My ramps board isn't working properly. I can drive steppers, but I can't send power to D9 or D8. D10 however (hot end 0) does power on and heat the extruder. Also, as you can see from the picture below, the power in block is burning. I've disconnected everything and have a new one on order. Some other things which may be relevant: This board has only ever driven 1 hot end and 1 heated bed (alumiby UkIan - RAMPS Electronics
Yes, I didn't have an objective way to measure the friction, but they are very slippery an it *seems* to be more slippery when you apply a twisting force to the bearing. In the video when I'm sliding the up and down, I'm actually pushing into the rod and twisting to try and make life difficult for them.by UkIan - General
It's a tinkerer's design no doubt, but the quality of the kit you start with will affect the outcome and overal reliability. Ooznest do a nice i3 kit which includes the main improvements you'd probably want to make anyway, although they should offer a bowden option imo. I'm not affiliated with them, but they're one of the companies I deal with for printer bits and I like them.by UkIan - Printing
Interesting, I like the Hexagon for ABS, although I found PLA would stick in it after a while. You can clean the parts of the hexagon pretty well with a chef's blow torch. So it might be worth disassembling it, and giving it a good clean that way. To get ABS out I tend to soak it in acitone, but it's slower and you need to poke at it to get the dissolving goo out. You can burn off the abs too,by UkIan - Printing
If the extruder is clogging, that's not related to steps per mm, although temperature can have something to do with it. What hot end do you have? What extruder? (is it this one??) Do you have retraction switched on in the slicing settings? Does the Extruder stepper motor get hot during printing? How long does it take before it clogs? What electronics board are you using? Ramps? Something eby UkIan - Printing
Purely for science I tested out some IGUS 8mm linear plane bearings. Here's a little video of the normal LM8UU's and IGUS ones to compare the noise they make. Other interesting differences: Cost: Fing expensive. I think these were about £8 each, for which you can get a dozen LM8UU bearings. Size: Annoyingly they are exactly 1mm longer and 1mm wider than the LM8UU. Quite infuriating because Iby UkIan - General
Well, looks like there are changes afoot. I might poke my nose in a bit. There's a note on the front page of the git hub page now: QuoteGithub NOTE: As per 21/12/2014 all stale branches have been thrown in the trash can, some where not updated in 3 years and some not in 2 years, currently we/i (boelle) suggest you use the "bug fixing branch" as we need to get sorted out any issues before we starby UkIan - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Not the first to ask it seems. Problem solved.by UkIan - General
There are four according to the wiki page and I have no idea what any of them do. I ask because I'm sure at least one is now coming on that never used to come on. Thanksby UkIan - General
I just downloaded it and there are various compile errors if you try and enable the REPRAP_DISCOUNT_FULL_GRAPHIC_SMART_CONTROLLER (I have g8lib), errors below. Looking at the history someone I don't know (actually that's everyone contributing to the project ) has been making changes in that area in the last day or so. The last actual release was from over a year ago, but when ever I need a newby UkIan - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Not yet, I immediately downloaded the latest versions of everything, but there's no reason I can't use older versions. I've got the arduino for Visual Studio plug in as well, so I might give that a go as I'm not a fan of Eclipse anyway. I'll try it with older versions first though, I just need a working firmware before I do anything else. Do I need to compile in settings, or are they all configby UkIan - Firmware - mainstream and related support
I've followed this tutorial to get Eclipse building RepRapFirmware (unsuccessfully). I think it's a bit out of date as a lot of the packages are updated now. The Arduino Eclipse plugin doesn't seem to support 1.5.8 would be my guess. I followed all the steps and my build output indicates it can't find "make" which I would of thought would be in the arduino binaries directory I set up... Is theby UkIan - Firmware - mainstream and related support
QuoteRobH2 Ha, no one said it was safe. They just said it can be done. Seriously though, with precautions, it's not too bad from what I read. Just don't splash it around. It's drain cleaner. We use it all the time and rarely have issues because we know it's nasty stuff. Treat dissolving PLA the same way. We reprappers are manufacturers now. Manufactures have all kinds of user "unfriendly processeby UkIan - General
QuoteRobH2 QuoteUkIan 1) People keep saying PLA, when I think they mean PVA. Nothing useful disolves PLA (Or so I thought ) No, I think they are using the correct names. PLA (not PVA) dissolves in a heated sodium hydroxide solution. Oh really? That's interesting. I put hot caustic soda in the "do not play with" section though :/by UkIan - General
1) People keep saying PLA, when I think they mean PVA. Nothing useful disolves PLA (Or so I thought ) 2) What is the smell like? I've refused to play with hips support on the basis it leaves everything smelling of Oranges. I don't want smelly parts, especially printed ones.by UkIan - General
I've only been around Reprap for a few months, and I've found the content in the Wiki often very useful, but finding the content in the wiki is very hit and miss. Mostly miss actually. I have a personal dislike of Wikis. I like the idea you can author information and structure it, I hate the cack handed way they deal with images. You can paste a picture into an email message in gmail now, and uby UkIan - General
Ooznest in the UK do the Bulldog extruders . I've got both the XL and normal, the difference is that the XL has a gear box while the normal one is direct drive. Direct drive means you have a toothed cog directly connected to the stepper motor, where as geared uses a gear box to increase torque. The XL is really nice, I'm using it with bowden and 1.75mm filament. I've also got a Flexidrive whicby UkIan - General
I've got a roll of pva specifically to give this a go, but my printer is very off line right now. I considered hips, but I don't like the idea of my prints smelling of oranges.by UkIan - General
Simplify 3d allows manual placement and removal of support and also different settings for different parts of a model. The support placement tutorial I linked to isn't that great, but it does discuss the options. The second link to different regions having different settings is much better. It's not free, but costs about £100. My overal rating so far about 8 out of 10. There are a few bugs, alby UkIan - General
Practically impossible to say what's the problem without a lot of extra info, but one thing that will help is to switch off reboot on system error. There are lots of ways to get to this screen, try Control panel->System and security->System. Follow the 1, 2, 3 and disable reboot. In case you're worried about this, the threshold for whether the system will reboot when it encounters an erroby UkIan - Printing
Marlin, repetier, teacup, reprap and sprinter seems to cover the main ones. Reprap is a problem as it won't run on the same hardware as the others, but the others could all be configured to run on a ramps. Are any of the above known to give noticeably better or worse prints?by UkIan - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Excellent, thanks, I think I'm going to switch my current machine over to it and see how it goes.by UkIan - Controllers
Borrowed the Omerod build manual to read up a little on the electronics, all seems sensible so far Just need to know if I need to configure the EXTFET FOR the heated bed now taby UkIan - Controllers
Perfect. I'm building a heated bed, which currently draws quite a bit, so I'll look at the Extfet pins. Is there any documentation for the DUET, I don't even know how you configure it or access the web interface when you turn it on. I know how to access web interfaces, but things like if it requires a default user/password or port, that sort of thing. Do I need to update the firmware to switch thby UkIan - Controllers
How much current is the heated bed allowed at 12v when controlled by a duet board? Cheers Ianby UkIan - Controllers
Hah yes, it's always the way isn't it. But if that's how we get to a solution, then that's the way we go I'm coming around to the idea of polyholes. The newest version of that file has all the fn statements removed, except for the ones when it makes nut cutouts to hold a nut. I'm going to make up a little test piece of various sized poly holes to see which size works best for me and I'll go froby UkIan - OpenSCAD
FOUND THE F****ER. My stupid fault. I had a for loop which created holes at regular intervals. I'd accidentally set it to make them from -1000 to +100 every 10 spaces. Actually only need -20 to +50. Made that change. Instant processing. The fix. module RowOfHoles() { for(i=[-20:10:50]) { translate([0,0,i])rotate([90,0,0])cylinder(d=3.8, h=100,center=true); translate([0,-16,i])rotate([90by UkIan - OpenSCAD
Here you go. There is one module being run at the very bottom called TriCarriageTop(); This utilises most of the code above it. If you press F5 you should see the model below. If you press F6, you'll get a result sometime in the next epoch :/by UkIan - OpenSCAD
I'll pop it on when I get home this evening if that's OKby UkIan - OpenSCAD
Excellent, this works for me. As an aside, do any printers ship with duet? I'd love to see more due based boards in circulation.by UkIan - Controllers
