If you are testing it via a firmware and microcontroler for reprap.... understand that without limit switches on the home side, the motors will only turn in the + direction... you can compile the firmware to ignore limit switches. Al...by araspitfire - Reprappers
Most of the software has provision for an endstop at either end. Depending on your own choices, endstops are not even used. I just position my print-head where I want zero to be on my print, and hit GO. One thing to note though, is if you arbitrarily decide that your X min stop is on the RH side of your bot... things that you print will come out mirror image from how they are modeled. I bought some 1mm thick PTFE plate, etched one side... I use silicon high-temp gasket maker to glue it on the outside of my resistor block... I gain some insulation, as well as the non-stick surface. Al...by araspitfire - Reprappers
Just to add my two cents here.... XCBot'c hot-end is made from a resistor block. I don't have a lathe. I used a drill-press, but considering we are talking 2 holes, that don't need to be perfectly aligned, a hand-drill would be fine. And an M6 tap. Having read a ton before starting, I decided to go with nophead's resistor block, and the resistors he suggests, as it seems the most simple/foolby araspitfire - General
Another option... I can confirm it works. Someone on IRC mentioned Dry Mount adhesive.. comes in a spray-can. I happened to have a can around and gave it a try when I couldn't get my ABS to stick to a (too cool) kapton layer.. Spray a light layer on.. let it dry... print on it... It sticks quite well, but the adhesive strength is not that high, so the part can be quiet easily removed... Needby araspitfire - Reprappers

Report on IR Radiant heat. After getting some black construction paper to 100 deg C in less than a minute... I was worried about having too much heat with my 150W radiant heater bulb. Not the case as it turns out. I bought some matt black high-temperature paint, cut a 2mm aluminium plate to my table size (30x24), wiped it and sprayed it black. A couple hours later I rested it on my thermocouby araspitfire - General
I'm quickly getting to the point where I'll be heating my build area... I've decided to go my own way with it as well... I've bought a 150 watt IR lamp from the hardware store for 11 euros. I have a big roll of aluminum tape. What I'll try first is layer some aluminum tape on my MDF build platform... stick a sheet of black card on top of it... and if acrylic will take it.. my acrylic build plaby araspitfire - General
Just to chime in here, as I'm from NL... Have you noticed this shop yet? He's based in Eindhoven, accepts visitors.. hangs out on IRC as Camiel|G. I've gone my own way as the design was more important to me than making parts, but I'm documenting the journey here:\ I'm in Voorburg. Don't have anything printing yet, but I expect I will within a couple weeks. Al...by araspitfire - Dutch User Group - Archive
I'm planning on using MIG tips for my first go...but even though they have .6 stamped on them.. that is not the hole size...they are a sliding fit for .6mm welding wire... thus are quite a bit bigger than .6mm (mine are bigger then .7mm) I Tried squeezing the end (before cutting it off and drilling out the stub) in a vice, but didn't manage to decrease the size of the hole by much... got it dowby araspitfire - General

If you want to see what's possible, and really want a good start to reprap, have a read of this blog. Really worth a full read, gives a great sense of history to the project... I intend to... I'm 2/3rd of the way into cutting aluminium right now, and waiting for the rest of my RS Components order to be delivered to start assembly. I've never bothered.... but I don't get shocks in my house.... YMMV. I've been messing with IC's for years, and the only ones I throw away are because I've let the magic smoke out... usually by turning the knob on my power supply too far... or hooking up wires backwards... or touching something with a probe ground that I shouldn't.... or bridging some IC pins with a probe tip.... or forgetting tby araspitfire - Controllers
Just building my own design RepStrap now. No direct experience, but from a couple months worth of reading, I get the impression that it's really hard to print decent quality using a threaded rod as lead screw. Time taken to build each part is not the issue, but the mismatch between minimum extrusion speed (I believe there is a minimum speed for control-ability), and maximum X Y movement speeby araspitfire - General
I was going to suggest that you make sure you don't have your PWM (current limiting) turned down too far, and that your axes are not too tight for your available torque... But I think nophead's likely got it in one. I wrote a simple program to push pulses out of the Mega (motors on the bench)... strikes me as a more real-world test than trying for single steps. Actually the only welding on the t-slot version is planned to be on the 90 degree bearing mounts. One could easily avoid welding by moving the long bolts in so they cut into the angles. The guy I got the idea from used a center bolt into the V of the angle to hold them together. Unfortunately the design is done in Inventor (education license).
