Everyone keeps saying CURA is better than Slic3r so I downloaded it and tried to print out a .4mm wall cube to test it out and man was I shocked when it came out worse than Slic3r. Two things I love are the insane fast slice times and the ability to view the model and paths without posting the Gcode. One thing I REALLY didnt like (other than the failed part) was the program start. Slic3r normallyby Floyd - Printing
How did you insulate the block? I did see a little ABS coming from the heater area so I cleaned it and tightened it back down, Do you think thats all it was? I havent had time to print another calibration print yet.by Floyd - Printing
As stated im printing with ABSby Floyd - Printing
Printed this out from Thingiverse for a little testing on the printer. Its a Makerfarm 8" i3 with a .4 Magma head printing ABS at .3 layer height. Im also using Slic3r and Pronterface to create and send the Gcode. Im ok with the box but the small stuff and the cylinders have some issues. It also looks like it blobs when it starts a new line of filament. Its great once it gets going but startingby Floyd - Printing
Just sand it a tiny bit. but keep in mind that you dont want this moving during printing. My Magma hot end was tight too but it went it with a little lovin.by Floyd - General
Quotedave3dABS juice works well if it is used on top of Kapton tape, but this is hassle. Elmers glue is easy and cheap to use if I can get it to work. I am going to try Floyd's method but my printer is in bits again while I do yet another mod. Let me know how it works out. I was just printing some stuff 2 days ago and it was a 3" cube box and it didnt lift at all. Using Makerfarm ABS with bed atby Floyd - Reprappers
Ive applied cold and hot and hot works better in my case. I wait till about 30% into the heatup cycle then rub some glue on. Maybe its coincidence but ive also noticed it holds better if I apply with a circular motion instead of a grid motion.by Floyd - Reprappers
I use the purple glue stick for ABS at 110c with no issues. Ive only had one print lift off ever. I also dont wipe and reapply every print, I just add more glue to the plate. I can normally get about 4 prints before I have to switch to my other sheet of glass and clean the other. I REALLY dont want to use ABS juice because of the chemicals and the smell.by Floyd - Reprappers
I have the same printer and hot end and I run 110c Bed and 225c for the tip and it works ok, im thinking of trying 230-235 for the tip. What layer height are you trying with those? Try getting good prints at .4mm and then dial it back from there. Im trying to get .2mm on my setupby Floyd - General
Try the purple glue stick with the glass at 110c. I apply my glue when I start a print when the bed starts heating up and it sticks great! I got a 2 pack of glue at walmart for 97 cents!by Floyd - Reprappers
Im using a Magma hot end with my 8" i3 from Colin with ABS and it prints GREAT. Its my first printer and I couldnt be happier.by Floyd - Reprappers
QuoteRP Iron Man Yeah, me too. Elmer's glue works so well! The parts also pop off the bed by themselves once it cools Its actually scared my wife a few times when you get a loud "snap" when you have a part with a large base break loose during cooling. I dont know why people bother with ABS slurry and wiping that junk on there with tape and all. glue stick has not let me down so far with ABS.by Floyd - Reprappers
I might speeding it up a bit but for now its producing great prints at .2mm height. I just have to make sure my lift feature is on to help keep it from snagging on the part when it traverses. I might have to try bumping the hot end temp to go faster, im still at the default 225. Although I am on the Magma hot end so going hotting isnt an issue.by Floyd - Printing
I just use a clean glass bed heated to 110c and right before the print I put a thin layer of the purple elmers glue stick down and it holds great! Clean up is just warm water and wipe it off, no scrubbing or anything. Normally I can get 5-8 prints before I build up enough glue to need cleaning.by Floyd - Reprappers
How fast are you guys going? Im at 30mm and it seems like im going too fast and its not laying nice clean beads. Just setting up and tweaking my Makerfarm 8" and looking for some baselines.by Floyd - Printing
Ill try a piece of felt first and go from there. Its just ear piercing to me everytime I press it.by Floyd - RAMPS Electronics
Is there a way to turn off the chirp for everytime I press the button? I dont know about you guys but I find it really loud and annoying when pecking through the settings.by Floyd - RAMPS Electronics
Thanks guys! I was just unsure if using these free steppers would be a blessing and money saver or a big headache and a show stopper. I think im just going to get some NEMA 17 motors like everyone else in the reprap community and go from there.by Floyd - RAMPS Electronics
I just need clarification before I get in too deep with what I have going on. I was given quite a few NEMA 23 motors. They are 1.8* steps, 12V and either .42A or .68A. These motors also have 6 wires coming from them. Could I make a 3D printer using these steppers with the RAMPS 1.4 board with Pololu A4988 drivers? They state that they can do 2A per coil. Is it even worth the headache using theby Floyd - RAMPS Electronics
