My electronics arrived in the UK today! I did have a bit of a wait but I didn't doubt they would get here in the end. Can't wait to give them a try on my machine (I am upgrading from generation one PIC electronics). Update: Programmed my main board and extruder controller today and are working fine. Will try it all together later.by greenarrow - For Sale
Hi, Did you get an estimate for the boards?by greenarrow - United Kingdom RepRap User Group

Hi, I've only just spotted this thread. I've been trying (and failing) to make brass heater barrels / nozzles for ages but lack the proper tools to do it. If I'm not too late I would love to get two (or one if you don't have enough) to the UK. I have already made my own insulators. Stefanby greenarrow - For Sale
I think if Adrian had found a good cheap source of PLA filament in the UK he would be shouting it from the rooftops, or the blog at least I would guess he is importing it at the moment.by greenarrow - General
The number of fully working machines has only recently gone from a small handful to the current number. I think Makerbot are largely responsible for this bump in numbers. When someone first gets a machine up and running I don't think they will generally start to print parts straight away, they will spend a bit of time printing things they have been waiting to do, and experimenting until they undeby greenarrow - General
It's essential when using Python to have a text editor that shows you the whitespace, as the whitespace is essentially part of the core. I think Notepad++ will do this, on Linux there is a plugin for gedit.by greenarrow - RepRap Host
I looks really good, but I had a got and I couldn't seem to get it to do much. I could draw lines and create primitive shapes, but I couldn't either move objects or set parameters between them. The website documentation is not very complete yet.by greenarrow - RepRap Host
Yep I think you've sussed it right. A couple of weeks ago I had a sift thought trying to figure out the differences between the two. I collected up all these links: latest 3d (gen 3) latest 5d (gen 2) skienforge is 3d based, but there is this converter: general: blog: gcode: I think the Bath team / Adrian are currently checking into the 5D / gen2 source, while New York / Makerbby greenarrow - RepRap Host

You don't need anything as fancy as that. I few years ago I saw a proof of concept where someone reproduced (by hand) a key from a photograph. It looks like you have exactly the same Java setup as me: java version "1.6.0_14" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_14-b08) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode, sharing) sudo update-alternatives --config java There are 3 alternatives which provide `java'. Some power supplies will not switch on without the load resistor. On mine I used a ~15ohm power resistor on the 5v line. There is also a 'status' line that should give out 5v when the psu is 'happy'. PSUs vary quite a bit though.by greenarrow - Controllers
I sounds like it is still the 64 bit Java being used. Can you post the results of: java -version and sudo update-alternatives --config java I'm not at home right now but when I am I will post mine for comparison. Well put, I would just like to add a couple more points: Power is the rate of flow of energy, and energy into a system and out of a system must be the same, therefore the electrical power in must equal the heat power out. The temperature of the resistor will however vary on the magnitude of the input power, and the rate at which the resistor can dissipate heat. The only difference with 'higherby greenarrow - Controllers
The designs are all open source, and if you get this working I'm sure Zach would be happy to merge it back into the main board. However regarding asking him to do this: This is a massive amount of work, with very little gain over the current design. I don't want to speak for him, but I expect he would rather spend his time working on real enhancements to the working of the machines. And these daby greenarrow - General
When using skate bearings the force to overcome the friction is so low that it is not a major issue. What has a greater effect on the print speed is the force required to accelerate the mass of the print head / print bed that is being moved. At least this is the case on my machine. I think this is why the makerbot gets very fast print speeds using a small lightweight print bed. However a maglevby greenarrow - Mechanics

I've thought about some related ideas before: 1) It would be nice to have some kind of model format that can be varied from various options after design time. e.g. you could design an extruder where the size of the motor can be selected when someone comes to print it, from the sizes the model can accept, and the model is adjusted to fit that motor. 2) I thought about a site where people can entby greenarrow - RepRap Host
Do you have a multimeter? If so set it to resistance (lowest scale), check that the pins 14 & 15 are making a connection connection on the motherboard If the board is making this connection then it can only really be a short somewhere on the board that is causing the PSU to not switch on (or switch on but then switch off again really quickly).
