I'm having an identical issue on my Mendel parts Sells mendel, haven't managed to fix it yet, thinking about removing the Gen 6 board and putting on one of my sanguino boards with SD reader to see if it's an electronics issueby NelsonRap - General

Yes the original computer died and this issue is now happening on 2 different ones, I'm lookingby NelsonRap - General
Anyone? I'm kinda getting desperate as I can no longer rely on my printer to make decent prints and I'm not sure what my next step should beby NelsonRap - General
I have a Sells Mendel running Gen6 I used to run it off an old desktop just fine using Repsnapper, when that died I switched to running it off a netbook and that is when this issue started. About 60% of my prints now step over after a few layers mostly on the Y axis but sometimes on the X axis too. Often they step back after about 6-10 layers leaving a ridge on the print. I changed back to runby NelsonRap - General

I don't know I'm not using a Prusa as I sold the last one before I left Nelson I'm back using my Sells Mendel again or at least I will be once I'm all settled in here, have even been donated a desktop from another forum I'm on to see if it solves the step problem I have had since having to use my netbook. Ever since going over to printing from my netbook I have suffered from missed steps which iby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
I use LM8UU printed bearing carriages from Thbingiverse, 9mm MDF on top of them with 5mm aluminium plate and use 4 2.2ohm housed resistors as the heat, it is all nice and low can have never needed to level it but can just by using shims between the mdf and aluminium. Heats to 60C easily in about 10 mins and just works nicely. I don't have belt tensioning just pull it tight by hand and fix works rby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
It's not that hard even I figured it out and I suck with tech stuffby NelsonRap - Reprappers
Yes humidity makes a huge difference, just follow what the Americans say about this especially the ones from California or Floridaby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
Did you install the FTDI driver to the USB port it is connected to, and youy need to set the correct baud rate in pronterface (115200) AND tell Pronterface which COM port it is meant to be looking at (the one with the FTDI driver and printer plugged into it) Hope that at least is a startby NelsonRap - Reprappers
For some reason we could only upload from one Vista laptop and not from my Win7 netbbook and only using Arduino22. Is there a jumper on the board by the chip, can't find a picture of it but it needs oneby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
Yes I found 2 didn't give me a good finish on the top when using 25% fill and everyone else seemed to be using 3by NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
I only use 25% fill on those parts and they are plenty strong enough anything over 30% would be overkill. I do use 3 perimeters though. Remember that the skinny sections even at 25% fill are near enough solid with 3 perimeters. It's only the base which is really 25% and since that doesn't do anything its fine. That brown one looks really good, your really getting ahead with your printing now, wiby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
Have you calibrated your feed rate so that when you tell the machine to pull in 100mm of plastic it actually does pull in 100mm. I do this with the hot end removed and keep updating the firmware until it is correct, then I put the hotend back on and check it agian. This way your wasting large amounts of plastic during initial calibrationby NelsonRap - Reprappers
Yes have diwnloaded the Y idler too and stored it away for future use once I'm up and running againby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
That's pretty standard actually from what I have seen to date. The first 3 layers usually sag and then it gets better from thereby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group

Currently Gen6 soon switching to one of our own Sanguino boards frot eh heated bed control and SD card printing controlby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
Fan just needs 2 pins and can plug into any of the spare 2 pin headers on the sanguino board. I use 40mm PC fans and just cut off the third wireby NelsonRap - Sanguino(lolu)
5mm hose makes the motor shaft nice a grippyby NelsonRap - Reprappers
I don't know my bed is either on or off, working towards having it adjustable though and to print off SD card once finally moved, everything is packed away for nowby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
If you turn the heated bed off halfway through the print will ping off as it needs the heat. PLA shrinks as it cools from printing temp to solid temp but if there is 0 heat at the bed it shrinks too far and comes off. I found this out when a wire broke on my heated bedby NelsonRap - New Zealand RepRap User Group
