Quotethomassmith1969 As soon as I get the chance, I will build a few more and post step-by-steps with code (Assuming anyone is interested, so let me know) I am definitely interested! It would be great if you could post additional details. It would be really fun to see a video of your printer working with DC motor drives. Any chance you could post a video? This idea has come up a few times before. It seems like an interesting thing to investigate. You might get some additional info from this thread: Under Water Printing, and also this post by KalleP in a thread about wax printing. There is also this example where structures are made by 3D printing water droplets under oil: Liquid Scaffolds From a 3D Printer. If you are interested in printing metalby MattMoses - General
Hi Cefiar, I am willing to try to implement these features, but I have never done it before. I have access to the server, but the last time I logged in to make a few innocent changes, I ended up bringing down the entire wiki for a short period of time. For this reason I am somewhat hesitant to go mucking about on the server without proper supervision. Please understand that many of the activeby MattMoses - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Hi Traumflug, sorry to make you upset. I did not mean to offend you personally, rather I was trying to lead by example and "edit first, ask permission later". After you explained that the dxf files were missing for those machines, it is obvious that they do indeed deserve the "Not Open Source" tag. I have undone my undoings on the wiki and everything should be back to the way it was earlier toby MattMoses - General
It seems like we need to have a written policy about commercial links and commercial activity. I do not think we can fix the problem if we are all trying to enforce our own personally defined rules. Here is a first-draft-imaginary-just-for-discussion-purposes attempt at a unified policy: External links to these places are always allowed anywhere: GitHub, Youtube, Youmagine, Thingiverse, Reddit,by MattMoses - General
Hi arthurwolf, Both myself and thejollygrimreaper are active on the forum and also active wiki editors. If you have a problem with wiki edits you can discuss them with us - in this forum, via PM, or on the wiki. Hi Everyone, this thread is for discussing ways to improve the RepRap Wiki. It continues a conversation started here. Do you use the RepRap Wiki? Why or why not? Do you have any ideas for improving it? Here are things I sometimes see people complain about: Information is hard to find Information is out of date There are too many links to commercial sites that add nothing of value to the wiki.by MattMoses - General
Can you give us some more information to work with? What kind of printer is it? What kind of electronics? Do you know if it has firmware loaded on it?by MattMoses - Reprappers
Looks like a baud rate mismatch. Try changing the baud rate.by MattMoses - Reprappers
QuoteOhmarinus Hi, I think you're on the wrong forum. This is a forum for 3D-printers. Ohmarinus? For Shame! Just joking, I am not really upset. But seriously, RepRap is more than just 3D printers: QuoteFrom the Front Page of the RepRap Wiki RepRap is about making self-replicating machines, and making them freely available for the benefit of everyone. Here is a quick design for a split-tube hinge in OpenSCAD. It's probably not the best design for printing, but I will upload a few others. A cruciform, as suggested by Delgir, would probably print better than a circular split-tube.by MattMoses - Polar Machines, SCARA, Robot Arms
Quoteggherbaz So, in other words if anyone here can make the parts that I'm requesting and want to give me a decent quote for that, I will be glad to pay you for your services. OK, so what you are proposing is not really a bounty. You might try announcing your request in these subforums: Wanted and Job Shop: I need stuff made! You guys may already be aware of this, but I didn't see anyone else post these links yet. There are some very successful experiments with glass hot ends on the wiki. See Glass Nozzles and Heater Block for Glass Nozzle.by MattMoses - General
Hi Gerardo, You are one of the first people to try this system out. We are all still working out the details of how it works. Can you provide more precise information about this? It sounds like you want to request funds with a bounty, and then you will use the funds to obtain the machined parts. Is this correct? If this is the case, I recommend taking the following steps. Hi Radioman, welcome to the forum! You might consider using a bounty to raise some funds. Bounties are used quite a bit by open source software developers (see for example the Wikipedia article on open source bounties). We have been trying to get people interested in using bounties for open source hardware projects here on the forum, but there has not been a lot of activity yet. If you want toby MattMoses - General
Delgir, you inspired me to try something similar using stuff I had sitting around. The wood is 1X2. The tubing is 1/2 inch diameter, 0.07" wall thickness plastic. The tubes are "split" by slitting them once lengthwise with a razor. The plastic is pretty "gummy" - not especially springy - so it is not very well suited for something like this. Even still, the flexibility in the desired mode is fairby MattMoses - Polar Machines, SCARA, Robot Arms
QuoteRobert_Paulson You kind of lost me on the 4th video? When he put the drill bit through the nozzle and spun it around the bit. Seems like an over sized hole. In those videos (link again for reference), I do not think the guy is actually making a nozzle for a hot end. I think he is just demonstrating the technique. I guess no one bothered to click on the Nozzle manufacturing link. If they had, they would have seen the video showing how to drill a 0.4 mm hole in a brass hot end by holding the drill in a pin vise in your hand. You don't have to take my word for it. Perhaps Have Blue and nophead might persuade you. QuoteHave Blue Watchmakers would create a tiny divot on the center of the stock with a graveby MattMoses - General
There is a special technique you can use to self-center the drill by hand. You don't need a lathe or a center drill. See: Nozzle manufacturingby MattMoses - General

QuoteTraumflug I think this is the right solution for all stuff not being particularly RepRap, like rods, motors, bolts, etc. RepRap-specific stuff likely requires different handling. I see four different types... OK... So at least we now have a written list of rules. They seem kind of complicated and hard to follow, but this is an improvement. QuoteCefiar Re: "RepRap takes the form of a free desktop 3D printer" Perhaps this needs to be expanded just a bit to properly define what we mean by free. QuoteTraumflug But RepRap has to decide Who says RepRap has to decide? One of the defining characteristics of the RepRap movement is its inability to make decisions about anything. Joking aside, however, you guys make fair points. It seems like there are vague rules in place about when it is OK to put a link to a shop on the wiki, but it still is not clear to me what is OK and what is not OK. I think you are correct that there are two communities now. Maybe they can be called the "RepRap Research Community" and the "RepRap Commercial Community". There is of course some overlap, and there are people who make very valuable contributions who are also members of both communities. Hi Gordie, Sorry it took me a month to respond to this The Forum Usage Guide looks good to me. In your original message, you said QuoteGordie I'm gonna make this topic sticky.
