This evening I hope, yesterday was a bit madby UkIan - RAMPS Electronics
Hmm, I do use $fn a lot, but I've been moving to lower values generally, and I don't use anything overly clever. I'll have a dig through and see if there are any absurdly hi fn or fa values in there that I missed :/by UkIan - OpenSCAD
What printer? I was using a bulldog lite on my prusa i3 until recently, which looks a little like that. I strapped it to my X carriage with some fat cable ties as it was a temporary solution. Worked perfectly. I'm using a completely custom X carriage now I designed and printed on the strapped on version. It's pretty simple, you just want a solid fit.by UkIan - General
Free: I'd recommend Repetier as it has all the bits of pronterface, and can use all the slicers. For slicers I started with Slic3r but moved to Cura slicer. Both have issues imo. If you install Repetier it handles both *Warning* both Pronterface and Repetier are rubbish at applying changed settings. If you change a setting in the slicer, sometimes you have to either restart the program or forby UkIan - General
I've designed a model which is actually not that complicated, but it takes 20 minutes to render with F6. If you have a slow rendering model, are there things you do to speed it up? I have no minkowski's going on, but quite a few difference statements and plenty of modules and one for loop which iterates 6 times. It always stops at the same point, in this case 962 of 1000, and that is where it jusby UkIan - OpenSCAD
QuoteXabbax QuoteUkIan Question for you: What is the clay like material you put around the hot bits? I've been looking for something like that and haven't found anything that likes hot temperatuers. Can you direct me to a picture where you see the material. My mistake, it looks like it is actually where you have primed and then painted it. Had a sort of terracotta colour, so jumped to conclusionby UkIan - General
I must have these.by UkIan - General

I've finally got Simplify3D running, I like it a lot. I'm wondering if it will work with the Duet+Duex hardware running RepRap firmware? My Duet is still sat in its box waiting for something to put it in, so thought I'd ask. I'm going to ask over in the Simplify forums too once I have access.by UkIan - Controllers
I will try and connect everything up tomorrow and then I should have enough details to helpby UkIan - RAMPS Electronics
Will do. I keep all my filament in a chest with a dehumidifier.by UkIan - General
I've ordered a reel of pva to put in a second extruder for support material. Is anyone doing this at the moment? Is there anything I need to be aware of to make it work? Thanksby UkIan - General
I don't understand the support options in the various slicers. You can specify a z height gap which seems to default to less than one layer. How is that supposed to work? I'm finding it difficult to tune the settings anyway. How do you set your support parameters?by UkIan - Printing
Perfect thank youby UkIan - RAMPS Electronics
I couldn't find a schematic of dimensions on the wiki. I'm looking for schematics showing dimensions, position of screw holes, etc. Any ideas? Thanksby UkIan - RAMPS Electronics
QuoteLoboCNC Try "dial indicator" That got it. So simple when you know the names of things Thank youby UkIan - General
I call it a depth gauge, consists of a needle on a spring which tells you how far in it is pressed. I've been trying to buy one, but without much luck. I assume it has a proper name? Any ideas? The two I have now are not sprung, which is the critical bit for me.by UkIan - General
So I'm connecting a heated bed, powered by a separate power supply. It's controlled with a seven switch, which requires a pin on the ramps to be configured to switch on when heating, off when not. I know what to change in marlin, what I don't know is which pin I can use on the ramps. I've got a full graphics LCD on it, so the entire bottom section is in use, so I guess I'm using something in auxby UkIan - RAMPS Electronics
I've got one now, merci Ooznest, so if I get time I'm going to try setting it up as one half of a dual hot end set up. One with the flexidrive, one with a bowden driven by a Bulldog XL. Should be interestingby UkIan - General
Burned the enamel off the ends, I want it on the main wire to help keep it insulated. One of the reasons I picked it was because one of the reviewers cooked a coil in his oven to test it at temperature I was holding the leads in my hands rather than crimping them, and that was with the bare, sanded ends of the heating wire. I did try again once I'd attached the connecting wires which are soldereby UkIan - Controllers
I've got some on order for tomorrow, so I'll see how well that holds. I might try roughing up the painted surface too and if that doesn't work I'll try the unpainted sideby UkIan - Controllers
Never seen those before, thanksby UkIan - Controllers
All the multimeters I can find are limited to 10amps. Is there something I'm missing? I'd like to see what draw is happening on my heated bed, but that's going to be 10-20 amps. Thanksby UkIan - Controllers
So I'm building a custom heated bed, loosely following the instructions for Robert's heated bed. I have some questions. I cautiously connected everything up for the first time, there were no big explosions/balls of fire. Bit smelly, I'm not entirely sure which part is causing the smell, but it wasn't burning. I have a 3mm aluminium plate, this is painted with black stove paint. I figured it wouby UkIan - Controllers
Gaddammit did that get turned on? Bad upgrade process!by UkIan - Repetier
Yes, their actual cnc version is about a billion pounds, madness! I do like the x3 though,by UkIan - CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
I'm documenting the whole heated bed build. It's a but like robert's bed but built by an idiot, so I'm trying to ensure the last picture isn't of the house on fireby UkIan - Controllers
Convert to watts and back again. Does that work?by UkIan - Controllers
I'm sure I should know this, but it turns out I don't. I'm looking online for a new switch to fit in the mains cable of my printer power supply. I use the nice LED lighting ones. I vaguely remember how power supplies work, but I can't remember the maths. If my printer is using 30A at 12V, what rating mains switch do I need? Mains voltage here in the UK is 230V, so what amps should it support?by UkIan - Controllers
