Hi! I have an Ormerod 1 that's been out of action for a looong time now. I'm trying to revive it and really don't know where to start. I have on old web interface loaded which doesn't load properly. I presume it was calling files from a cloud somewhere that are now gone. Any advice on where to start as a kickstarter would be so appreciated. I think really the bottom line is what firmware should Iby gregstah - Duet

So this is what happened after I started a 3d print last night....grrrrrrrr.... The linear X-Axis bearing slipped out of the print head after moving it back and forth this morning it randomly jams... the "jam" frequency increases considerably with smaller movements. One of my bed bearings does the same thing but I've forced by attaching a few cable ties... I've requested a new smaller one foby gregstah - Ormerod
I have tried another type of ABS plastic and it seems to be working just fine....I can't recommend to anyone here because I bought them from a supplier in South Africa (Cad House) but I'm sure they use a Chinese supplier. IMHO I would say experiment with different plastics if you are printing a lot. At worst if it doesn't work then you've lost a bit of cash, if it does then you'll save a lot moby gregstah - Ormerod
Thanks guys for pointing me to Matt's interface, it is sooooo much better!! As for firmware I'm not sure what I have on, I've not updated for about 2 weeks now :-) Gby gregstah - Ormerod
Hi Matt, I hadn't seen your new interface until it was brought to my attention. It is so much better, everything is fantastic and one of my favourite things about it is that the buttons "grey" out when you've sent a command until they are ready to be used again. I have not tested it fully yet but I'm looking forward to doing so. The only thing I found somewhat confusing was the instructions...by gregstah - Ormerod
I've had huge problems connecting to the web interface but finally I have a solution that works perfectly: Switch on your Ormerod Load the web page Wait for the reprap page to load, it will first load part of the interface then redirect to the password window NB!!! Put the password in but DO NOT ENTER yet Switch off your Ormerod, wait a few moments then switch it back on. Once the Ormerond is bby gregstah - Ormerod
I had wondered about that.... thanks for the heads up.by gregstah - Ormerod
One of the huge problems I had was a "Rocking" Hot end, so much so that it would lift prints most, if not all of the time, it made calibration and printing impossible. It turns out that a bit of patience and some figuring out was all that was needed. See the attachment. :-)by gregstah - Ormerod
I've done as advised, thank you! It seems to be working perfectly! :-)by gregstah - Ormerod
After wrestling with with my printer for days I finally managed to get a print done... My Ormaxis print has come out wonky as hell... (Frankly I'm glad I have a print of any sort to speak of) Has anyone had this, if so how do I fix it? Since it is so out of whack it's a little difficult to use this part to calibrate since it's so inaccurate. The particularly dodgy column is the Z column...by gregstah - Ormerod
Managed to sort it out, there was some debris on the sensor... I didn't even think to check for that. Gby gregstah - Ormerod
My Z-Probe seemed to be working just fine, now it is giving me a reading of 75 instead of 950 as dictated by the documentation. Needless to say I don't know what to do because if I carry on regardless it just does not work. When trying to run a print the hotend ends up nearly 2mm off the bed which obviously is a problem. Any suggestions? I have: Checked the polarity of the plug to make sureby gregstah - Ormerod
Ignore this, it turns out the grub screw had fallen out of stepper motor, there was slippage but oddly it seemed to create the above effect... which frankly I think I'm imagining since I can't see why it would do that. Gby gregstah - Ormerod
Suddenly my Y Axis is going the opposite way of what it should be? I have not changed the wiring I have checked that the wiring is correct in case I bumped something. I have restarted a number of times I have upgraded to the latest firmware (RepRapFirmware-050-30-12-2013.bin) in case of some sort of corruption (If that's Possible)by gregstah - Ormerod
I've had enough, when I bought this from RS it was not made clear that I would essentially be a beta tester. In fact it was sold as a 3d printer. I have been doing my damndest to get this thing working and frankly I've been more than patient. I've now discovered that for some reason that I can not fathom the hot end assembly is at one angle when at X180 then changes to another angle when at X2by gregstah - Ormerod
I've been rather amazed at how flimsy the bed is, sure the heat bed, aluminium and glass are stable but in essence they are supported by a thin piece of MDF which would be subject to absorption of moisture not to mention how flexible it is. I do realise the MDF is an insulator however it needs additional support.by gregstah - Ormerod
Hi Treth, no I was trying to use the Web interface as suggested...I've had equally unstable results from pronterface. Using the web interface I have to start a print at least a few times before it "takes" I have noticed that it takes a few minutes after homing so I am taking this into account. This time it totally froze and thank goodness I was in the room because the hotend got so hot it starby gregstah - Ormerod
Without a doubt the biggest hurdle I'm having is the crappy software.... . And the wonderful smell of smoke because the software has just frozen YET AGAIN I hope there is no damage!by gregstah - Ormerod
Happy new year all!! David Thank you for sharing!!! I discovered the hard way how much of a pain using just the alan keys were! I also went and bought a set of needle files which were a huge help too. For the x runner bearing I used kapton tape to "shim" it as described in some cases of the building the Z axis (I think it was) I think your replacement of a 10mm is a better idea though. LOL Nearby to Cape Town South Africa... - Far away :-) Thanks for the words of encouragement... :-) dc42 when you are running via the web interface, how do you set the temperatures? Are you simply sending commands? The input windows duplicate each other if I put 110 in "bed" it autofills the same figure to extruder and if I put 240 in extruder it automatically changes bed to the same. Some soby gregstah - Ormerod
I have to say I'm at the end of my wits and my patience as long since left the building. I have been for the last few days trying to print ormaxis.g the first attempt I noted that it was not going well and I'd not done my axis compensation very well that's when I discovered there seems to be no "cancel" or "abort". Since then: Most Print attemps are ignored When able to connect to the web interby gregstah - Ormerod
Thank you Markus, I thought I was missing something really obvious! I'll load the new firmware, thank you for letting me know. Gby gregstah - Ormerod
Lots of views and no response usually means I'm missing something totally obvious... am I?by gregstah - Ormerod
How do you abort a print and clear the buffer if you see a print is going badly? I can't seem to find a way to do this so I've been pausing prints then clicking the object to print again. Clearly it does not overwrite as I've just run out of webserver buffer... I'm now getting "Max open file count exceeded" Thank you.by gregstah - Ormerod
I'm having problems connecting to the RepRap web server, most of the time it doesn't connect and I get a page not found error. If it does connect it seems to ignore the password. So far I've had only one successful connection which allowed me to set the axis compensation as described in the documentation but now I'd like to re do it better than I did it before and of course I can't connect...by gregstah - Ormerod
