I have the same issue with pressure advance doing big retracts. I am using firmware retract though, so I'm not sure it's related. There may be some interaction with volumetric extrusion, as I set the filament diameter to the magic 1.2 something in the slicer and the firmware controls computing the extruded volume. However, I think it might not use volume measures for retraction so it might pull i

Yes but if there was a good retraction that could be significantly reduced if not eliminated.

Seems Matterslice has this option but it doesn't appear to do a retraction so filament oozes all over while the extruder is hanging out.

Yes, I do frequently use the sacrificial tower approach and the print two approach, as I alluded in the OP.
I'm wondering about the Slic3r feature which is already there to address short time layers this seems to be doing something non-intuitive.
I suppose just slowing down would help if your top feature were, say a thin raised lip around the perimeter of an object.
But I think the more common

So, I finally found the min layer time setting in Slic3r under cooling, which I guess is where it belongs, but since I don't have a part fan (mostly ABS printing these days) didn't see it before.
Anyway, the question is that the option here seems to be to slow down the extrusion if the layer will take less than the specified time. But wouldn't we *not* want to slow down in order to not overheat

Oh, and the other seemingly misleading (unless I still don't understand it) part is the tooltip also suggests a setting of 95% to have finer lines e.g. on top solid infill.
I just don't think that will ever work. I actually set 95% and then jacked up esteps/mm for a while trying to get something useful but ...

I ran into this problem as well. If you look at the tooltip for the advanced extrusion width, you'll see that it says "computed over the layer thickness" or something to that effect.
So if you have 0.2mm layer thickness and set the advanced extrusion width to 100% you're going to get 0.2mm width lines, which typically cannot work and will look like super thin lines or just melty mess.
I don't h

For some reason I cannot get OD to connect to my OP... I am running 1.1.1 version of OP on Raspberry Pi 2.
One thing that is confusing is the port. Typically I would add the port to the IP, not in a separate config box. However, I tried either way and neither works.
I am on a home wifi network and the RPi is hardwired to gigabit ethernet.
I also find that I can no longer (after upgrade to RPi2

This just doesn't seem to work for me. I cannot get a thinwall calibration object to make a 1mm wall without a fill. I'm using Cura and RepHost. I set shells to .8 or 1.0 either way, I only ever get two shells and a rapid fill in between, by the way the wall thickness also isn't correct. Can't figure out why it's doing this.
When I use Slic3r and RH and set extrusion width directly to 0.5 I get

Interesting, so B: is part of the M105 output which is typically filtered. I can try to turn off the filtering and see if it helps, but of course best to make the filtering more precise.
One thing I don't get is that having B in the output ( in this case it's reporting results from a probe head calibration) actually causes multiple lines before and after the B to be missing, not just the specifi

Hello, the other day I tracked down what I think is a bug in Repetier Host handling of SERIAL print comands like SERIAL_ECHO etc which causes multiple lines of output to be lost whenever the string to be printed contains the letter "B" as in capital, not lower case B. What a nightmare to find this! Can anyone else reproduce this?

So, how do you like that Nema14 motor with the 5:1 gearbox? Where did you get it for $35?

Yes but the poster seemed to indicate he wasnt using reprap electronics but a homebrew circuit. I was thinking perhaps some accommodation could be made for microstepping to smooth it out.

Interesting. So is it fine to just tie it in with the power leads? Seems strange that the psu would deliver current with those connections open then. I suppose if a pot were placed in that sensing circuit the voltage output might be adjustable within reasonable bounds.

Do they have jumpers for microstepping?

I'm using an XBOX 360 power supply, the variant with 302 watts and it works well with the current hookup. However, there are 2 unused wires which I don't know the purpose. Anyone knows?
So there are a total of 10 wires:
3 Black - Ground
3 Yellow - +12v
2 Red/Blue - +5/Enable
1 Yellow, 1 Black very fine thickness wires, purpose unknown.
When enabled, there is again +12V between these two but I'

I wanted to report that I got the Kossel parts printed in Orange County, at a new shop actually just 5 minutes from my inlaws place, where we were staying for the holidays! I worked with Lars and Kevin at Matterhackers, and can recommend them as providing a nice printed product and also for being nice to chat with about 3D printing etc. Find them here:

Hello all,
I would like to get a set of Kossel parts printed and would love to find someone local so I could come and take a look, pay cash etc.
If you're in the neighborhood and would be willing, the parts list is up on github and I can detail which and how manu of each.
I'm in Orange County (CA) for the holidays, if you're there instead, that could also work, but would love to get 'em done b
