Possibly. It becomes soft and degrades a bit. It doesn't smooth, but it does lose some structural integrity. To answer according to your application: Your ABS will melt and bond to the PLA, regardless of how the PLA itself reacts. I don't think it's going to work, I toyed with the idea myself, but that's what I came to in experimenting.by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
I'm just going to throw OpenBuild's V-Slot out there as an option. It's the route I'm going for extended length linear motion. Problem is that they are all too often out of stock on half of their products, but I'm a patient person and finding them the best option for my needs I am willing to wait for each purchase as things jump in and out of stock. I'm at 800mm lengths at the furthest, and I quiby MrDoctorDIV - Mechanics
Do you have an IR thermometer to verify temps? Have you checked the resistance in your thermistor?by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
Sorry, should have asked in the same post; what firmware are you using? When you open up your firmware in your IDE switch over to the configuration.h tab and scroll down/search and find the thermistor portion. Change your number to match your thermistor type. It should give you a list with numbers matching it's type [ie. "// 1 is 100k thermistor" would be set by "#define EXT0_TEMPSENSOR_TYPE 1"by MrDoctorDIV - Printing

How did you upload your firmware? Did it come preinstalled or did you use the Arduino IDE or other means?by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
Personally, I don't believe in aged PLA or ABS filament. I've stored mine in not a single clean or kept dry environment, just sat in whatever living room of the time. Over a year old and printing hasn't changed. Could very well be that is the end of the roll though, not because of age but because of a bad manufacturer. Have you tried with a different roll or do you only have one?by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
So it is that it's an alloy. Thanks. I'm not concerned about stangnant smell, that's not a problem. As soon as the parts are stressed or worn in any way the smell is present. As soon as they break or the surface is torn up, the smell is as strong as when it is printed. I won't be using a more expensive, robust filament simply for looks. But you answered my question and I can adapt accordingly. Bby MrDoctorDIV - Printing
Too cold. Also, you might recheck your steps/mm and adjust your extrusion ratioby MrDoctorDIV - Printing
I'd say there are more to avoid than to buy from. Do your research with a bit of research to go with it before you buy. I feel sorry for the people that just up and buy filament, that's a lot of plastic and a bit of money wasted because a filament bad enough will never go anywhere, shades of gray included. I like MatterHackers, never let me down and I recommend them all the way. I've heard good tby MrDoctorDIV - General
If you have the math, could it be done in Excel? I might be able to draw that one up, work has supplied me with the opportunities to master Excel formulas I never thought were possible before. EDIT: PM me if you're interested, I don't want to hijack this post.by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
Slic3r, nasty. Turn off "detect bridging perimeters." In my experience, slic3r makes "bridging perimeters" worse with this setting on.by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
QuoteRalph.Hilton Quotesheepdog43 Another problem is filament precision, anything over 10% out of spec is considered problematic. On 3mm, this is .3mm that is a HUGE deviation and very easy to stay within spec, on 1.75mm, you are allowed only .17, which is troublesome for some manufacturers. I have had some 1.75mm filament that was .24mm out of spec and jammed my bowden tube so bad I had to hammeby MrDoctorDIV - General
I used to think direct-direct drive was the way to go, and for simplicity and basic printing, it is. But if you want better prints, get a geared motor. I can't think of any other way to achieve really low layer heights and more consistent extrusion while maintaining power . I'm not speaking with experience, so take it with a grain of salt, but from I can see, go geared for quality, 1:1 direct forby MrDoctorDIV - General
That's a really wide flat zone. Not sure you'll ever get perfect overhang and bridging.by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
I've known but always wondered about that, how does a flat nozzle not make good bridges? Otherwise, getting good overhang with my PLA has always been an issue, ABS not so much, just take it super slow and for me at least that did the trick. Sli3r has settings for different bridging speed. I would make a test overhang and try playing with the bridging settings. I believe PLA needs speeding up, ABby MrDoctorDIV - Printing
You don't need to sniff anything to notice it, it smells almost as strong as when it prints. Think maybe it has to do with the fact that it's an alloy? Or simply not as good filament? Seemed high quality to me. Packaged extremely well, sturdy spool, etc. I don't remember the numbers, but I remember the filament diameter hardly varied.by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
I have mine right next to my computer, I don't smell the print from sitting, but if I lean closer to my printer and take a big whif, or just breath real close to my printer, I can smell it. The smell while printing isn't the issue. I don't want my customers to feel threatened by broken prints. I can even smell it if I stress it a bit. This isn't something I want to sell.by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
Slic3r has a wipe feature. Just throwing that out there for the wolves to chew.by MrDoctorDIV - Tantillus
When you check those boxes you have to make a post, the options are posted with the post. Else, you could use the Follow Topic link between the thread and reply box.by MrDoctorDIV - General
So when I print in my ABS/PA alloy, not only does it stink during printing, but when broken they gave off the same smell. Even single walled, non hollow portions give off this smell, so it's obviously not large pockets of air. Does this mean I'm printing wrong or is this standard with ABS or Nylon? If I break Legos they don't smell, so I'm fairly certain it's abnormal.by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
I know Repetier can have 5 extruders, I don't know anything about programming them as axis. Also looks like aprinter can add axis "easily."by MrDoctorDIV - Developers
My idea with the paper was to use it similar to wood; flat, cut pieces. Fitted together via duct tape. I had a problem finding a suitable adhesive findable at Walmart, but I only tried a few before I put the project on the back burner. I've since seen one or two that would work better.by MrDoctorDIV - General
I tried playing with a build using glue paper as the body and wooden dowels as rails. Even at that kind of cost cutting, on paper it was at least $250by MrDoctorDIV - General
Just a random spec I found on a search: Extended Temperature Limits: Peak: -50 Degrees C to >180 Degrees C Long-Term: -50 Degrees C to 130 Degrees Cby MrDoctorDIV - Delta Machines
I like magentizing things for ease and appearance. I have thermal paste on my extruder for the thermistor and heater cartridge. I've gone above 350C. Well, didn't find out until after that thermal paste isn't rated for that temp, but I've never had an issue. Nothing's changed. I can say it did smell a bit weird at first, but only for a short time. Pretty sure only 100C will be just fine.by MrDoctorDIV - Delta Machines
With my S3D as the slicer I've seen four extra layers beyond what Repetier Host says.by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
Slower speeds, lower temp. Do you have cooling on in your slicer settings? If not, turn that on and see how it works.by MrDoctorDIV - Printing
I've used both Mega/Minitronics. They're both well built. Megatronics is better for easy fixing if a driver burns, as previously stated. I would highly recommend getting extra fuse(s) with the board. It's not related to the board, the fuses do their job the way they should, but for myself being US based shipping standard has lost a package from them and tracked shipping is insanely expensive forby MrDoctorDIV - Controllers
