Have you tried Astrosyn dampers? I have them on the CoreXY Im building and it is pretty darn quiet.

If I remember correctly, the requirements for the prize were pretty ridiculous. They basically wanted EVERY part of the printer to be printable, which is way ahead of the current technology.

What hotend? If it is a chinese clone, then you should expect to buy a new hotend.
I think with the 6 rolls of filament, spare parts, etc., it's a solid deal. The filament alone is worth ~$100-150. Later down the road, you could easily print parts for a different model printer if you wanted to upgrade.

Is it the "reprap" code or the "cheapv6" code?

I'm stuck between the linear system vs pulley system. Is it worth getting the Linear system?

Go with the linear guides. Also expect to buy a new hotend. They are using Chinese knockoffs that can be shady. It's worth the extra $50-80 to avoid the headaches.

I actually bought the first kit you posted back in November during the 11/11 sale. I haven't had time to assemble it, but one thing I am worried about is the slop in the wheels. They don't look like that are cut to ride in the extrusions precisely enough, but you get what you pay for.
For $202 + shipping, its a good starting point. You can always pick up some robot digg aluminum parts and oth

Yes, a single screw butt joint can allow the frame pieces to rotate unless there is something attached to them that prevents rotation. That is how my printer is built. Once the screws are tightened down it is very difficult to rotate any of the frame pieces. In the two years my original printer w

You are correct. The added aluminum powder only gives the look/feel of the metal, not the strength.

It is odd that it isn't readily available in the US. Is there a particular vendor you guys buy yours from in Germany?

I've seen someone use Neo magnets to make their printer "hover". I'd say that is probably the best you can do since there isn't actually any contact points.
Also, switching to 24V apparently also reduces noise, but I have not seen a comparison yet though...

Check eBay for relatively cheap linear guides. You can usually fine brand name guides for a lot cheaper than new.

If you have a guide that is already made for gantry systems you can point me to I will eliminate the steps for that and just list the guide for all applicable steps. However, so far I have found that information is found in many different places, and I have yet to find a full calibration guide that also lists links to all the appropriate test prints.
My idea is to create a very

Apart from motor configuration in firmware and wiring, how would calibrating a CoreXY be any different from any other gantry system?
It just seems like you are trying to re-invent the wheel.

I actually recently got a 5th gen replicator for free (seriously). Thankfully it has been working pretty good since I got it after a few tweaks *knocks on wood*, but I am thinking about revamping it after my CoreXY build is finished so I'm definitely interested in what you end up deciding on.
It looks like they used an H-bot belt configuration, correct? So I would think converting to CoreXY sh

Have you tried PEI? I've heard (no personal experience) that that stuff works with just about anything.
Either that or Mutley3D's Printbite.

I ordered a Kossel kit from FLSUN during the 11/11 sale. Haven't gotten it yet, but it is china, so shipping can be slow. Luckily it looks like the seller only has 15 days to ship the order or it automatically gets canceled.
This printer came in the other day. It looks halfway decent for a $225 printer. I'll reserve my final judgement until after assembly (whenever that is going t

So I recently finished installing a new SSD in my computer and had to do a clean install of Windows 7 in the process. Prior to the new SSD, my Printrbot Jr was printing great and everything. Now after I can't get the thing to connect. When I try to connect in Repetier Host, the connect button turns green, but nothing comes up in the log noting that it was connected. It also doesn't register t

Yea I understand the cantilever effects, but it seems like an odd reason NOT to try that gantry style at a smaller scale when it is the main style used in large format printers which use larger cantilevers and heavier structural components.
As for the picture, I just grabbed the first one off google that looked close to what I was thinking of. Guess I should have looked a little more closely...

Is there any particular reason a flying style gantry is not used on small scale printers (<300 mm^3)? It seems like it could be possible and would give you a large build area to machine size ratio.

How are you connecting the x and y axis? It looks like the X rail is mounted on a plate, then the plate is mounted on the Y rails?

Did you activate CoreXY kinematics in the firmware?
You may have to play with the orientation of the motor plugs and the motor inversion in the firmware to get ir moving correctly.
