple hot ends. Can anyone point me towards code in the firmware or anywhere else so that I can identify what should be disabling the Z? I'm working with ReplicatorG, Gen3 Electronics. Thanks.by FrankNeon - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Idaho Reprap User Group. Regular meetings and general gettings together are held lately at the Reuseum, where one of two known Mendel Repraps resides in Idaho. If anyone living in Idaho would like to contact us, send a PM and we'll get into contact!by FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
Hey there, Talked a bit about making a local user group for Idaho, USA on the IRC. Just posting here to keep the idea alive. Thank you, Davidby FrankNeon - Idaho RUG
There is a new beta firmware out with ReplicatorG0019 that "includes" stepper support. I've since had more luck with printing good rafts and found more good advice on this wiki entry, Big points would be that there needs to be an initial line of M108 S255 in the gcode for setting the duty cycle, and that if I may self correct, it IS "R" instead of "P" is setting the RPM for the stepper motoby FrankNeon - General
I just recently met a guy who came into my shop and three months ago had undertaken the came project and wanted help automating his face mask. He has been using Pepakura papercraft and adding Bondo to the folded/glued paper, which makes a pretty solid suit. Building a printer to make a project this size seems like a tangent when affordable processes seem to be being applicated with some prettyby FrankNeon - General
I bought a PicoPSU off of Ebay and am using it with an old laptop power supply that lost its laptop long ago. Here's a link: Makes for great portability, and no mods required.by FrankNeon - General Mendel Topics
Correction on this information after visiting the ReplicatorG reference page for MCodes, M108 Sxxx should be replaced with M108 Pxxx. I had to rebuild my extruder and ran some tests today, and beyond being able to extrude plastic, I haven't had any luck with extruding during a print. Tomorrow I'll try 5D firmware and code from the Reprap host. But I still believe that there is some editing toby FrankNeon - General
I found this thread extremely helpful in editing the machine profiles included in replicatorG for a stepper driven extruder; Notably Gkaindl's excerpt of the machines.xml file and his explanation of what that does to the control panel in ReplicatorG. After implementing this mod I could run the extruder motor in tests, but strangely not in a real print. So I PM'd GKaindl and he helped me throuby FrankNeon - General
GKaindl supplied us with this addendum to the Machines.xml file in RepG and that at least helped me get the extruder spinning for tests; RepRap Mendel <!-- Z uses the same pulley, but is geared down pretty hard --> <!-- optional, defaults to first serial port found. COM1 --> <!-- required: we need 8 bit and 38400 baud. --> 384008 <!-- optional, defaults to 1.by FrankNeon - Firmware - mainstream and related support
I originally started with RepG firmware for the motherboard v1.2, and similar for the extruder controller, which has given me a couple headaches when incorporating a stepper motor for a Wade's NEMA 17 Extruder. Now that I've gained his feedrate settings from the wiki, I realize that I really want to go for the 5D firmware and the Reprap host software for my toolchain. The only problem is that thby FrankNeon - Firmware - mainstream and related support
GKaindl- Hey I've been working with Cid lately on our Mendels together and I've entered the specified settings you gave for the machines.xml file you gave. It revealed the RPM field in the RepG control panel and the stepper can spin for a little bit, but then begins to skip steps and freeze up/get the jitters. Any ideas of what I might not be doing correctly?by FrankNeon - General Mendel Topics
I'm also looking for a few hobbed bolts as replacement pieces for my extruder. If interested, please send me a quote on your cost. Thanks!by FrankNeon - Wanted
I have almost completed a Mendel and after mounting and wiring a Wade's NEMA17 extruder, there seems to be lots of noise between the extruder and my Z axis driver. The extruder stepper will pause intermittently and while its motor is running and/or the heater has a rising temp, no other motors will work. All of the activity LED's on the boards start to dim randomly. If I try to jog any axis iby FrankNeon - General Mendel Topics
James posted another video of his machine beginning to print a vertex. Printing a vertex piece I would like to see a pic of what the part looked like after the print process. A video of the *start* of a print can't prove a thing.by FrankNeon - For Sale
