Whatever you do, dont buy from TEchzoneCom. Their parts and approach are not professional. They do try their best to support after purchase, but its not worth the number of hours. Their kits are not a full solution. I had problems with their hot tip and had to buy a separate one for 50$ and still having difficulty mounting it on the small huxley. They also did not ship the correct powersupplyby owism8 - Reprappers
How did you mount the supports onto the x carriage. I drilled holes towards the ends of the xcarriage which looks very fragile. A Picture of how I did it is attached. There is one problem though that there is heat coming into the screws somehow which is causing the plastic to bend. Huxley is causing more problems than its worth. Any suggestions on a fix? I doubt anyone would subscribe to a physical print of this information when there is a MASSIVE amount of digital info out there. If there is any potential of a magazine, it should be done as an "E-zine" with free subscription supported by relevant ads. The written material should definitely include the experience of core reprappers like nophead and adrian and others who should have a column inby owism8 - General
well I have one and it died quick. What i mean by that is the plastic starts oozing out and pushes the brass tip out of the PTFE. Techzone wants you to fix that by putting a wood screw in it and everything should be fine. This requires some clamps and tools which I didnt have and had to purchase. Heres their description of it: I also went ahead and purchased an Adrian hot tip ( ) from theby owism8 - Reprappers
I am currrently using that cog and belt model for the z axis for the TEchzone huxley I have. I have no problems with it right now, just needt o make sure the gear that is on the motor is attached well by either a screw or glued onto the motor axle. Ive been having more problems with the hot-end than anything else. Techzone sends a difficient hot tip which is known to die very quickly and is knoby owism8 - Reprappers
Hey Brnrd, Here it is: Feed rate: 30 flow rate setting: 236 Orbital feed rate/operating feed rate: 2.08 travel feed rate: 20by owism8 - Skeinforge
Thanks Brnrd. The motor temps are fine. I believe its the heat from the hot-tip which is slowly bending my x-carriage. I need to purchase a fan. I will look into skienforge perimeters more. I read throguh the whole guide and made settings as I thought best. Which are the most important ones? Thanks for the encouragement. I am the only one within 3 hours driving radius who has a reprap. Hello All, Just a conclusion I'm coming to after all the hours I've put into my plastic huxley thus far. This is taking too long to fiddle with all the plastic parts because they are not capable of being used in this type of machine. The heat makes the x-carriage bend too much. The gears need to be permanently glued onto the motor axles a lot of working on skeinforge to make it work properlyby owism8 - General
This calls for a better company. Who amongst the Reprap community is dedicated enough to provide this service? The most important thing is development of good hot-tips.by owism8 - General
SF 38, because i didnt update my firmware yet. Its going REALLY slow. like 1mm a second . I think I did change that number. Is that the variable which will speed it up? Thanks!by owism8 - Skeinforge
Yeah my printer is going super slow in printing. advice? or other Gcode generators? I used 3dtoolchain.com made by a techzone programmer, but its been down for 2 days and thats unreliable, so i need to learn skienforge or any other option. Any settings advice for Techzone Huxley model? Thanks all.by owism8 - Skeinforge
I did download SF38, but I am still adjusting the numbers in all the gabillion categories Talk about variables... SF 38 does work, its just that I changed something and I have no idea what it was. I gotta take it back to defaults and work back again. I was using some guides online and I dunno where i ended up. I tried the calibration files on thingiverse: also this one: The only thing I'vby owism8 - Firmware - mainstream and related support

I am reconstructing the Techzone tip right now and instead of using the silicone cement mentioned herE: I want to use kapton tape. Will this increase the life of the tip? I've heard the nichrome is the issue? Anyone have any success with Nichrome? I did get my heater block, but I want to give the nichrome another shot before I try the heater block. Thanks all.by owism8 - General
I used loctite - the high temp one. before I did I grinded the motor shaft a bit. NO problems after that. See here:by owism8 - Huxley
Hey all. I was told by techzone to pop a wood screw into the PTFE to keep the brass tip on as shown here: I wanted to know does it work? before I give it a shot, obviously should ask the community. Thanks all.by owism8 - Huxley
Hey Brian, Which Sherline model did you buy, or advise for me to purchase for use in this reprap project? thanks. reifsnyderb Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hello, > > The all-in-one machine is for wood. @Jcabrer - Haven't you had issues of plastic oozing out of the PTFE tube and eventually making the brass piece slip out? Why don't you put a PEEK block there to hold it back? I've seen all the successful tips so far use this method, just wondering if you have overcome this issue some other way? Thanks jcabrer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Your post has iby owism8 - General
Thanks! Yeah i was waiting for pictures because that helps the most for myself and im sure to all others to visualize this contraption. Awesome. I'll try it out. Whats that blue wrap made of, or where can I acquire it. Also please put up a list of where you purchased the parts. For noobs like me, I'll need that! (reprap guideline: to allow this to be replicated by noobs ofcourse) Thanks Jcaby owism8 - General
heh, nice lol. Well since its home made, theres space for improvement to reduce any cracking. i want to see someone experiment this. I'll try it once I get a good reprap working and built with bugs out of it.by owism8 - General
Thanks all for the feedback. I'll look into it!by owism8 - General
Yeah theres a presentation on it at TED: I thought maybe we can just layout playdo for printing circuits instead of metal. Limitations in terms of long-term use right? Anyone ever try this?by owism8 - General
Could you give me a link for the arcol.hu hot end? The reason I chose huxley was first it was the cheapest kit out there to start off with. I reasoned that I would be able to make the larger printers after using this one. The second reason I chose huxley was because I teach in school, and it would be easy to transport back and forth if I want to show a demonstration to students or even at confby owism8 - General
Hello All. After watching this ted video about kids using playdo to make circuits I thought maybe we can just layout playdo for printing circuits instead of metal. Limitations in terms of long-term use right? Anyone ever try this? I might try it in my classroom. Thanks for feedbackby owism8 - General
To all the above: I plan on buying atleast a vice and using my dremil for drilling. Obviously this isnt the safest method, but as reifsnyderb said, you have to start somewhere. I've taken machining classes at RPI and used lathes and drills and all the jazz before, its really not too difficult a learning curve. I'll keep my budget at $2,000 for purchasing a drill, lathe. I currently have a huxley and really liked the way I could put it together (except for the X-axis carriage which has a weird brass tubing rubbing against the x axis rods, who designed that?) After I get a replacement extruder hot tip (the techzone one sux and is destined to leak out the plastic ) , I will print out another set of huxley pieces and make it have a larger print area.
